Robbie Keane Sets New British & Irish Isles Record

The republic of Ireland is not part of britain and so not part of the british isles.

ROI have got nothing to do with britain but you still want to claim their achievements as your own don't ya?

For a start they are part of the 'British Isles'.

Secondly, nobody is claiming anything for Britain. As I have said repeatedly it is simply a fact of applauding Keane for overtaking Charlton. How is this still going on?

Read what I said again and then explain how you could possibly come to that conclusion.

This is what I was gonna say, but only in a more civilized way.

Just for the record, 22 of Bobby Charlton's 49 goals came in friendlies (44.9%).

By contrast, only 16 of Robbie Keane's 51 goals scored so far came in friendlies (31.4%).

You might also like to consider that for much of Charlton's time, England were one of the major forces in World Football - including four years as reigning World Champions.

Ireland have fluctuated between being ranked 56th to 12th in the World during Keane's international career.

This means that Ireland & Robbie Keane will have played a far greater percentage of their matches against much higher ranked opposition than England & Bobby Charlton ever did.

 The English media are twats.

It's the same with Andy Murray as he's Scottish when he's doing badly yet British when doing well. lol

Prussian - pot and kettle.

No such thing as the "English media" mate, our media is your media.

Plus i often hear from our neighbours how our commentators supposedly always do this, win and they are British, lose and they are Scottish, Welsh, Irish etc. Never heard it myself, in fact it gets pretty tedious how commentators seem to OVER-emphasise the fact that so and so is not English whatever the result  But you never hear that said commentator refer to a person as English when he or she is representing Great Britain. I think you lot just hear what you want to hear :P

The english media are ridiculously bias in favour of england (as it should be, to an extent).

Does grate a bit when, if a english athlete or team wins something it's "the english athlete", "a great day for english sport" etc. but if a welsh, scottish or Norn Iron athlete/team wins something they're a british athlete, it's a great day british sport.

As a nation, is your inferiority complex so great you have to claim all your achievements are soley yours while also claiming to have a part in the achievements of the rest of the members of the union?

Really? REALLY? I can, for example, remember Chris Hoy being referred to as Scottish multiple times when he was shitting over everyone at the Olympics. Like Webbo, I too wish I could be opressed.

If the English/British press they wouldn't print so much bullshit before and after every important game.

Never, ever, ever, heard this in real life apart from moaning Scottish, Welsh or Irish people, or those that pretend to be from those countries so they can differentiate themselves from the majority.

As i say, all i ever hear is commentators REPEATEDLY mention the fact that someone is NOT English whether they win or lose. Its tiresome the amount of pandering the media, especially the BBC, have to do to keep the neighbours from whining. They have to do this of course because of ridiculous complaints like this one.

Not for one moment suggesting that the British media isn't geared towards England and the English though, but when we overwhelmingly outnumber everyone else in the Union...is it that much of a surprise?

I was talking about Keane's achievement to an Irish football fan earlier this week, and he said, "Charlton didn't play a lot of his games against the likes of Luxembourg and Moldova." Since Charlton's time, UEFA has witnessed the fall of the Soviet Union and Balkanization, which have watered down the playing field to some extent. But I think your points still stand.

Pfft this is a real record

you're playing against a bunch of kids. Hardly fair that.

Still gives archie thompson the most mis-leading international gpg ratio.
