Ozwin Posted 3 November 2010 Posted 3 November 2010 Well, if you can call it graffiti. http://blublu.org/sito/walls/2007/big/049.jpg Absolutely awesome.
StanSP Posted 3 November 2010 Posted 3 November 2010 Love the Jack Nicholson from The Shining artwork. Banksy's website is heaven if you love this kind of stuff.
Samilktray Posted 3 November 2010 Posted 3 November 2010 Not Graffiti so much but this some of my cousins work, hes been commissioned to spray/sketch in some bars up and down the country, including some bar in Loughborough.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 3 November 2010 Posted 3 November 2010 Banksy really isn't anything special.
Houdini Logic Posted 4 November 2010 Posted 4 November 2010 Banksy really isn't anything special. You're so wrong. Apart from wit and incredible technique, he so often hits the nail on the head
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 4 November 2010 Posted 4 November 2010 You're so wrong. Apart from wit and incredible technique, he so often hits the nail on the head No I'm not. AT ALL. I don't dislike Banksy but the constant rimming of him does my nut in. If you think his technique is 'incredible' then clearly you've never seen alot of graffiti art. The majority of his works are stencils, and they're all repetetive ones at that. He's pioneered the technique, and his style is recogniseable, yes, but to call him incredible is ludicrous. There's hundreds of immensely talented graffiti / street artists from across the globe who send out powerful messages without having to be peurile or crude, which Banky's stuff so often is. As I've said, I don't dislike him, but there's so many more talents that don't get an ounce of recognition he does. Each to their own and all that, mind.
James. Posted 4 November 2010 Posted 4 November 2010 I quite like Banksy but ironically he's become one of the things that he often mocks - a very powerful and lucrative brand.
BoneDog Posted 4 November 2010 Posted 4 November 2010 I think my new sig proves who is the immensest at graffiti in England.

The main reason people write off Banksy is because a lot of people admire his work. The constant rimming is irritating and a part of me wishes I didn't rate him - but I look at his stuff and I just can't help it. It's unfortunate that you don't appreciate the technique in making and spraying several stencils, which in itself is a small part of the final product. I agree that there is a lot of undiscovered talent, but for me that's not a reason to hold anything against an Banksy. I don't dislike the strokes because my local indie band are pretty good. Banksy's work is very much crude and peurile - too often people take themselves too seriously when discussing/protesting against/commenting on issues and I think it's refreshing to have someone who can make a valid point without preaching or trying to make a stand. Personally I think it's these aspects which make him appealing to so many. A perfect example is his work in palestine...

Maybe post examples of their work? If there's hundreds of examples....contribute to the thread.
Houdini Logic Posted 4 November 2010 Posted 4 November 2010 Banksy is a sell out. I think you need to learn the difference between 'sell out' and 'selling'
Samilktray Posted 4 November 2010 Posted 4 November 2010 I think you need to learn the difference between 'sell out' and 'selling' I dont think I do.

I write him off because I don't think his work is all that amazing. I can appreciate the technique, I think visually it is unique, however stencilling in itself is not too taxing, ergo I don't consider it 'incredible.' I hold nothing against him because of his success, I never actually said I did. I like alot of pretty well known graffiti / street artists, I just seem to prefer their work to the majority of the stuff Banksy produces. Maybe post examples of their work? If there's hundreds of examples....contribute to the thread. Swoon, Retna, JR..... Now stop whining.
BoneDog Posted 8 November 2010 Posted 8 November 2010 I've always been a big fan of graf and threw up the odd piece myself around '93 - '95 time. I could do some pretty fine letters but could never master faces. Oh, I thought I was shit hot! I used to buy train tickets when I was a kid just to go to cities to look for graf to admire. Was a big fan of VOP, Solo One, Mear, Risk, Seen, Cope, Pulse and many more I can't remember right now. There was a piece I've been looking for since this thread started by Saez (I think, maybe Saek, from Germany probably) around '93 but I can't find it anywhere online. I think there's a new lad called Saek but it wasn't him cos he's only 23. Lovely stuff Nice flame work from Totem

There's some old school beauties in there, I remember seeing some Caper when I was young. Was there a crew called RTB back in the late 80's early 90's around Leicester? I've been looking but can't find oat and am sure I remember that name. Think it was Rock The Bass Crew.
MPH Posted 8 November 2010 Posted 8 November 2010 first store for graffiti artists has opened up in leicester this year... first one ever....
