Three goals is also a bonus in more ways than one as was Sven's comment about worrying about what we do now. I just wonder whether he'll maintain that attitude or go back into cautious mode once we come up against the better sides and, later, the play-offs if it happens. Forest and Leeds are still looking catchable - and I'm quite sure they'll concede more points - so it really is down to our own attitude and belief . Caution will win us nothing.

Nothing's changed from the fact that we still look poor against the better teams in this division. That's not a moan by the way, I'm delighted with the result today. But a bit of perspective wouldn't go amiss from a few right now... Great afternoon for us anyhow, we're not out of this by any means just yet.

Naughtons finish was also very good and Yuki Abe's shot which hit the bar was a thunderous effort! Well done lads lets keep going and City fans keep up the positivity and optimism!

I was sat near the player's bench and I have to say, had Joe Collins got hold of Naughton when he had been fouled from behind, he would have been doing time for murder. It was red mist time and took four players to hold him back.

We could have easily slipped up given our current run of form. However, don't get carried way. Scunny are pretty shitty to be fair. A good win against Pompey could get us back on track. Of more importance today is the fact the competition has slipped-up. Got a nasty feeling about Hull though. would be ironic if its Nige's boys who pip us to 6th

Yet we have beaten Swansea, Forest, Cardiff & Leeds from the top 6 this season. Perhaps we have just been out of form fir the past couple of weeks. It happens and also did we not look the better side for a lot of the game against QPR? As a realist we are one of the better teams in the division but we have left ourselves with too much to do imo.

Always knew we would win though because I saluted a magpie and The Beatles were played on the radio!! Hopefully we can make the play offs, the push is back on
Dylan Posted 12 March 2011 Posted 12 March 2011 Just got back home. Fantastic result for the team. Did the job on an extremely shit surface, hardly any grass at all. Of course couldn't play our passing game properly, but we got the result which is the main thing. Good support for us too, taking around 2200 out of a 6500 crowd; 2nd goal celebrations were epic. Vitor was great defensively aswell as offensively. Two good goals. Interesting to see what Sven does when Bruma's fit though, cause I've gotta feeling he'll try and bring him back in, but you can't drop Vitor, Bamba or Mee imo. Thought Abe played quite well. And Gallagher looked decent too, adding a creative spark to us. On a side note, Andy Hughes for Scunny is a dirty ****ing bastard. Spat on our fans towards the end of the 1st half. Yes we gave him a little stick, but spitting at us is bang out of order. Anyone else see it? Don't think there's any camera which would've seen it.
MC Prussian Posted 12 March 2011 Posted 12 March 2011 It was a good game, scoring three goals away from home certainly helped. The pitch was in a pathetic state: I know they got a lot of snow up there in winter, but they just didn't care about investing at least some money to prep it back up. You could say Naughton's goal celebration reflected that. The key to our success lied in defense, the newly-formed back four with Vitor pairing up with Bamba in the middle was almost faultless against a very poor home side. I'm glad for Vitor and his two goals, will get his confidence back up after being sidelined for so long and I think he should start against Pompey next Saturday. Maybe his improvement in all areas was partially down to the fact that he had a fellow Portuguese behind him, the chemistry certainly worked well and Ricardo did not just impressed myself, but also the guys around me. Finally, there were some "Ricardo" chants the guy has been deserving for so long. No flaps, no misses, great punches, great reflexes. I want to see more of that. Wellens really made a lot happen and bossed the midfield alongside a rock-solid Yuki Abe, who should have scored a goal from long range in the first half. I also thought that Gallagher and Vassell had a good to very good game, Gallagher in particular was the source of much mayhem in the Scünthorpe box. Vassell lacked support and only really found into the game in the second half, before he was substituted. I didn't like what I saw from both King and Yakubu, the latter had one good pass to a teammate in the second half, but never really adopted well to the poor conditions on the pitch. King missed a sitter in the second and had hardly any influence on our attacks. All in all, still a great example of work rate and work ethic. Hopefully, we'll now see a couple of good games where all areas of the team run on all cylinders. The referee was hit-and-miss, gave away way too many soft calls. The oddest moment was in the first half, when one of the Scunny players was tackled fairly by Naughton, but lost his nerve and retaliated. How he didn't get booked for that, I just don't know. And Hughes' clash with some of our younger fans in the second half in the left corner area (next to the away stand) was rather hilarious. On a sidenote, anyone got a link to the video for the celebrations of our second goal?

Then there was some chopping and changing with the line-up and 1 point out 12 was the outcome Now, 9 games to go, let's keep this team alone, no changes unless forced (injuries and suspension). Corky Posted 12 March 2011 Posted 12 March 2011 Well that was pretty comfortable, three goals, clean sheet and a win at a team who'd won three of their last four at home. The pressure was on before and generally we looked relaxed and tried to pass the ball even on a difficult surface. Scunthorpe had a good start to the second half but apart from that we always looked in control. Vitor man of the match for me, two goals and a commanding performance at the back. Naughton scored another cracker, the midfield was much better and Vassell was a useful outlet. Good win, and results went quite favourably today
