Insurance scam?

Recommended Posts

I received my renewal quote the other day, and I noticed there was a big fat zero next to the No Claims Bonus section. So I called them up, and was told that my NCB would still be allowed despite the claim in February.

Now, I haven't made a claim, not even been involved in a prang - so I told them and asked for more details. Apparently, I reversed into someone's car in DEVON. They took my reg and vehicle details which were correct!

The insurance company said that the claim was settled - they hadn't paid out, and I had my NCB but this still concerns me.

Has someone got my reg, car make, model and colour and made a fraudulent claim??? Or did they copy a reg down and got lucky with the colour, make and model..? (unlikely methinks)

I know there are some people on here who work in the Insurance industry, and I know this isn't going to affect me but if someone has tried to mug me off, I want to know about it!

Were you in Devon at the time of the alleged incident?

No - I have never driven that car further south than London. In fact I know I was in London that weekend. Never been to the place mentioned by the insurers!

you can get all sorts of info on the net and can you prove you was in london that day

My insurance company are ok with it. But I am worried about how this was done, and could it be done in the future?

Contact the cops, could have some cloned plates out there.

Well you say that but... You really want it removed from your records. If you move to a new insurance company they may be able to see it?

Get some evidence together, if possible, that proves you were nowhere near Devon that weekend, inform the police there's a possibility someone has cloned your details, and keep your insurance company abreast of any developments (in writing, keeping copies). This doesn't sound normal or ok to me.

Good advice and also check a few other things like your bank account, credit cards etc just in case it's a complete identity theft.

If you carry out personal transactions on your computer give it good clean with some anti-virus, spyware and malware software just in case you got a keylogger on it.

Definitely inform the police.

you wanted to check your car as well to make sure yours isnt the cloned one and there a real one out there. (not saying you cloned a car it happened in the past where some one thought someones cloned there car but there car was the cloned one)

If his was the cloned one then would the claim details not be on the other person's insurance?

Having been a P.C.S.O. until recently, with Thames Valley Police, I have come across a few incidents regarding cloned plates.

A couple of these were cloned, re information to an insurance company, and the other to a garage, via the Internet, while others were cloned from vehicles seen on the road, of the same make, model number, and colour etc.

It is not difficult to do this, and my advice is to contact the police, and advise your insurance company, that you have done this.

It may be that the police will put a marker on your vehicle, which may mean you will be stopped, and asked to confirm ownership of your vehicle. Likewise, a cloned vehicle would also be stopped and checked out.

Saw something like that on one of the TV cop shows, some woman had been stopped about 8 times in one day as she was down on the system for the same reason :D Got to be done though.

Only sightly related maybe , but i heard somewhere that a great big building totally collased in the manner of a controlled demolition after being hit by falling debris and being subjected to minor fires . It was massively over insured for damage due to terrorism just prior to this incident .

This has never happened before or since to steel structered buildings , and the owner is on record as saying they took the decision to "pull it "

All the evidence of what happened to the building was conveniently and swiftly taken away to China and melted down , so making any investigation virtually impossible. He must have had friends in high places to achieve this . and get the payout as they don't usually do this unless their own inspectors have investigated .

Does anyone else think this maybe an insurance scam that could be part of an even bigger conspiracy ?

I reckon it looks well dodgy
