Sly Posted 16 April 2011 Posted 16 April 2011 I'll be honest and admit I've watched us sporadically this season. I've not been able to attend as many games as I'd like and so my fews may have been tinted by what I've seen. Having played as a GK, it's a thankless job and confidence is key. Neither Ricardo or Weale inspire confidence in a shaky defence, as they are not confident themselves. Weale had started to find some form prior to the Derby game and then was dropped in favour of Ricardo. Only Sven knows his reasoning behind this but next season (in the Championship) we need to invest in this area as the shipped has sailed for both keepers as confidence is shot. Ricardos lack of English would have caused alarm bells to ring for me. A GK needs to be commanding and to do that, he needs to talk with his defence. The chopping and changing of our defence only hinders us and I'm now of the opinion that our loan players were aquired on the basis that they had to play if fit, as I see no reason for Bruma or be in contention for todays game. We've looked better when we've played more defensive based full backs, as in Mee and Vitor on the odd occasions I've watched us, rather than the attacking ones, Naughton and PVA. PVA and Naughton get caught out to much as they lack basic positioning ability of the ball and allow men to drift. We've got to sure of the defence before we can take the next step and get out of this league. For that to happen, we need to establish a team and use the same players on a weekly basis so a working formula is found between them. They need to know each others games. I know Hobbs was playing poorly prior to SGE arriving but that's because he need a partner beside him who could marshall the defence, we miss that type of player. We miss a Wayne Brown type of player. King, as good as the bloke is in terms of ability, does has a tendency to go AWOL during games. Heah, shoot me down in flames if you think I'm talking tripe but just my opinion from an outsider looking in.
Haydos Posted 16 April 2011 Posted 16 April 2011 really?! all Reading have to do is knock the ball long and he's all over the place like a headless chicken. Turned his back for goal no.2, was nowhere for the 1st. He's been very poor imo. Again. Partnership. He shouldn't be in the team in the first place as other combinations work better together and are more settled. BUT he's won plenty of ball and his passing's been good. Naughton was way out of position for the first and Bamba was made to look amateur. Nobody's going to go near blaming them though are they? It's laughable sometimes how selective people are on here.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 16 April 2011 Posted 16 April 2011 We seem to get the ball in and around the area and just doi nothing with it, not wanting to shoot and be waiting to get tackled.
Haydos Posted 16 April 2011 Posted 16 April 2011 No - ONE person was to blame. You're blaming Bamba is simply you hating on the guy. He's a centre back who heads the ball well - he's not a wing back with incredible speed - that's Naughton. You're right, two were. Naughton was out of position. A covering Bamba then ****ed up. Get real.
Sly Posted 16 April 2011 Posted 16 April 2011 We have good individual players ..... but no team. Awful miss.
Guest Posted 16 April 2011 Posted 16 April 2011 should have been three - perhaps the luck is now changing
Pegosteve Posted 16 April 2011 Posted 16 April 2011 And when you ask him about the defence Stringer Sven is going to say what? we are sh**e
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 16 April 2011 Posted 16 April 2011 This could have been 5-0 by now, what are the defenders doing? Shocking.
TheUltimateWinner Posted 16 April 2011 Posted 16 April 2011 Dw, We've got Gallagher our top scorer on the bench. (Anyone watching the stream will know what i mean)
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 16 April 2011 Posted 16 April 2011 If we don't get one soon it will end up 3 or 4 to Reading. What a miss from Vassell. Pathetic
