davieG Posted 10 January 2011 Posted 10 January 2011 BBC - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/9355809.stm The British Home Championship is set to return to the calendar for the first time since 1984, the BBC understands. The catalyst for its revival comes from Vauxhall, which is set to announce the first of four sponsorship deals with the Home Nations at Wembley on Tuesday. Northern Ireland won the last British Championship before concerns about crowd trouble and fixture congestion saw the competition discontinued. The most likely date for the tournament's comeback is 2013.
Finnegan Posted 10 January 2011 Posted 10 January 2011 This right here, ladies and gentlemen, is exactly why the Welsh and the Scots have a massive chip on their shoulder about English football. Home Nations tournament returns under the mantle The Nations Cup and is scheduled in for this year - does anybody have a clue it's happening? Does it get any publicity? <Tumbleweed> What's that, England fail to get the World Cup so all of a sudden want something special. So now they DO want to join? Oh okay then. Hurray, now it's news! Great.

Great. I'm English and I know of the Nations Cup, you shouldn't judge English football by the FAs standards there's plenty of us that were pissed off by them turning their noses up at the idea but like most running football they're all about money and after all their fook ups they now can't turn their noses up at the proposed sponsorship.
Finnegan Posted 10 January 2011 Posted 10 January 2011 A match against the Welsh, I mean who cares?
Maybes Posted 10 January 2011 Posted 10 January 2011 I suppose we have to get some confidence boosting wins from somewhere.

Great. exactamundo. We'll still be winning it after the bloody english have joined though.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 10 January 2011 Posted 10 January 2011 Will Wales have to qualify for this by playing off against the Isle of Man, Gurnsey and The Channel Islands?
Finnegan Posted 10 January 2011 Posted 10 January 2011 exactamundo. We'll still be winning it after the bloody english have joined though. You're going to get the wooden spoon this year so I doubt it.
Guest Bilo Posted 10 January 2011 Posted 10 January 2011 Hampden Park may literally be the only England away I'd want to do. Personally I'm quite looking forward to seeing them return, give me Home Nations matches in Cardiff and Belfast over a meaningless friendly with Belgium any day of the week.

Good luck on getting tickets unless your in England fans members club, oh and that is the gold/+ one.

Edmund Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Home-nation-Internationals-set-to-return-thanks-to-Vauxhall-sponsorship-deal-article670163.html Home nation internationals set to returnEngland are set to play Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland again regularly with the return of the Home Internationals after more than a quarter of a century. The plans for a revived tournament will be confirmed today at the unveiling of new England sponsor Vauxhall’s three-and-a-half-year deal. It will mean a chance for the Tartan Army to colonise London again and raises the prospect of more games to rival England’s epic 9-3 win over Scotland in 1961, Jim Baxter’s destruction of Alf Ramsey’s world champions in 1967 and the infamous Wembley crossbar-wrecking match a decade later. And while the FA concedes that milking the cash cow of the rivalry between the Auld Enemy is a major factor, the chance to lock horns again with Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland is set to be backed by the vast majority of England fans. The final obstacle to the proposals – which have been supported by Scottish, Welsh and Irish FAs for years – was removed when Wembley chiefs signalled their willingness to listen to the idea.
purpleronnie Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 , be funny to see the scots invading wembley again.
Dickie Greenleaf Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Cool. Just what's needed, more pointless and boring international football
Guest Bilo Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Cool. Just what's needed, more pointless and boring international football Really? You don't think Scotland v England will be an incredible occasion with the atmosphere to match? Even Wales v Scotland or Northern Ireland v England would have something about them. Most of the games would be sell-outs, there'd be far more passion and competitive spirit involved in such matches and it'd be fantastic for the fans. So long as this tournament is played instead of rather than as well as pointless friendlies against nations we're not remotely bothered about, I'm all for it. Who knows, maybe Wembley will be as noisy as it once was for the home games.
Zingari Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 i'd like to see a rugby style 6 nations tournament , but with invites going out to 2 other European teams , just to spice it up a bit
The Doctor Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 i'd like to see a rugby style 6 nations tournament , but with invites going out to 2 other European teams , just to spice it up a bit one more - ROI are taking part in the one this year along with wales, NI and scotland - add those english scumbags and you need just one more.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Great idea, so long as we drop the pointless friendlies against teams like Burkina Faso.
davieG Posted 11 January 2011 Author Posted 11 January 2011 one more - ROI are taking part in the one this year along with wales, NI and scotland - add those english scumbags and you need just one more. Qatar are looking for games I hear.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Qatar are looking for games I hear. Don't, don't, don't! I can see it now, home internationals... played in Qatar... all of them!
lcfc"weasel" Posted 11 January 2011 Posted 11 January 2011 Would love these to return, can imagine Wembley being great if England were playing Scotland there.
