Blame me for Leicester's City's poor defensive record, says Sven

Sven-Goran Eriksson has said he should be blamed for Leicester City's poor defensive record.

The City manager admitted his young back four were lacking experience, but said that was not their fault and sought to ease the pressure on his defenders.

City conceded three soft goals at Reading, for the second consecutive away game, as their play-off hopes were left hanging by a thread as they crashed to a 3-1 defeat at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday.

Eriksson, who had attempted to sign a more seasoned centre-back during the January transfer window but without success, said inexperience was a factor.

"It is probably one of the problems," he said. "We have a lot of players on loan who are fantastically good footballers but they have very little experience of league football, so it might be that.

"A lot of these players hardly played league football before they came here, but that is not their fault. If it is anyone's fault, it is mine.

"It would be good to keep them all and they will be much, much better next season. They are also doing a lot of good things as well.

"But we are also not ugly enough. The two goals we conceded in the first half were too easy.

"We are working on the defending every day in training."

Eriksson accepted his side must sort out their defensive issues, and start converting their chances, if they are to cling to their play-off hopes.

"We have to change things, and I am not talking about changing 11 players and putting in others," he said. "It is hard for everyone because we have the possession, play good football, create chances but don't score the goals.

"Suddenly, Reading scored from their first chance and scored again with their second. We should and could have avoided both of them easily. They weren't wonder goals.

"Now we go to Nottingham Forest on Friday and we have to win, and I am sure we will play a good game there. I am sure of that."

City are waiting on the results of a scan on Sol Bamba's damaged hamstring, but Eriksson said the centre-back will be out for at least two weeks.

"It is a blow," said the City boss. "He has been very good for us."

At least he's being honest.

I wouldn't blame individual players either as they're only playing where they've been told.

Getting the balance right is a managerial decision and Sven has been quite clear in saying that's his mistake.

Fair do's, just don't do it next season Sven!

To be fair to the bloke he does seem to know what the problems are, his analysis is always close to what most of us say. He just needs to learn from the mistakes he is making and make sure all the problems we can see are sorted for next season. He's a good coach, I think he can do.

A noble approach to take the blame for our defensive errors, and yes, his way of tampering with the defense might be one reason for that poor record.

Yet, there have been individual flops in our back four that were responsible for some of the most comedic goals against I've ever seen.

The truth's probably somewhere in the middle.

Christ hope forest don't have any tall players then.

Think they'll probably play Boyd or Earnshaw through the middle with two wingers either side like us

Yes, Sven, that's the spirit. You'd better fvcking make sure of it as well.

Im a Sven supporter, but... if he knows this is a problem.. why is he NOT playing Vitor at every oportunity?

The mysterious "Bruma (who i think is a good young player) agreement" should be reviewed carefully and if it exists.. it should be ****ed off (tthe agreement not Bruma)

It's all well and good admitting it but the likely outcome is that PVA and Bruma will keep their places.

From the looks of things it needs to be....

Naughton - Vitor - Mee - Berner

or

Naughton - Vitor - Bruma - Mee

The latter leaves us very inexperienced and I wouldn't like to see it. I think the former is a must.
