Just having a look at the "Claridge kicks off" blog on BBC Sport and noticed a lot of animosity towards "moneybags" Leicester, suggesting that City are some sort of Man City of the Championship.

Let's have a look at the facts (admittedly with some estimations thrown in):

Since the Thais took over:

Ins

Waghorn - £2m

Abe - undisclosed, let's say £500k

Bamba - £200k

Vassell - free

Ricardo - free

Outs

Fryatt - £1.2m

Campbell - £1.2m

Morrison - £250k

So, before we get to wages we have approximately broken even.

The big money, therefore, has gone on wages. Or has it...?

Since the Thais came in we have signed on loan:

Cunningham

Naughton

Mee

van Aanholt

Yakubu

Kirkland

Bednar

The split of the players above is deliberate. It is difficult to imagine any of the players in the top half of the list earning over £10k per week at this stage, but generously we'll call it a £10k average. Mee and van Aanholt will be here for 10 months between them, meaning that their wage bill is £400k. Cunningham was here 2 months (£80k) and Naughton for a total of 9 (£360k). This gives a total wage bill for these players for £840k.

Yakubu, Kirkland and Bednar is a different story. Again, let's be generous and say these guys are on £50k (average) and that we're paying/paid it all.

Yakubu is here for 5 months (£1.1m), Kirkland for four weeks (£200k) and Bednar for six (£300k). This gives a total of £1.6 million.

The total cash outflow from player recruitment can therefore be estimated at around £2.5 million. Now, you can throw Sven in there at £1 million a year too, so £3.5 million

Compare this to QPR who have brought in a similar number of players on loan and signed Taarabt and Hulse. Compare this to Cardiff's many loanees, including Bellamy and Koumas for the whole season. Compare this to Burnley, who have just spunked £1.2m on Charlie Austin. Hull who have signed Fryatt and McLean at £1.2m each (although they did get Bullard off the wage bill at a saving of £300k). Sheffield United have a £3 million centre forward on their books. None of these clubs have made major sales in this time.

The fact is that there's always one club everyone is jealous of in every division. For a while it was QPR, now it's Leicester. How sad. If we go up, a remarkable achievement will be forever tarnished by the memory of an unfair advantage we never had.

I'll get over it.

They're just jealous.

I'd argue that our 3 outstanding performers so far have been Wellens, King and Naughton - of which 2 were here last season. Naughton's 10k per week wages are hardly astronomical at this level and Kingy, arguably the Championship's MVP, is pure homegrown goodness.

We certainly haven't spent the most but if somebody wanted to purchase a Championship starting eleven ours would blatantly set them back the most.

We should really start every home game by burning a big pile of cash because we don't know what to with it all.

Foxes for promotion!!!

fook em!!!! ...... and any opposing fans who winge about us i say... lets buy there best player and then sell him for peanuts to acrington stanley or whoever just cause we can!!

or we could just ignore it and get to the premiership where the money and backing we have is more comparable to the teams we would play against.

Good post been thinking the same thing my self but have never bothered to do the math , I have one point tho that makes you case stronger i very much doubt that Bedner is anywhere near to 50k a week at wba id be suprised if he was above 20k

Whilst we are by no means the money bags that we are being touted as your figures are missing a few things.

Lamey, Moreno, whilst not that good are both players we signed this season, Vitor as well albeit on loan.

Moussa and Kennedy were also signed in the Summer, although Kennedy is off out on loan again.

We also have Uchechi and Norales on the books.

Not forgetting Curtis Davies and Ikeme on loan from Premiership Clubs, I would imagine Davies to be on a decent wage too.

Does make it very interesting when all totted up. With the squad Sven is assembling you would think we had spent a lot more than that! re every other teams fans whining....... oh well!! I can live with it :giggle:

Yes, forgot Curtis Davies. Add £200k.

I left Sousa's players out because the perception is that the new owners have come in and we've spent a ludicrous amount of money. It's not (completely) true.

Ok, then you should probably take Abe out of it aswell, I think Waghorn was technically signed by Mandy too. The official start date of the new owners wasn't exactly clear if I remember correctly.

What about loan fees? Yakubu and Naughton's loan fees alone were rumoured to be in the millions.

Then there's agent fees, signing on fees, bonuses etc

Thing is there is no way of knowing, we have no real transparency over what the club spends, and if the other managers think we are spending alot of money then we probably are as they are in the business and would know these things. In reality we are all scrambling around in the dark guessing at these figures.

All true. And Edmund's points re: agents' fees etc are valid.

But if you read the end of my post, you'll see that half the league's doing it. Cardiff have had at least 6 or 7 loanees, QPR similar.

As for including Abe and Waghorn, it seems clear that these were signings funded by the Thais.

Given that the new chairman announced "Financially, we have also invested more than was first anticipated", I wonder if that means over the rumoured £10m?

Is it safe to assume we've spent millions on Naughton and Yakubu, probably Bruma when he joins & along with a fair amount on PVA too. Davies, Kirkland & Bentner would also cost loads in loan fees + wages

So yes (on the face of it), I'd go along with calling us moneybags too, but so feckin what? - We've stood by for years without consistent spending, obviously we spunked 5m+ on Akinbye and nearly £3m on DJ etc, but there was no sustained investment in playing staff - plenty of other teams do it. **** 'em

Thought he was out of contract at his previous club? :dunno:

When did we sign Norales? I thought he was just on trial?!?!
