zubi Posted 22 May 2011 Posted 22 May 2011 Or maybe it is to lure Honda? Help him with the language , friendly face etc............No wait its all bollocks! If they signed Honda im pretty sure they would in hope that he would be professional enough not to need another international team mate to hold his hand while he plays first team football and his japanese buddy rots away in the reserves.
deepbluedevil Posted 22 May 2011 Posted 22 May 2011 If its true, they only want a 'token asian player' to exploit the market
Sly Posted 22 May 2011 Posted 22 May 2011 I'd be asking why Abe and not AN Other Japanese star? Okay so he may know a little English but ..... seriously?!?
ScouseFox Posted 22 May 2011 Posted 22 May 2011 Yeah, even if it's just for "Asian commercial reasons" or whatever, they could buy anyone from Asia, absolutely anyone. Why would it be Abe? United didn't just buy any old Asian to sell shirts, they bought Park Ji Sung, who's not only sold shirts, but won them games. City would be better doing that. Leave Abe alone.
vandamman Posted 23 May 2011 Posted 23 May 2011 Couple of bones to pick other than the fact it is utter rubbish. Firstly, I doubt he has that much of a status in japanese football that hes going to be selling millions of shirts, as much as we all love him he is only Yuki Abe of Leicester playing in the championship. Secondly, I also doubt that they are interested in signing Honda 'cause he aint that good, neither Honda and certainly not Abe are good enough to be playing for Man City now and defo not next season. Finally, even if this is remotely true, there would have to be an intention to play either Abe/Honda fairly regularly if they are doing it to 'cash-in' which neither would get in the team.
Father Ted Posted 23 May 2011 Posted 23 May 2011 I think people could be surprised. With quality around him Yuki would fit in perfectly. He does the simple stuff so well and does the dirty work that people don't see. He is overrated imo and in a team like Man City where they go 1-0 up and then just defend he could be an ideal player for them...

Ridiculous, player of the tournament in the recent AFC Cup, plays at a high level in a team that have made the quarter finals of the Champions League, star player of an international team that consistently does well at the World Cup. Honda is a genuinely good player.

Sirloin Posted 23 May 2011 Posted 23 May 2011 Isnt that what De Jong is there for? Yes and look at their win ratio with De Jong compared to when he isn't in the side. So they might be looking for a backup.

Honda is a world class midfielder, if you saw him play in the recent asia cup you would be in awe of his talent. He has been linked to teams like Arsenal and Milan before, so im pretty sure he will sign for a decent team and play at the top level soon. He will become the next Hidetoshi Nakata!
Darkon84 Posted 23 May 2011 Posted 23 May 2011 Yes and look at their win ratio with De Jong compared to when he isn't in the side. So they might be looking for a backup. Viera has been asked to stay another year by Mancini Also, De Jongs win percentage is 65%. Not bad in my eyes. 40 apps, 26 wins
Jakemoore Posted 23 May 2011 Posted 23 May 2011 I've just read that City are allegedly interested in signing Abe during the summer, absolute rubbish right?

Not bad in my eyes. 40 apps, 26 wins Yeah exactly, they need another good De Jong type player for when he isn't there, as Barry/Milner/whoever they have currently to come in isn't good enough Man City get typecast as a defensive team, but they actually lack decent defensive midfielders. They have a lot of generalist ones, but not that many purely defensive ones.
the_fosse Posted 23 May 2011 Posted 23 May 2011 The rumoured transfer deal of Leicester’s Yuki Abe to Manchester City that was released yesterday via ESPN, was, as I’m sure, just as flabbergasting to you as it was to me. Here’s a link to the story that unfolded yesterday and the terrific response of loyalty by our very own blue army! http://sportales.com/soccer/yuki-abe-to-manchester-city-i-beg-your-pardon/
Aidy3 Posted 23 May 2011 Posted 23 May 2011 if its true, that's great news for us! I think its clear that Man City pay well over the odds for players, so theres a possibility of a couple of million

Jake Shapiro Posted 23 May 2011 Posted 23 May 2011 that news is everywhere now. I just red about it on Polish websites as well.
FoxyPV Posted 23 May 2011 Posted 23 May 2011 Vincent Kompany and De Jong? I'd take either of them over Yuki any day so why would Man City go for Yuki? Worse than the Beckham rumour.
