Jimothy Posted 30 January 2011 Posted 30 January 2011 Obinna's second against Forest. Probably didn't mean it, but it looked good.
Dickie Greenleaf Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 Thought it was disgusting from Fabregas; running up to the referee and insisting he should send the man off. Let the ref do his job, think there should be a rule made that players should get cautioned for doing that. Why? He's got every right, as captain, to point out that if Squillaci gets a red card (rightly so) 30 yards out for denying a goal scoring opportunity then for someone in the penalty area, there should be no hesitation. Although it was a soft penno, once the ref has made that decision, it HAS to be a red as well.
Fosse Boy Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Good old TV strikes again. Another dagger in the dying heart of the world's greatest football competition... THE 2013 FA Cup Final will kick off at 5.30pm as part of the biggest overhaul in the competition’s 140-year history. The FA’s top brass are set to bow to pressure from television chiefs and beam the Wembley showpiece to a global audience at teatime. The FA will finally cave in to rights-holding broadcasters who have long advocated a 5.30pm kick-off as the prime-time for a maximum audience. Until now, bosses have resisted attempts to move the competition in line with Premier League teatime kick-offs on the basis of tradition. But senior officials recognise the need for change to achieve maximum exposure and keep broadcasters and sponsors happy. The move will be a major blow to traditionalists who view the famous competition as the last bastion of the game’s heritage in England. But FA chiefs believe that they must implement a radical revamp, with the competition’s future threatened by falling TV audiences and dwindling interest from fans and sponsors. Switching the kick-off from 3pm is the main plank of a series of changes the FA hope will improve the Cup’s profile and secure its future. A think-tank has said a fresh look is needed to boost attendances, attract a younger audience and raise the tournament’s profile. Plans include seeding big clubs so they are not drawn against each other early on. The review comes against the backdrop of a desperate search for a new sponsor. E.ON agreed an £8million extension for this season, having earlier called time on their four-year deal, but are not expected to renew again, An FA source said last night: “We’ve been concerned for some time at falling attendances and waning interest in the FA Cup, and the need to make the changes necessary to ensure the competition retains its unique position. “Hopefully, the ideas we have will ensure the FA Cup has a strong profile and appeals to a wide fan base.” http://www.people.co.uk/sport/football/news/2011/02/13/exclusive-fa-cup-final-switches-to-5-30pm-start-in-2013-102039-22919261/
Edmund Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Good old TV strikes again. Another dagger in the dying heart of the world's greatest football competition... I'd be surprised if they changed all fixtures in the Prem and below to 5:30PM kick offs as it means more drinking time equalling more pissed fans.
davieG Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Plans include seeding big clubs so they are not drawn against each other early on. And wipe away part of the magic and appeal of the competition and make it even easier for the bigger clubs to benefit financially and harder for the smaller clubs - yes a great idea if all you care about is the Premier League. The FA representing all levels of football - my arse! FA - Show some balls and stand up to the media and the PL for the good of all levels of football.

Seeding would also make it more likely that a small club would draw a big club, hence more revenue. Not saying it's right or wrong but there is nothing wrong with exploring new ideas.
Edmund Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 Seeding would also make it more likely that a small club would draw a big club, hence more revenue. Not saying it's right or wrong but there is nothing wrong with exploring new ideas. But that's the whole point, it's a vicious circle. Small clubs shouldn't be celebrating a draw on revenue but on how far they can make it in the cup. Yes the small clubs want to test themselves against the big guns but I'm sure the owners couldn't give a toss if they make it through the next stage or not as they'll be busy counting their money. The fact that clubs now would rather draw a big club for revenue than a enjoyable cup experience is all part of the knock on effect from big money in the prem.
CosbehFox Posted 13 February 2011 Posted 13 February 2011 It's highly likely the FA Cup Final this year will have a kick-off other than 3pm. It clashes with a full league programme remember. Probably be something like 2pm and 4pm as I can not see them clashing.
Corky Posted 14 February 2011 Posted 14 February 2011 Seeding shouldn't be brought in. One of the beauties of the cup is that anyone can draw anyone, no favouritism towards certain clubs.

CosbehFox Posted 15 February 2011 Posted 15 February 2011 Read a Man U fans comments about this and he suggested decent ways of making fans enjoy it again. Follow NFL's blackout of matches if ticket sales are poor. Ticket prices must be at a set piece agreed before the competition commences. All games at Saturday, 3pm (where at all possible). Clubs can only be shown a maximum one time on TV before the Q/F stage.

Anyway, I'm all for the 3pm games on Saturdays. What's an NFL blackout if tickets sales are poor? To be honest though, I can't see the TV or 3pm things working because these days, it's all about sponsorship money and advertising - the more games that are on TV, there is more exposure. And if it's a bigger team playing, they're bound to attract more viewers. Sadly it's the way the majority of football itself has gone. The only thing I can think of to stop it getting worse, if possible, is just to boycott everything and not watch FA Cup football on TV when it's shown. But I'm not 100% sure that will work anyway

Ford Super Sunday Posted 15 February 2011 Posted 15 February 2011 The last Manchester United FA Cup game NOT live on British TV was their third-round draw against Exeter in January 2005. The replay was shown live, and since then, all 30 of their games have been live on BBC, ITV, Setanta, Sky or ESPN. That is what you call over exposure.
Fosse Boy Posted 15 February 2011 Posted 15 February 2011 I'm fairly certain the original Exeter game was live on BBC?
Ford Super Sunday Posted 15 February 2011 Posted 15 February 2011 I'm fairly certain the original Exeter game was live on BBC? Nein, the replay was live on the BBC, at St. James' Park, but the original 0-0 at Old Trafford wasn't live, it was Man Utd's last (non final) 3pm Kick-off in the FA Cup. That weekend Yeading played Newcastle on the BBC, with a certain DJ Campbell in the team
Dickie Greenleaf Posted 15 February 2011 Posted 15 February 2011 What's an NFL blackout if tickets sales are poor? If they dont sell x amount of tickets, the game cant be broadcast on tv
Ford Super Sunday Posted 15 February 2011 Posted 15 February 2011 If they dont sell x amount of tickets, the game cant be broadcast on tv Technically it can, it just cannot be broadcast on the affiliate station of the area the game is being played in. If you have NFL Gamepass, which gives you access to any non-national game, then you can watch it. Obviously that wouldn't happen with the FA Cup though. To be fair, the problem with that theory is that most games broadcast live on TV are already 'big' games, and sell very well, if not entierly. Look at the live games this season. With the exception of our Man City replay, and from memory Notts County-Man City, where there were a few empty seats, most of the games will be a near sellout anyway. It's the ridiculous ticket prices for non TV games that need looking at, not necessarily the live TV coverage.

StanSP Posted 16 February 2011 Posted 16 February 2011 Please note, this is (surprisingly!) not Coventry's stadium. It's Wigan's. But both would be the same on matchday anyway. This was from tonight vs Bolton. Absolutely disgraceful!
Wymsey Posted 16 February 2011 Posted 16 February 2011 Absolutely disgraceful! More disgusting as their both local rivals to one another.
StanSP Posted 18 February 2011 Posted 18 February 2011 Anyone clear this up - Ancelotti has said Luiz will start against Everton for the replay. But isn't the rule that if you weren't registered for the first match of the tie (played on 29th), then you can't play in the replay. Luiz signed on deadline day so surely he shouldn't be allowed to play in the replay?
