Trav Le Bleu Posted 27 October 2010 Posted 27 October 2010 And we don't have any. Not much at least. And who can blame our players after our dreadful start, two changes of manager, numerous squad changes and uncertainty about our owners. It was evident last night and has been for much of the season. We played great up until the first goal and then lost belief until Sven was able to have a word at half-time. Then we came out playing well again, got the goal, looked like we could have gone on to win... until the Angel/Demon that looks over Tchoyi and provides him with simple tap ins struck again. From that point on we were on the ropes, though the 4-1 score line seems a little harsh and that's the cruelest twist that in parts a decent performance where we stood toe-to-toe slugging it out with a form team one league higher than us, but to be on the end of such a score. Confidence was bruised again. Forget the big name signings - at best they won't be here for another 2 months and that's 12 games including the New Year's Day match. What Sven has to do is instill confidence into a team which last season manged to reach the play-offs and which has also brought in some decent players without losing any real assets (DJ didn't want to play for us, which made him no use to us.) Can Sven do that? I think he can (I certainly hope so!) because he always has an air of calm self-assuredness himself. Let's hope he can rub off on the players (there, I've primed this thread for innuendo ) and we can get a few wins under the belt, even with poor performances, so that we can stop worrying about confidence - something we didn't have to worry about last season. Until that happens, all we can do is get behind our team in whatever way we can. COME ON CITEH!
Trav Le Bleu Posted 28 October 2010 Author Posted 28 October 2010 A totally ignored thread making a significant point (I felt) and yet people are still posting in the Becks to Leicester thread. Can a mod please delete this thread as it's just embarressing (more so than my usual threads )
Zingari Posted 28 October 2010 Posted 28 October 2010 sorry i didn't see it before , but read it now and it's a good post much better than that becks shite Trav for mod , then you could delete your own stuff if you wanted EDIT; it hasn't got the potential comedy value of the 5TAYLOR car reg thread though

No, my thread dropped off the first page in a manner of minutes following the 5 Taylor and player NOT from Birmingham thread and other rampant speculation important stuff. If I ever meet you at a match, remind me to buy you a drink!
lcfc_jme Posted 28 October 2010 Posted 28 October 2010 Dr Singh knew confidence is the key ages ago. Didn't see him making a thread about it. Seriously though, it's a fair point. I'm sure Sven will sort it out, he managed to make England hard to beat and if he can do it with that rabble, he's more than capable of grinding results out with our lot.
davieG Posted 28 October 2010 Posted 28 October 2010 I missed it as well and didn't post in either of those other 2 topics. Agree about the lack of confidence and the cause but I'm not that hopeful that whilst this awful loan window remains open that confidence will return.
lcfc_jme Posted 28 October 2010 Posted 28 October 2010 Singh is my role-model I see you're a man of impeccable taste. Unfortunately in this business, you only gain confidence by not losing. Until our sloppy mistakes and wasteful shooting are corrected, we're going to remain - as we were when we went down (great alliteration, there, if I do say so myself) - low on confidence. Sven should now be getting an idea of the squad he has inherited - he's had long enough to look at it - so things should begin changing now. It's time for him to earn his salary. A win at home this weekend against fellow strugglers would be a perfect start.

Edmund Posted 28 October 2010 Posted 28 October 2010 Thanks for pointing out the obvious. What's next? Goals win matches? Seriously though you're spot on Trav but I'd argue that we still have confidence in the camp at present. My main worry's the players from Sousa's reign hanging around not getting a game having only just signed with us and what effect that will have on the team. Sven will have to get rid of some players if he plans on bringing some in or it just wont work. On the positive side it looks as if he's well underway with that, as only today, O'neill and Kennedy have both been linked with moves away.
James. Posted 28 October 2010 Posted 28 October 2010 Replace Sousa with Mad Dog and Sven with Ginger Pubes and it's like our relegation season all over again. Loads of shit new players and chaos on and off the pitch. Should be a cracking season.
Webbo Posted 28 October 2010 Posted 28 October 2010 I've noticed that the forum has been a lot more entertaining than usual this last week or 2. Why is it that the worse season we have the better this place gets?

cc_star Posted 28 October 2010 Posted 28 October 2010 Confidence is key You don't get confidence by signing a player every week, and making wholesale changes every game. Mental strength will get you out of a hole the next time the opposition score with their first shot of the game after we've missed 10 sitters, I've never seen a team do well who has played 3 keepers already this season, never has the same defence twice, changes formation every single game, signs players when there is more than enough talent in the squad to be higher up the league. The only thing that's stopping us kicking on is all the changes, fair enough we needed a right back, centre half & a goal poacher but now we've got them we need to mesh, the team needs to play together more without constant worry that a loan signing will be replacing them the following week. We've got a squad that is easily good enough to be in the top half of the table, if we get there, then a signing or two in January (NOT TEN) will bolster a promotion push, but the way its going I can see us being back in the bottom 3
rams r4 sh*ggin Posted 28 October 2010 Posted 28 October 2010 spot on! since the start the players just seem to forget how last season on what they acheived personally not just collectively as a team. personally i think a settled team will result in us moving forward gaining the confidence back. they seem to spend every game worring more if they are starting the next match instead of concentrating on the game thats being played.
MC Prussian Posted 28 October 2010 Posted 28 October 2010 I wouldn't solely put it down to confidence. In the past thirteen games, the squad has shown it CAN play pretty football IF it can be arsed. In the end, it all boils down to consistency, but that is down to another new manager having to settle for his starting eleven. So far, none of the players has been able to demonstrate a steady form or a rise thereof. The shuffling of names and positions, the lack of fitness, as well as the injuries and suspensions have not worked in favour of the team. Basically, we're back where we were after pre-season. The mechanics will start working at one point, it's all a question of when that will be.
AmyLGK Posted 28 October 2010 Posted 28 October 2010 This must have been an invisible post cause I only just saw it too! Confidence is one quality that is required - but the lads also need desire and perseverance. It's not just a lack of confidence that makes them crumble when a goal down. I had faith last season that going in 1-0 down at half time meant bugger all cause I knew that Pearson would get the lads all worked up and they'd come out fighting and we'd get a result. I firmly believe Sven can do that too, to a certain extent - but the guys have to want to play their socks off as well. COME ON CITY!
