Swalker Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 I am all for Sven making changes he feels that will improve our team as he is the manager. But we already had alot of loan players but 2 have gone back one forced the other not. But I do wonder why that even in the Transfer window Sven is targeting loan deals instead of permanent deals.
Stevosevic Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 We had 1 loan player playing in our last league match.
Leicester_Loyal Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 Loan with the option to buy in the summer. First dibs on players maybe? I'd prefer to loan Yakubu and others like him, why buy him for 5million only to find out hes useless. Loan, then buy. Sven knows what hes doing.
Jimmy Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 maybe because the players he wants won't sign permanently unless we are in the premier league ... OR maybe because the people we are able to buy aren't any better then what we have... btw only loanees at the club are Naughton, Mee and as of tomorrow Yakubu
wurmer Posted 12 January 2011 Posted 12 January 2011 I think we actually need 1 or 2 more PL loan players to get promotion. We won't tempt PL class players here on perm deals unless we are in the PL.

Jimmy Posted 13 January 2011 Posted 13 January 2011 And Vitor. well he's injured as much as Kirkland is but no one seems to say anything
drc Posted 13 January 2011 Posted 13 January 2011 well he's injured as much as Kirkland is but no one seems to say anything It's not easy to get perms in the january window. And even so it could be gambles. I'm not worried about loanplayers this season because next season regardless if we stay in this division or not. Sven will have a long preseason to try to sign new players permanently and build his team.

Greg2607 Posted 13 January 2011 Posted 13 January 2011 I dont disagree with the Loan system at this moment in time if it brings quality into the squad. I would, however, add the caveat, that I think we should have the option to buy the players permanently if we are promoted and they have proved "worthy". I wouldn't want to add massively to our wage bill at this point to then not get promoted and end up saddled with players who 1) we cant afford or 2) may not have proven to be the "bargains" or "coups" that we thought they were. That said............ I'm excited about the team that Sven is building regardless of the tenure of the players that are coming in. We are starting to resemble a squad that has real quality and depth. Not least, I'm sure it is one which could compete in the lower echelons of the Premier League (lets not get ahead of selves with aspirations of Europe in the first season hey!!) But IF we were to secure promotion and be able to purchase Naughton, Yakubu and others, then I, for one, would feel that the squad in it's current form is better by far than that of the last 5 years.
AmyLGK Posted 13 January 2011 Posted 13 January 2011 Yeh I'm not worried about loan players as long as they are with us for the rest of the season, Sven is eyeing up prem players and as has been stated in the press several times now, many prem players are not prepared to drop down a league - so the only hope really of getting prem players is on loan! Then once we're back in the prem we'll get these players permanently! Fair play to Sven for aiming high I say! :scarf:
Jimmy Posted 13 January 2011 Posted 13 January 2011 Has Vitor gone back then???? no I forgot about him, still that's only 4 players
Captain... Posted 13 January 2011 Posted 13 January 2011 I echo what's been said up there, a loan player until the end of the season is very different to a loan player in January who is angling for a move in the January window (Curtis Davies I'm talking about you). Anyone who signs for the rest of the season is making a committment to try and help us get promoted what happens at the end of the season will depend on whether or not we do get promoted. Imagine if we had signed Kirkland or Bednar (probably cost a couple of million each) and we would be stuck with them, at least with a loan we have not committed too much money. I don't want us gambling millions of pounds on players that are not fit, in form and playing well. Vassell was a worth a gamble on a free, Bamba looks a very astute signing for 250K, and nobody would begrudge 2-3 million for Naughton having seen what he can do. I hope Mee has been brought in as cover because we only have 2 fit centre backs at the moment, I don't want to see him starting ahead of Hobbs or Bamba, unless he is very good and we have a chance of signing him. Yakubu is a gamble, at 50-55K a week he is an expensive gamble, but to sign him on a permanent would be much riskier, and if he finds his form and gets us promoted then it's worth it, if not then we have not risked too much. Unless we start throwing silly money around we are not going to attract a premiership striker that is playing week in week out. The rumour of getting Micheal Johnson in on loan is an interesting one, if we do lose Wellens to Brum he would be a good replacement, but there is no way Man City would sell him cheap, and it would be stupid to pay a lot of money for him as we don't know how he will be after his injury.
