Happy Fox Posted 12 May 2011 Posted 12 May 2011 http://www.southwalesargus.co.uk/sport/9021411.Foxes_target_County_player_of_year_Bignot/ NEWPORT County’s player of the season Paul Bignot could be set to swap the Conference National for life in the Championship under former England boss Sven Goran Eriksson. The ex-Kidderminster Harriers and Crewe Alexandra man has been a revelation for the Exiles in the past two-and-a-half seasons, prompting interest from several Championship and League One sides. However, following a successful trial, the Argus understands that Bignot could be set for Leicester City and would move once a transfer fee is agreed. County don’t want to lose one of their prized assets as they build for a promotion push in 2011/12, but at the same time don’t want to stand in Bignot’s way ahead of what will be a dream move. The Exiles will, however, take advantage of the Argus player of the year being contracted to the club and will be seeking a record transfer fee that eclipses the close to six figure sum that saw Craig Reid depart for League Two play-off hopefuls Stevenage. No bid has been tabled yet, but Bignot’s agent met with Leicester representatives yesterday. The Argus understands that Leicester scouted Bignot and assistant manager Derek Fazackerley also spoke to former County boss Dean Holdsworth, now at Aldershot. “I must stress that nothing is concrete at this stage, we gave Paul permission for a trial and have been in regular contact with his agent,” director of football Tim Harris confirmed. “Paul went up and by all accounts did very well, but at this stage we’ve not received any bids for him. “We are not expecting anything imminently, but if or when the bid comes, we will negotiate to make sure the deal suits us, Leicester and, of course, Biggy himself.” Manager Anthony Hudson confirmed he wouldn’t fight to keep Bignot with such a huge move possible. “Paul is a fantastic player but if he’s got the chance to play Championship football, we’d never, ever want to deny him that,” he confirmed.
zubi Posted 12 May 2011 Posted 12 May 2011 So Sven has a no limit transfer kitty and he decides to go shopping in the Conference National? That's like Victoria Beckham shopping in matalan
dbtcity Posted 12 May 2011 Posted 12 May 2011 Fair play to Sven I'm glad he's realised that there is plenty of talent outside the prem, even though I've never heard of the guy in Sven we trust
Happy Fox Posted 12 May 2011 Author Posted 12 May 2011 His Position is RB so will most probably be a backup.
Libertine Posted 12 May 2011 Posted 12 May 2011 His Position is RB so will most probably be a backup. I'd assume. Neilson will probably be on his way then.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 12 May 2011 Posted 12 May 2011 Says he is a defender on Wikipedia. Surely would be a back up player and one for the future although he is 25 already. Seems a strange one. but in :sge: we trust.
Happy Fox Posted 12 May 2011 Author Posted 12 May 2011 Andrew Penmann football reporter says he is a RB http://twitter.com/#!/AndrewPenman1
Wymsey Posted 12 May 2011 Posted 12 May 2011 Related to Marcus Bignot? He had a successful career as a defender. I really want experienced defenders to be honest that reads the game well, not give players from a league like this Bignot to be given a starting role.
Happy Fox Posted 12 May 2011 Author Posted 12 May 2011 The only reasons i can assume that we will sign him is that he is a cheap option, in the same mould as Kyle Naughton a pacey competent RB that will suit our style of play.

That and probably more 'willing' to be a squad player than Neilson, having jumped up a fair few leagues so suddenly.
Babylon Posted 12 May 2011 Posted 12 May 2011 Jesus Sven can't win. We sign premier league players and people moan about not signing players from lower leagues. We sign a lower league player and people moan about it being not a good enough level.
BrumFox Posted 12 May 2011 Posted 12 May 2011 Its not all bad, just because Sven has the money, doesn't mean he has to use it. If his scouts have found some lower league talent as backup then I for one support the decision. We need a full robust squad, not just a starting 11 of star names.
Fox 4 Life Posted 12 May 2011 Posted 12 May 2011 Newport County defender Paul Bignot could be on his way to Championship side Leicester City after impressing on trial. http://www.bluesqfootball.com/story/0,20970,13040_6928422,00.html?

Well he's experienced and how do you know that he can't read the game well?
dhermon Posted 12 May 2011 Posted 12 May 2011 Was a future star along with Nicky Maynard and a few others at Crewe at start of FM07 if my memory is not failing me think i signed him up along with Nicky
ajthefox Posted 12 May 2011 Posted 12 May 2011 Be very surprised if this guy can actually cut it at this level.
Kilworthfox Posted 12 May 2011 Posted 12 May 2011 Be very surprised if this guy can actually cut it at this level. Why? I presume your judging this player because he is coming from Newport County? The list of players who have even at 25 played at semi pro level and gone on to even surpass LCFC & play on the international stage is fairly long!
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 12 May 2011 Posted 12 May 2011 Strange move from Sven, but then again recently Non-League buys have been successful i.e. Charlie Austin, Craig Mackail-Smith and especially Michael Kightly.. didn't Steve Morison also come from Stevenage when they were in Non-League too?? Fair play Sven if you think he's good enough
Nickfosse Posted 12 May 2011 Posted 12 May 2011 Why? I presume your judging this player because he is coming from Newport County? The list of players who have even at 25 played at semi pro level and gone on to even surpass LCFC & play on the international stage is fairly long! I agree Kiilworth, good job there was no foxestalk when we signed Alan Smith from Alvechurch. The club would have been moaned at incessantly, yet he went on to a form a formidable partnership with Lineker and won the league with Arsenal and played for England.
Father Ted Posted 12 May 2011 Posted 12 May 2011 This doesn't add up at all to be honest. If we don't sign Kyle Naughton then I expect us to sign another good prem/championship proven right-back. As cover, I would have an utility player, eg somebody who can play right back and centre-back like Vitor.
dbtcity Posted 12 May 2011 Posted 12 May 2011 Just cuz we have money dosent mean we need to blow it!!! The guy's been on trial at Leicester and obviously he's impressed if were looking to sign him, I take it all you people moaning have seen the guy in action and don't rate him?!?!? Madness I suppose you would be happy with another "name" signing like lamey or maybe get cafu out of retirement and pay him millions!!! There is talent outside of the prem but I guess half are fans ain't going to be happy unless we spend 4/5 million on some mediocre prem player
Ford Super Sunday Posted 12 May 2011 Posted 12 May 2011 Leicester City fans in double standards shocker Once again I think i'll take Sven's judgement over 'OMG HE'S FROM NON-LEAGUE, HE AINT GOOD ENOUGH FOR US' folk on this board. If he turns out not to be that good, then he's not exactly a £2m, 20k week mistake is he? Give. Him. A. Chance.
Brown Fox Posted 12 May 2011 Posted 12 May 2011 Chris Smalling was playing for Maidstone United a few years ago and is now playing Champions League football with Man U. Let's see him first.
