Gibbo24 Posted 19 March 2011 Posted 19 March 2011 Is it me or for the past 5 or 6 games Andy king has been one of the worst players on the pitch ! He never gets stuck in, he just seem to go missing and not do much !! What do people think ???
The Doctor Posted 19 March 2011 Posted 19 March 2011 i think he's been average, but unless he scores people don't notice/appreciate his box-to-box work.

Maybe he just needs a rest
acooling08 Posted 19 March 2011 Posted 19 March 2011 a) Bad run of form b) Teams have realised what he can do from early in the season and have marked and bullied him out of games since. c) His midfield partners especially Wellens are playing badly as well.
dannythefox Posted 19 March 2011 Posted 19 March 2011 The last 6 i think, drop him for middlesborough and he'll come back fresh he looks like hes blowing around 65mins now.
Gibbo24 Posted 19 March 2011 Author Posted 19 March 2011 Hmmm I think he should be dropped to for next match ! He did nothing today ! He did look tired tho

Agree with this... Especially c. For me im afraid abe is just not good enough. King would look much better in a stronger midfield.. And this has been svens biggest failing IMO... He's been pissing about with the back four when he should have pushed the boat out for a more physical midfield... Jay Thomas was my shout weeks ago

somebum Posted 19 March 2011 Posted 19 March 2011 I like King. Best player we have. Maybe a drop in form but still definately Prem standard.,
Gibbo24 Posted 19 March 2011 Author Posted 19 March 2011 Yea agree with that we do need a stronger player in midfield some who can put it about abit n get stuck in !! We need to be more aggressive
Kitchandro Posted 19 March 2011 Posted 19 March 2011 He hasn't I agree he did alright today and shouldn't have been subbed. But what does he actually do? Don't say 'all the little things you don't notice', I need some real evidence that he actually makes a difference in games. Too inconsistent anyway.

Thracian Posted 19 March 2011 Posted 19 March 2011 For me all the movement has gone out of the side and King is suffering most as a result, Yakubu barely moves at all. He doesn't close down so we mostly defend now by sitting back and waiting rather than pressing and dispossessing. And, because of that, our central four of Bamba, whoever, Wellens and Abe/Oakley don't really support the attack any more, or at least not quickly and consistently, meaning the passing and moving options have diminished. Even when he does get the ball, Yakubu isn't a predictable pass and move option. He's a predator who can lay a ball or two off on a good day but his strength is his ability to turn tightly and to find shots from somewhere with his close control. He's not one to continue moves beyond a single pass. Vassell is suffering the same as King to some extent because both are now so easily isolated. The solution is simple. Put the pace and passing back. in a 4-5-1 with Vassell in the middle. I'm not normally a 4-5-1 person but we really don't have the personnel to play any other system well. With a 4-5-1 we can utilise Dyer properly again and he will get the space to be dangerous. Defensively we still have problems, in goal, at left-back, with the eccentricity of Bamba and with our need to establish a consistent line-up that understands one another But I don't suppose Sven will listen!
Larry_LCFC Posted 19 March 2011 Posted 19 March 2011 I was watching King very closely today. I think half the problem is fatigue. Every time he made a brief run he was puffing like a 147-a-day smoker. We cant slag him off though. Top goalscorer. Plus Andy King standing still is still more than Yakubu does. The Yak may aswell be selling hot dogs in the concourse.

But we are often left very open through the middle. Their players have space to run into once they cross the halfway line. We also defend poorly. He's a good player on his day but he's not a holding midfielder or an attacking midfielder, he's not creative, he doesn't score goals and he's not a man-marker.

Agree entirely.. Very accurate post.. He was signed on the back of having a great shot.. Has he scored a single goal yet with this great shot?
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 19 March 2011 Posted 19 March 2011 He'll come back and score two in a game, then everyone will be raving about him again. Just out of form at the moment. Probabbly go and score vs England though.

The Doctor Posted 19 March 2011 Posted 19 March 2011 And for having a great shot. Apparently.. Not good enough, which is a shame cos I thought he would be I don't remember this, I remember reports of him being decent from dead balls but gallagher seems to get all of them. Bugg is right, signed first and foremost to be a holding midfielder.
funkyrobot Posted 19 March 2011 Posted 19 March 2011 Abe was signed because of the region he comes from - to encourage investment from the far east. He's demonstrated that he's an average championship standard midfielder at present. No more, no less.
dave_the_fox Posted 19 March 2011 Posted 19 March 2011 Heads been turned by all everton talk - simple
