OzFox Posted 10 January 2011 Posted 10 January 2011 I remember a tie, I think it was Arsenal and Sheff Weds in a quarter final, went to a fourth or fifth replay, which they ended up playing at Filbert Street. Remember that. Think it was three games at Filbert street. Our pitch became a mudbath. Wednesday were huge underdogs as well. Great entertainment
cc_star Posted 10 January 2011 Author Posted 10 January 2011 Maybe it's time you grew up cc-star? You Just seem a bit pathetic to me. Funny, you seem all pathetic to me, so the feeling's mutual
cc_star Posted 10 January 2011 Author Posted 10 January 2011 The whole point for most small clubs is that they get the chance of earning big bucks from the away matches against the giants. cc can't have a moan about Sven after that performance so he's found something else. I've never moaned about Sven other than when I said that I felt he was slow to change things when we looked like we replicating our early season defensive form around Christmas & just before - but the way everyone goes on about it you'd have thought I'd have killed Jesus, then come your house and shat on your sofa aren't people allowed to have their own thoughts?
cc_star Posted 10 January 2011 Author Posted 10 January 2011 On a loser here CC. Replays add value as Nick said and also, as Houdini said, would you wanted to go out on penalties? Muzzy1981 also stated a good point in that the reverse of what's going to happen in the City match can happen and a plucky underdog can hold out away from home to bring a giant to the home ground! Fantastic! You probably don't remember the days when there were NO penalty shoot-outs in the FA cup. I remember a tie, I think it was Arsenal and Sheff Weds in a quarter final, went to a fourth or fifth replay, which they ended up playing at Filbert Street. If anything the FA Cup has been devalued by "lets-get-the-tie-done-quick-as-possible" penalty shootouts after the 1st replay the sweep everything under the carpet. The FA Cup is a shambles at tge moment, especially with them planning to play Premier League fixtures on the same day as the final. Good point I'll happily concede to popular opinion, I just felt replays were often 'flat' affairs that lack the passion of initial ties Obviously there is the chance for heroics. But for some (unexplainable) reason I just often felt there was something missing in them... Obviously I'm probably wrong, and of course greatly look forward to this replay. Perhaps I'm just ultra-focused on the league
Finnegan Posted 10 January 2011 Posted 10 January 2011 Bit off topic but any of the older lot remember what the fuck happened to get the Burton game postponed whilst we were 6 - 1 up and played behind closed doors?
Webbo Posted 10 January 2011 Posted 10 January 2011 As a non league team playing a premier league side, if you have slogged your guts out for 90 minutes at home in front of your long suffering fans and held them off, would you not prefer the penalty shout out there and then rather than a reply where you will lose the surprise value, home advantage and the premier league side maybe won't rest as many of their bigger players. I would rather beat Man U at home on penalties than have a day out at Old Trafford and get stuffed if I was a non league team/fan. I don't like the continental 2 leg cup system because upsets almost never happen, but if we are going to persist with 2 cup competitions I think we should scrap replays. IIrc Exeter held ManUre to a draw at home the other year and the gate receipts from the replay wiped out their debts.
Captain... Posted 10 January 2011 Posted 10 January 2011 IIrc Exeter held ManUre to a draw at home the other year and the gate receipts from the replay wiped out their debts. Fair point, I was thinking more about the teams drawing at home, and dreaming of a glamour trip to Old Trafford or Anfield. Having said that did Exeter win the replay? Would they have been more likely to win in a shoot out at Old Trafford, and couldn't a home draw in the next round have had the same effect. Having read what people have said, I don't think it devalues the tie as such, but the FA cup has already been devalued by teams and managers not playing their strongest side and not taking the first few rounds seriously, it is a distant third behind the Premiership (winning of, survival in or promotion to) and European competitions. The fixture congestion that replays cause does mean that a large proportion of people see it as an inconvinience rather than a reward. Edit: Now they are even going to play the final on the same day as premiership fixtures, the FA cup has had it's magic eroded over the years, and this is not because of replays. The view that they are an inconvinience is a result of its devaluation.
Guest Bilo Posted 10 January 2011 Posted 10 January 2011 Bit off topic but any of the older lot remember what the fuck happened to get the Burton game postponed whilst we were 6 - 1 up and played behind closed doors? According to Fossils and Foxes, the Burton keeper was twatted around the head with a missile thrown from the stand and was stunned for a short while. The Baseball Ground was full of Derby and Leicester fans knocking lumps out of each other for 90 minutes apparently.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 10 January 2011 Posted 10 January 2011 When that happens do the goals still get entered into the official history book? Was Lineker still credited with his hatrick I mean or is it just tough titties?

Not sure though.

If so then poor Gary! Although I'm sure he had enough other high points in his career that he wont be too bitter about it.
ACF Posted 10 January 2011 Posted 10 January 2011 Do goals scored in a penalty shootout count towards a player's goal tally for the season or career?
Alexikokopops Posted 10 January 2011 Posted 10 January 2011 Do goals scored in a penalty shootout count towards a player's goal tally for the season or career? Yep, along with goals they score in training too

As i remember it, the keeper was brained in the first half when the score was 1-0. He threw up in the goalmouth at one point, and looked a bit dazed as another five goals flew past him Think it was around the time Pat Jennings pulled a dart out of his arm in another game. Those were the days
