absolutelegend Posted 19 February 2011 Posted 19 February 2011 Didn't think anybody played well tonight, with the exception of Bamba who was awesome again, Vassel and Mee were ok too. The only possible changes for the Cardiff game are Ricardo and Oakley. I'd expect Ricardo to play but Yuke to be back in the team.
B52 Posted 19 February 2011 Posted 19 February 2011 Bamba amazes me... How can such a player go unnoticed in a mid scottish team, unbelieveble. It seems he can do almost everything on the pitch.
wacky Posted 19 February 2011 Posted 19 February 2011 Ricardo 5- not commanding coming off his line when he does he goes flapping BUT he does keeps the tempo going with his quick distribution, sooner have Weale everytime thou, did nothing wrong before he got dropped. Naughton 6- another comfortable game by the best right back we have had for a while Mee 7- along with Bamba is the reason we have got 9 points from the last 3 games is down to these 2 guys, no doubt!!!! Bamba 7- as above, where has he been all his life? Bargain of the century!! Avh 5- new Ashley Cole i don't think so Oakley 5- quite a good game at Derby but disappointing along with the rest of the midfield tonight, not going to single him out like some people have! Wellens 5- Wellens plays well we play well, say no more King 5- sorry, but i would like to see Vassell in his role. He needs to play for 90 mins Vassell 5- not the right position, my comments are above Yak 5- yes he scored, played King in but what else did he do? We need him to do more & start coming to get the ball from the midfield, far too slow doing this Gallagher 5- 1 shot say no more Overall team performance 5- let City back init in the 2nd half very, very fortunate to get the 3 points tonight AGAIN!!!! Subs Waggy 7-great goal, did get stuck in when he came on. This is what we needed all over the park Dyer 4- should have pushed Oakley out of the way, overall non-existence Abi 5- didn't understand why he came on for Wellens should have been Oakley. In my opinion shouldn't have been dropped in the first place. Got a good engine Sven 5- poor subs tonight decisions, wrong players coming off & not the actual subs) disappointing in his first 11 to be honest. Want to see Vassell down the middle wasted on the flank. I know he scored but i want to see Waggy start & given a chance. Fans 6- good atmosphere, shame about some morons choice of songs (Weale) & idiots behind me moaning about giving the ball away & the foul & abusive language being used. Is is really necessary?????
Candidcamera Posted 19 February 2011 Posted 19 February 2011 This team especially at the back is so new together. Give them a few more months to get it right. Bamba is worth the entrance fee alone. The way we play was closed down and we had to earn the points tonight. Ricardo 7 - distribution very good Naughton 7 Good again Bamba 9 - star all night Mee 6 - distribution poor and prone to errors PVA 6 - settling in - great attitude and pace Oakley 5 uninspired tonight Wellens 5 - tried but wasn't his night King 8- good work rate Vassel 8 not on form at all tonight Yak 8 - getting better Gallagher 5 - poor tonight - sometimes wants to slow it down Subs Waghorn 9 - well done
skinnydipper Posted 19 February 2011 Posted 19 February 2011 Ricardo 5 - Can someone tell him it's football and not basketball we're playing. You're not meant to bounce the sodding ball once you've touched it! Naughton 7 - Decent display both defensively and going forward Mee 7.5 - Another good performance. Distribution a bit suspect Bamba 8 - Superb again. Strong, skilful and committed and very good at getting himself between their player and the ball. Great work for the assist. A team of 11 Bambas would be interesting PVA 6 - Not at his best but not his worst performance either. Poor dead ball delivery today. King 6.5 - Decent first half when we had the better of the game. Anonymous second half. Oakley 4 - Lacking Abe's energy and ability. Put us in trouble on several occasions with some woeful passing. Wellens 6.5 - Decent in the first half when we created the better chances but thereafter failed to show the quality or drive to exert any positive influence until he was substituted Yak 7.5 - Compared to Big Steve I thought he appeared industrious (but then so would a snail) Scored and got in some physical battles with their defence Vassell 5 - Huffed and puffed but that was about it. No end product, failing to get the ball in the box when well placed to do so. So much better when playing in the middle Gallagher 6 - Worked hard at tracking back. One rasping shot well saved by James Waghorn 8 - Bust a gut to chase back past our midfield to stop a Bristol counter attack. Put everything into his 10 minutes on the pitch and a great strike with his right foot ( yes , right foot Thracian) for the goal. Kissed the badge too. Abe 6 - Better than Oakley Dyer 6 - Tried hard but not much came off for him
Guest ttfn Posted 19 February 2011 Posted 19 February 2011 Ricardo 5 - One good save, but he terrifies me Naughton 7 - Once again, despite a poor team performance, he consistently provided an attacking outlet down the right. Defensively ok. van Aanholt 4 - Adomah tore him a new one, and delivery from set pieces was poor. Mee 6 - Good in the air but his distribution was awful. Bamba 8 - Towering in the air and majestic on the deck. Created a goal but also guilty of poor passing at times. Oakley 4 - Shit. After last week's performance I was hoping for more of the same. He's of absolutely no use at all in a battle, unlike Abe, and his passing was TERRIBLE. Not going to have a go at him for the one-on-one miss as he bust a gut to get there. Wellens 5 - Too many Hollywood balls, and second to every loose ball. King 5 - Missed a good chance, otherwise anonymous. Vassell 5 - GET YOUR HEAD UP MAN! All he is is fast, and even then he often turns back on himself when he has the beating of the full back. Yakubu 7 - Poacher's goal, somehow missed a guilt-edged chance after a minute and was actually a bit more mobile than in previous games. Another guilty of poor distribution. Gallagher 6 - Average.

Bettsj2 Posted 19 February 2011 Posted 19 February 2011 No worse than the chants that were sung for Fatty Fryatt at any time in the past five years whenever a striker missed a chance and Fryatt wasn't playing.. But Weale > Ricardo, whatever Sven or his acolytes might try and tell us. Agree completely about the Fryatt chanting but deffo disagree about Weale and Ricardo. Weale is better in some areas but Ricardo better in others. Neither are particularly great and neither instill massive amounts of confidence in anyone. Can you honestly say you've never seen Weale drop a cross or flap at a cross?

FuriousFox46 Posted 19 February 2011 Posted 19 February 2011 Ricardo 5.5 Naughton 6.5 Bamba 7.5 Mee 8 PVA 6 Oakley 5 Wellens 6 King 6 Vassell 6.5 Yakubu 6.5 Gallagher 6.5 Dyer 6 Abe 5.5 Waghorn 8
martyn Posted 19 February 2011 Posted 19 February 2011 Ricardo 6 - Couple of solid saves but very very suspect in the air. His short distribution is his only justification for being in the side Naughton 6.5 - Not as effective going forward as usual and Woolford gave him a couple of testy moments 2nd half. Not at his best Mee 8 - Yes, some poor distribution first half (invariably when none of the midfielders come short for a pass) but defensively faultless and a colossus in the air. He times his jumps so well and positioning is sound. Bamba 8 - Scores, defends and now gets assists. Never really troubled as all their threat emanated from our lack of midfield and the ease that Bristol C could get the ball out wide PvA 6 - Adomah gave him a tough time. Set pieces poor and a non factor going forward Oakley 4 - Utterly dreadful. Misplaced 5 yard passes, sold himself short when going for 50/50's invariably leaving a Bristol midfielder haring towards our back 4. Not good enough, nor quick enough to start. Wellens 5 - Decent 1st half but appalling 2nd. Not the first time I've seen him feel for an "injury" to avoid chasing back after losing the ball in a dangerous area either. Abe plays, Wellens plays. King 5 - Made poor choices in possession, unusual for King even in his quieter games. Inconsequential Gallagher 5.5 - Never really in the game save for 1 good effort well saved by James Yakubu 6 - Right place right time again., I can cope with a poor work rate if he's scoring however, he let defenders get in front of him far to easily and his hold up play/distribution wasn't up to scratch. It's not unreasonable to expect a bit more than this. Vassell 6 - Industrious but generally ineffective and when he did work himself positions, his final ball was poor. s people have said, he's not a wide player. Subs: Dyer 5, Abe 5.5, Waghorn 8
acooling08 Posted 19 February 2011 Author Posted 19 February 2011 Ricardo 7 - Better communication and distribution than Weale. Could work on catching but I am a fan. Naughton 7 Mee 7.5 - Solid Bamba 7 Van Annholt 6 King 5 - Inconsistant Oakley 5 Wellens 7 - Missed him when he went off. Yakubu 7 - Scored but nothing else really as usual. Vassell 6.5 - Gave energy and chased back well. Gallagher 5 - Missing. Dyer - People can chant his name whilst he sits on the bench all they like. But when he comes on he comes inside to often, giving the left back no option, he doesn't come to the ball when a pass is played to him and also looks lazy at times. Then he wonders why he's on the bench. Really? In the second half he just punted it up to half way when are players were still getting back to the midfield after defending. He was inviting the pressure.

Fox92 Posted 19 February 2011 Posted 19 February 2011 Really? In the second half he just punted it up to half way when are players were still getting back to the midfield after defending. He was inviting the pressure. I know he did that a couple of times, but in general, his distribution is better. For instance, when we try and break after defending a corner, the defence will come short for the ball and Weale will ignore them and tell them to push up where as Ricardo generally looks to distribute the ball straight away, assisting our counter attack.
darko2k7 Posted 19 February 2011 Posted 19 February 2011 Ricardo - 6 Distribution was top notch even tho taking a free kick on the half way line is going to far for me. Did ok first half even caught a ball from a corner to everyones amazment second half the handling problem reared it's ugly head nervus , made me feel really nervous every time the ball came high into the box Naughton - 7 Solid at the back and good going forward would of had an assit if the yak had not skyed it Bamba - 8 Legend Mee - 8 Great [player for someone so young his over head kick to clear the ball second half was awesome Van Aanholt - 7 Haad a good game fell he could have used his pace a few more times when going forward Oakley - 5 Off for abe next game for me was so bad never passes the ball forwards got an extra point for his lucky assist for waggs goal King - 6 Had his chance and did all he could with it did his usual job in midfield of blocking the angles and trying to make late runs Wellens - 6 A few good passes can not remember to much of his game tho Vassell - 6 Not much came off for him today but tried his best i felt Yakubu - 7 first half 4 second half First time i had seen him live and felt let down for a reported 50k a week player so lazy but the defence were scared of him so opened some space for others did not know he got the first goal till i got home and watched sky sports dam announcer said it was Bamba even tho i thought it was the yak i believed the announcer Gallagher - 7 Did well i felt, surprised he came off . Abe - 6 Better than Oakley Dyer - 6 Ok Waghorn -10 I know a ten is a high mark but for the time he was on i don't think he could have done any better, superb tracking back great couple of tackles and my word wot a strike
wakeyfox01 Posted 19 February 2011 Posted 19 February 2011 Ricardo - 6 Distribution was top notch even tho taking a free kick on the half way line is going to far for me. Did ok first half even caught a ball from a corner to everyones amazment second half the handling problem reared it's ugly head nervus , made me feel really nervous every time the ball came high into the box To be fair to him he was clearly fouled by their striker when he dropped the ball once, nine times out of ten we would have had a free kick, but not with that ref who seemed to think that cynical fouls don't warrant a booking. Also remember Mee taking him out in the air which made him drop it, don't remember him doing anything else wrong though apart from his long kicks, but Weale's were crap at first last season and he obviously worked on this and so can Ricardo. Weale does not fill me with confidence particularly and has cost us a number of goals in his time here.
bigneville Posted 19 February 2011 Posted 19 February 2011 Ricardo - 6 - Clearly has better feet than Weale. But hasn't convinced me yet that he is the long term answer to the goalkeeping position. Naughton - 6.5 - Nothing major to note, but his touch has been a lot poorer recently. Never really got forward well, but was pretty solid defensively. Mee - 8 - Another top draw defending display. Well worthy of keeping his place in the side. Bamba - 7.5 - Solid again, a little bit over the top with the football at times, but often gets himself out of trouble with it. Struck up a great partnership with Mee at the moment. Van Aanholt - 6.5 - Never really added anything going forward, or utilised his pace, but was pretty solid defensively for most of the night. Oakley - 4 - Couldn't pass to feet, didn't challenge for many second balls, and was generally out-worked and out-paced by the Bristol City midfield. Wouldn't expect to see him start against Cardiff. Wellens - 5.5 - Never really got going. When it wasn't going his way, he should have kept it simple, but still kept trying the killer pass. Was due a poor game. King - 5 - Missing! Gallacher - 6 - Never made an impact on the game, went through the motions. Yakubu - 7 - Know's where the goal is, and is always a threat with the ball. Always causing Bristol problems. Although he should come to meet the ball sometimes. Vassell - 6.5 - Did ok. Nothing great to mention. A little slow to react to turnover ball, but did ok. Subs Dyer - 6 - Never made the impact he wanted to, needs to stop allowing defenders to get him shoulder to shoulder. Always much better when he knocks the ball past the full back. Waghorn - 8.5 - Superb work-rate and finish. Really knocking on the door for a start. Abe - 6 - Don't recall him touching the ball, or getting his shorts dirty.
