MrAus Posted 22 May 2011 Posted 22 May 2011 What a load of shite !! Ther being linked with Fabregas and Modric, Abe would never be on there radar!
dave_the_fox Posted 22 May 2011 Posted 22 May 2011 The funny thing is - they really can afford to buy abe just because honda wants a Japanese mate. Didn't Dugarry play for Birmingham if they signed another frenchie?
Matt Posted 22 May 2011 Posted 22 May 2011 With respect to Abe, they could do alot better. That isn't slagging Abe off, I like him, he's very good but we're in the Championship, if he went he wouldn't play.
Finnegan Posted 22 May 2011 Posted 22 May 2011 If they ended up buying him purely to keep Honda company, never, ever playing him - I'd be gutted. Would have thought they could do better than Honda though, really. I mean he's good and I'd love him here - but if they want to be winning the league he's hardly a step up from what they have.

If there is any truth in it, it is associated with shirt sales and worldwide branding. If Man City are going to spend they have to do it this year before the finance rules come in. The thing they lack is a worldwide brand presence - it would make smart business sense to invest in a geographical spread of top players, which will result in millions of quid in revenue in countries that are not currently Man City brand aware. There's my sixpence.
Finnegan Posted 22 May 2011 Posted 22 May 2011 I don't know. I think that works if you're Everton or Tottenham, signing the likes of Honda to set yourself up as a brand in a big marketplace like Japan where they're passionate about their own players. But if you're Manchester City and you've got the financial clout to be pulling in names like Kaka or Pato or whoever, don't you think that they market themselves internationally just as much? Whilst also being intelligent purchases?

He would be silly to go as he wont make the team, however how many of us would actualy turn down a contract at the worlds richest club? <_< however if leicester need a replacement central midfield player i can play there

One would think yeah - though I just returned from Morocco with more football shirts on sale than you could shake a stick at......... no Kaka's, no Ronaldo's just 'Chamakh' everywhere. On my travels around Europe I've made friends with people in Iceland and Greece because of our previous footballing relations. Around North Africa, Ivory Coast, Ghana lots of big three shirt names - not a Man City shirt in sight or available to purchase......... I'd be interested to know how our shirt sales have gone from Japanese buyers and if indeed they are available in Japan. I do think it makes a big difference in income - I'd be interested to learn any further information on the subject though.

Joe. Posted 22 May 2011 Posted 22 May 2011 Well this would all be a little odd. He's had a solid first season here, but Man City? I don't think so.
That lad from Japan Posted 22 May 2011 Posted 22 May 2011 utter tosh, more chance of him going to hinckley
Leicester_Loyal Posted 22 May 2011 Posted 22 May 2011 Are you blind? Take that chip off your shoulder young man.
Adster Posted 22 May 2011 Posted 22 May 2011 Take that chip off your shoulder young man. Sorry, but it's just common sense that ON THE SAME PAGE as this one is another thread on this, so why post another?
NGoloMode Posted 22 May 2011 Posted 22 May 2011 Man City want to raise their profile in Asia.. signing an established Japanese international could help.
breadandcheesebrother Posted 22 May 2011 Posted 22 May 2011 the silly season has started very early! only way i could see this having substance would be if we'd somehow convinced man city he's worth a swap for ben mee or cunningham (but not mcgivern, clearly). on reflection, nope, it's utter utter testicles and i can't believe someone wrote that article..
gazfox9 Posted 22 May 2011 Posted 22 May 2011 Whilst I hope and don't think this is true, It could make a bit of sense. Man City pick up an asian player, who's already settled in england and speaks some of the language, for what to them would be peanuts (maybe 3 million), who will instantly raise the profile of the club in Japan. That way not spending big money for one of the 'bigger named' Japan players (ie honda) who still probably wouldn't be good enough for their best starting 11????

Help him with the language , friendly face etc............No wait its all bollocks!

I too think its utter tosh, I'm merely pointing out the possibilities. Just might not be as crazy as reading the thread title and assuming its for football reasons.
