Aeropars Posted 12 May 2011 Posted 12 May 2011 Surplus to requirements at Kidderminster a few years ago. I got sacked from a job a few years ago. Now, in my new job, I'm one of the best in the department. I developed, changed my attitude and invested time in myself. I see no reason why this cannot happen in football. Practice makes perfect as they say.
ajthefox Posted 12 May 2011 Posted 12 May 2011 Why? I presume your judging this player because he is coming from Newport County? The list of players who have even at 25 played at semi pro level and gone on to even surpass LCFC & play on the international stage is fairly long! Where have I judged him? I said I'd be very surprised if he could not he wont. More to the point, I'd like to see you say that you honestly would not be at all surprised if he was a solid right back at this level. I am not moaning about this and believe you me if he signs I'll cheer him on and hope he proves me and everyone else wrong. I Just wonder how low we would have to go before everyone would say no as opposed to "oooh no, I trust Sven's judgement, he's probably good" I mean what if we signed someone from Anstey Nomads or something? Would everyone still say the same or would they still say give him a chance?
teblin Posted 12 May 2011 Posted 12 May 2011 This doesn't add up at all to be honest. If we don't sign Kyle Naughton then I expect us to sign another good prem/championship proven right-back. As cover, I would have an utility player, eg somebody who can play right back and centre-back like Vitor. It adds up to me, in a perfect squad you'd have 2 players for each position. But i take your point about have players who can play in more than 1 position, Yuki could slot in at right back no problems.
J.Lisemore Posted 12 May 2011 Posted 12 May 2011 Good to hear, nice to see were not just thinking about signing Premier League rejects.
ScouseFox Posted 12 May 2011 Posted 12 May 2011 Good to hear, nice to see were not just thinking about signing Premier League rejects. Nope Blue Square Premier League rejects instead :scarf:
Stadt Posted 12 May 2011 Posted 12 May 2011 Strange move from Sven, but then again recently Non-League buys have been successful i.e. Charlie Austin, Craig Mackail-Smith and especially Michael Kightly.. didn't Steve Morison also come from Stevenage when they were in Non-League too?? Fair play Sven if you think he's good enough Chris Smalling used to play for Maidstone.
J.Lisemore Posted 12 May 2011 Posted 12 May 2011 Nope Blue Square Premier League rejects instead :scarf: Theres plenty of talent in the Conference.... Smalling, Kightly and Beckford to name a few.
ScouseFox Posted 12 May 2011 Posted 12 May 2011 Theres plenty of talent in the Conference.... Smalling, Kightly and Beckford to name a few. There's more talent in the Premier League, though. But whatever Sven thinks is right I'll go with, he's the experienced football manager, not me. If he thinks this guys up to the job, then sign him up.
Nick Posted 13 May 2011 Posted 13 May 2011 I'd assume. Neilson will probably be on his way then. Let's hope so.
jonw88 Posted 13 May 2011 Posted 13 May 2011 Michael Morrison came from Non-League and we all know how good he is... (now he's not even getting in the squad at Sheff Weds)... Can't see how this guy would get a regular place in the team, but if he's impressed on trial then Sven must think he's ok for the squad. Can't be much worse than LAMEy anyway.
Guest shearfox Posted 14 May 2011 Posted 14 May 2011 Could be a good player Sven doesn't usually sign rubbish and I'm glad he is willing to look for players in the lower leagues rather than just the Prem. Doubt he will be first choice anyway you always need good backup.
