wurmer Posted 7 January 2011 Posted 7 January 2011 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/9297416.stm Corrupt as fvck.
James. Posted 7 January 2011 Posted 7 January 2011 It may well be corrupt but wouldn't this potentially suit England. Forget the disruption to the Premier League and all that nonsense, that can all be worked around (extend the season into May/June and have a "winter break"). In January we'll have players that aren't at the end of a tiring season, have a few games under their belts to have found form and will benefit from more suitable weather conditions.
CosbehFox Posted 7 January 2011 Posted 7 January 2011 It was pretty much nailed on as soon as it was speculated in my opinion. Personally given the time between now and 2022, I don't have a problem. Even more interesting is this story. http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5ieIuRF2GAD2O7-LZmk1hAcOl11aA?docId=CNG.7c8b71a79981f2ba4d077db3c714243a.1b1 The Korean candidate voted England at the election stage and had previously challenged Blatter for presidency. So they have another yes man in and booted the fella who dared challenge. No-one was replaced at the top level of AFC bar for retirement with the Qatari electee remain head of AFC 2015. The definition of 'old boys' act, FIFA.

purpleronnie Posted 7 January 2011 Posted 7 January 2011 I guess I'm the only one who couldn't give a shit when its held.
Guest Bilo Posted 7 January 2011 Posted 7 January 2011 Football becomes a laughing stock. I genuinely believe the only way that football could change is if a breakaway football federation formed as a rival to FIFA, missing out on the revenue of even a handful of major nations would bring the organisation to its knees. The idea of Qatar hosting it ahead of a genuinely emerging football nation such as Australia, which has massive experience in hosting major sporting events, was a joke in itself but a winter World Cup? The final nail in the coffin for world football's integrity.
Webbo Posted 7 January 2011 Posted 7 January 2011 Is this really so terrible? For a start it's 11 years away, it'll mean instead of standing in the cold in January we'll be watching world class football on the telly at the most miserable time of the year. Teams like ours without many internationals will get a winter break. We'll be watching our team in the sunshine in June.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 7 January 2011 Posted 7 January 2011 I thought they were building air-conditioned stadia? What? They can't? Give to a nation that doesn't make grand promises they can't keep then!

The final nail in the coffin for world football's integrity. Last year's WC was a winter world cup and the same would be the case if Australia hosts one in June/July As for Qatar getting the nod, look no further back than 2002 when the footballing giants from South Korea and Japan (who had never even qualified for a WC prior to getting selected) were chosen to host the World Cup...

Japan was developing at the time, they won the 1992 Asian Cup and achieved a goal of 60,000 for the final. A feat Australia haven't achieved discounting their time in Oceania and something Qatar can only dream of.

We'll be in the Champions League/Europa League/Midland Alliance by then I'll have ya know.

OK, maybe rephrase it. It's a World Cup that'll take place right in the midst of every major league in the world's season, European football will be blown well out of kilter by the re-arrangements. Australia by contrast could host a World Cup in comfortable rather than some of the freezing temperatures seen in South Africa, as well as Australia being a nation that has a growing national league and an increasingly strong national side that now qualifies regularly for the World Cup. Exactly the kind of emerging nation that should be hosting the World Cup. All this, and not disrupting anybody's season whatsoever.
pazzini Posted 7 January 2011 Posted 7 January 2011 i dont care for england or the world cup , there is no way you can have it in january
Fosse Boy Posted 7 January 2011 Posted 7 January 2011 Why are people still shocked by any action FIFA/Blatter/footballing authorities in general take? Sepp could stage a military coup of a small African nation and I wouldn't bat an eyelid.
AmericanScott Posted 9 January 2011 Posted 9 January 2011 I love World Cup summers more than anything. But to be honest, i wouldn't have a problem with it being in January.
acooling08 Posted 9 January 2011 Posted 9 January 2011 So what will happen here? Football called off over winter? And yes, Sepp Blatter is a cvnt, what's new?
CosbehFox Posted 10 January 2011 Posted 10 January 2011 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/9355306.stm Murky Says a lot that FIFA feel the need to discredit the bloke in their press release.
