ibbosuk Posted 26 October 2010 Posted 26 October 2010 I think the team and manager that we had at the time were more than capable of establishing themselves in the Premiership which I believe would have lead to us establishing ourselves in that league. Blackburn actually won the Premiership before their demise so possibly not the best example for you to use. Of course it's impossible to say whether or not we would have had 18 years of sustained Premiership football so I do recognise your point, although my thoughts and memories of the time were of a team that played good football with good technical and pacey players, a great manager and a great work ethic. I genuinly think that that particular team and unit would have had many years of success. Good times????....Gary Coatsworth.......
Manwell Pablo Posted 26 October 2010 Posted 26 October 2010 Changing one result would not have changed what followed - agreed, but part of football is looking at "turning points" in a game or in a season, and the Wycombe game clearly was a turning point in that particuar season. For that reason alone, it is likely that people will single it out as a result they would "change". Please also note that this game was not my choice (read earlier post) Don't understand the point you're trying to make with the 50p thing but it could just be me. Nah much as I hate to I have to agree with CockJockey, There is no way one result can be blamed for the years of crap we have had to endure since Taylor was always going to fuk up eventully, changing that result would of changed nothing in the long run turning point or no turning point. Just read your post again and realised you haven't really said the above but there we go Really has to be the FA cup final if you were alive then and even not it would be a good thing to have from a historical pov.
smallpauldj Posted 26 October 2010 Posted 26 October 2010 altho it wouldnt matter much in the grand scheme of things but forest away last year when you consider the season we had is the one id change, i felt sick as the goals kept coming and coming at the wrong end for us. i think the blackburn at wembley is a good shout to, done by a dodgy pen as per usual and who knows had we reached the prem
samjohnson Posted 26 October 2010 Posted 26 October 2010 Along with many other people: Wycombe... I would also change the result of the Chelsea FA Cup game of a few seasons back. We played amazingly well that night and deserved the win... Damn that FA Cup
Spiritwalker Posted 26 October 2010 Posted 26 October 2010 Aside from the obvious changing a result to avoid us being relegated, I'll tackle this from the point of view of the defeat that hurt the most; the one which bothered me for weeks and months afterwards, and without a doubt that was the FA Cup 5th Round Replay in 1997 at Stamford Bridge. A wonderful performance from the Foxes that night, only to be undone with that last minute extra time penalty awarded when Erland Johnson was "fouled" in the box. Franck "Letterboxhead" Lebouef stepped up and scored. Never been so gutted after a game. This was the closest I have ever came to putting my boot through my own telly, Johnson went down even though the closest player to him was about 5 yards away. Having said that, it would be the Wycombe game for me. I think it took us about 5 seasons to recover from it.
dpjfox Posted 26 October 2010 Posted 26 October 2010 wembley 69 most gutted was first play off final v blackburn ...close between them 2 the one im looking forward to is old trafford last game of the season when we beat them 0-2 to win prem league (with a young team containing 6 english internationals)....... ive just woke up!
bettso Posted 26 October 2010 Posted 26 October 2010 Good times????....Gary Coatsworth....... Coatsworth was not in the 92 team and certainly would not have featured had we been promoted.
Yokofoxes Posted 26 October 2010 Posted 26 October 2010 Holding onto the 1-0 lead at Highbury against the team now known as "almost Invincbles."
teblin Posted 26 October 2010 Posted 26 October 2010 Coatsworth was not in the 92 team and certainly would not have featured had we been promoted. He was at the club but was injured i believe
Simmo86 Posted 26 October 2010 Posted 26 October 2010 Wycombe for me, must of sat in pen 1 for about 20 mins after the game in a complete state of shock! I just couldnt believe we'd lost, it didnt even cross my mind before the game that we wouldnt win. About 2 mins before Essandoh scored we were arranging going to Adams Park for the replay!! I still can't watch it now, i was sure we were gonna win the cup that year and end up in the Champions League! How wrong was I
Corky Posted 26 October 2010 Posted 26 October 2010 I think the Wednesday match before the Stoke game was worse, all that optimism, full ground and we threw it away. I never saw the Wycombe defeat coming, we were excellent at home up to that point and a professional performance would've seen us through.
accessory Posted 26 October 2010 Posted 26 October 2010 The Man Utd game at the end of the 1968-69 season. A win there would have kept us up (at Cov's expense) and made up for losing the FA Cup final a few weeks before.
Pegosteve Posted 26 October 2010 Posted 26 October 2010 the FA cup mid week trip to Harlow was a bitter night to remember I was there, highly embarrassing but would have to agree we never recovered from the Wycombe defeat. Also the Wolves and Middlesbrough games also cost us Premiership status.
Narborough_fox Posted 26 October 2010 Posted 26 October 2010 Cardiff away in the play-offs. 3-1 instead of 3-2
crisp monster Posted 26 October 2010 Posted 26 October 2010 Just for the superb comeback it would be the swindon play off final I went to the England v Scotland game in euro 96 with a load of friends and we got talking to some stewards who had done plenty of cup finals and internationals in previous years. One of my mates asked them what the best and loudest goal celebration was that they had witnessed. They didn't know I was a city fan and when they said leicester 3rd in that final I felt very proud. My mates were gutted as I jumped up and shouted 'av sum of that you plastic Manc + scouce bastards'
