easilee Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 Just heard on Talksport that, (not verbatim), ' the talk in football circles is that Leicester are the new Chelsea and while some may laugh they have the wealth to back up Svens needs.' Feels nice not to be slagged off as a team. I really think that we will surprise a lot of people in the coming weeks.

Captain... Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 That 250k we've spent on Bamba is proof of our buying power. Abramhovich will be shaking in his boots.

Yeah I heard that too, I hope we do surprise people but this notion of going on a 12 game run is lovely........ just based on no evidence. Not that I haven't stuck cash on us winning tomorrow........ blind faith rocks, after-all, they've only scored 26 goals this season.
somebum Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 "Just heard on Talksport...." Yeah, I think that speaks for itself.
Asherz Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 svens been cleaver what he has bought in he has sold and averaged out not spending a penny granted we have loanees n a fair wedge per week but come the summer if we dont get promoted sven will have a biggg old wedge as a transfer kitty which will see the team strengthened epically. firstly signing naughton
STUHILL Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Has anyone thought we might not actually be that rich though?? Surely, if the owners were soooo rich, wouldn't they have just bought a Prem club? Lots to choose from and already in Prem for all their marketing plans. I guess the Summer will be the key, especially if we don't go up! Sven will have a rebuild and we will see what kind of money he will have when he signs players on permanent deals.
Asherz Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 buying a team in championship for less getting promotion rewards are greater... meaning more profit buying a more expensive not so good prem team getting relegated.. loosing tv right left right and center parachute payments dont cover all the losses you have to hope you get promoted again and still unfortunately you makea loss. same in the retail sector the store i work in is the same if we dont get the good in that customers want we dont make cash ... if were slow on getting contracts to have exclusive max 90`s footlocker will beat us meaning we dont bring in as much revenue and make losses galore and store closes down... in principle .. better to buy cheaper invest more gain more with promotion than yoyo and make losses
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 i heard we were in with a shout of signing Torres right until the last minute, must have been a close call
Fox1651 Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 I heard we were going to sign Messi but it fell through
themotivator Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 nobody signs messi. he goes where he pleases.
Jakemoore Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 I heard we'd signed Mee, I'm still not sure who he is? Other then some guy who played last week?!?my point is, we need to stop signing un-known players
evs_the_fox Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 I could have sworn that when the Thai's took over they were quoted at being worth somewhere between £125-£200m. If that's the case then, in Premier League terms, its small-fry. Has their wealth been quintupled or something since?
ibbosuk Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 I could have sworn that when the Thai's took over they were quoted at being worth somewhere between £125-£200m. If that's the case then, in Premier League terms, its small-fry. Has their wealth been quintupled or something since? Most of the big players Sven tried for just would not come, thats not the owners fault, Svens fault, or our fault. We will only know the true spending power of our club when we reach the Premiership and our bids are made from the same level playing field. ISWT...:sge:
Toby or not Toby Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 I could have sworn that when the Thai's took over they were quoted at being worth somewhere between £125-£200m. If that's the case then, in Premier League terms, its small-fry. Has their wealth been quintupled or something since? I think theres an Indonesian investor too whos worth about the same?
Filthy Fox Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 i hate chelsea but i will take this as a compliment! i'm just glad that we haven't wasted too much money on loans and we have a top quality squad now however when we get promoted it's gunna be all about spending money if we want to attract some quality players to stay up, unless we keep on finding players like SOL BAMBA!
dave the caveman Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 It would be interesting to know the real economics of it all. Exactly how much money is being in the Prem worth? What's the difference in income between a club who regularly finish 16th and a club who regularly finish 8th. How much more, then, is Europe worth... how much more is the Champions League worth? How much more could we be sold for if we're a Prem regular? I don't think our owners are treating this like a hobby, I think they're in it for profit. So they must have worked out the answers to the questions above and are investing accordingly. If being a Premiership club puts our value up by £25m, it's worth dropping £23m on the tools needed to get us there. The question is, exactly what are they aiming for? Is it just promotion and a quick sale, is it long term Premiership competition, is it Europe? Only they know. But we're not Chelsea. Abramovich is happy to make a loss. Our guys aren't.
