Guest shearfox Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Hobbs is limited you can tell him to just hold a deep line and clear to safety but as soon as you need him to link up play with midfield and play higher up the pitch his lost. Bamba is the better option for the way Sven wants us to play.
DanTheFox07 Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 id say wait until bamba get`s a defensive partner for next season and reserve judgement as I think sven will work hard on defense in summer!
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Hobbs seems to lack the ability to read the game, and is generally slow, and indecisive, from what I have seen of him. Bamba, though, needs to be more aware of what is going on around him, but hopefully he will improve this coming season.
jamesmilner Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 am i the only one that thinks hobbs is over rated?? i would much prefere to have vitor and bamba (or mee) at the back. We need a leader and for me hobbs isnt the answer. I'm not sure where all this bamba hatered has started from either? why are people thinking he is a liability?? ok he made a few mistakes but name me a player in our back for that didnt??? just look at the goals we leaked last season without hobbs ? our defence was awful verging on useless ! what are you on about ? how does a player go from player of the season to one not rated by fans in a season ? i hope you are in a minority or we are a club with the most stupid of fans !
Corky Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 just look at the goals we leaked last season without hobbs ? our defence was awful verging on useless ! what are you on about ? how does a player go from player of the season to one not rated by fans in a season ? i hope you are in a minority or we are a club with the most stupid of fans ! Yes, also look at the goals we leaked with Hobbs in the team. The fact is although Hobbs wasn't much worse than the other defenders, he wasn't much better either. He was player of the season the year before but that doesn't mean he wasn't crap last season.
jamesmilner Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 hobbs was crap , but when hobbs was crap so was king and rest of them . sousa and his coach destroyed our players , that takes time to put right . why did hull rise up the league , nothing to do with hobbs and fryatt ? bet fryatt is shit too eh ?
sphericalfox Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 should this thread be merged with the Hobbs thread in transfers? It's going over the exact same subject and same points over and over again.
Corky Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 hobbs was crap , but when hobbs was crap so was king and rest of them . sousa and his coach destroyed our players , that takes time to put right . why did hull rise up the league , nothing to do with hobbs and fryatt ? bet fryatt is shit too eh ? Yes, the rest of them were when Hobbs was, apart from King who was keeping our heads above water. Sousa was bad for the club and Sven put it right. He played Hobbs up until the middle of January, over three months after Sven was appointed. I've no idea how Hobbs and Fryatt worked for Hull, maybe they were sensational for them and we'll regret letting them go, but we did finish above them last season.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Sorry I agree vitor is better, but didnt sousa bring him in?? I meant the players sven brought in, mee bamba n bruma. Ok davies was good but for a few games
AdamN Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 hobbs was crap , but when hobbs was crap so was king and rest of them . sousa and his coach destroyed our players , that takes time to put right . why did hull rise up the league , nothing to do with hobbs and fryatt ? bet fryatt is shit too eh ? Absolutely fvck all to do with Hobbs. His first game for Hull was on the 22nd Feb, prior to which they were 10th in the table. Hull finished 11th.

Absolutely catagorically nothing to do with Jack Hobbs
Karljohn Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 I for one am hugely disappointed with our lack of interest in keeping Jack Hobbs. Under Pearson he shown so much potential and by playing him alongside an experienced centre half you can see the boys quality. I think its a bad piece of business letting Hobbs go, especially if were replacing him with Sol Bamba. Now Bamba is a bit of a fans favourite but he is not the answer to our problems, in all fairness this bloke will add to them. Yes hes quick, yes hes strong and yes hell score the odd goal but defensively hes naïve and a liability. His positional sense is poor, he makes attacking runs without thinking things through at the back and he needs a steady head next to him to reign him in! His last ditch tackles are applaud-able and made not only because of his good pace but because of his inability to defend in the first instance! Good defenders don't need to make late saving tackles, they eradicate the threat before it becomes one. Bamba doesn't read things well, Hobbs can. Hobbs v Bamba is a no brainer for me and were picking the wrong choice by a country mile. Totally agree, the honeymoon over for Sol, he will dine out on the Man City game for quite some time but you've got it nailed on, its like watching curtis davis on acid. Likes the ball to drop instead of heading it too. Jack Hobbs must be wondering where its all going wrong. Sol has made loads of mistakes, Jack was shown up on tv by Carlos Tevez who tears most defenders to bits anyway, still that seems to have stuck in Svens mind.

You may be right, we could possible have the most fickle inconsistant and deluded supporters in the country.....but you are definately one of them. i personally dont find it hard to believe that a player can lose good form over a summer. throw in the fact that the two playing styles varied quite dramatically between pearson & sousa/svens preffered tactics and you have a result which reflects the level of Hobbs' ability i think. he was unable to adapt to anything other than hoofing/clearing the ball instantly and got found out. look at the top teams all around the world, they dont play hoofball they have defenders that can play with the ball, pass it around effectively until an attacking opportunity arrives. i am in no say saying that we should aim to play like barca but that 'style' of football generally breeds success. Hobbs did nothing at hull last season. he doesnt want to.be here, get rid.
accessory Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Absolutely fvck all to do with Hobbs. His first game for Hull was on the 22nd Feb, prior to which they were 10th in the table. ...and we were 7th. Would we have done better with Hobbs instead of Bruma? Sven's frequent tinkering with our defence didn't quite go to plan.
Bettsj2 Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Sven - Hello Jack. I understand you won player of the season last year. Hobbs - That's right boss. Sven - Right. With that in mind and also i've been told that you are bristling with potential, let me explain to you how I want you to play. First of all, i'd like you to play on the left hand side of the defence. We dont have a natural left sided centre back at the minute but with the potential i've heard about, you shouldn't find this a problem at all. Secondly, i'd like you to receive the ball from the keeper short, then take a touch and pass the ball to a midfielder and then move into space for the return. Ok? Hobbs- Right i've got it. Play on the right hand side of the centre of defence, and when I get the ball, hit it long to Steve Howard who'll knock it down for Fryatt. Sven - No, Jack, play on the left and pass the ball on the floor. Hobbs - Play on the right and hit it long? Sven - Jack, i'm not sure why you dont understand. You can play the ball on the floor cant you and use your left foot? Hobbs - Errr, so when do I hit it long to Steve? Sven - **** bort till Skrida du dum pojke

ithuriel Posted 11 June 2011 Posted 11 June 2011 Hobbs played well under Pearson, just like Fryatt only ever played well for us under Pearson. Pearson left and since then both we're rather poor and unless Pearson is going to return you will not see Hobbs play for us has he did the season before last, instead you will see the hesitant figure of last season. Much as i liked him it is for the best for both him and the club if he moved on. As for Sol Bamba, he was impressive apart from when he was partnered with Bruma, Mee and Bamba Brumma and Bamba

Hobbs v Bamba is a no brainer for me and we’re picking the wrong choice by a country mile. Under Pearson and in a Pearson team Hobbs is miles better but we aren't now. We are under Sven playing different football and passing and making runs from the back where Hobbs can't do at all. It's like the Waghorn situation under Pearson playing in a 4-4-2 with very structured team and play longer passes they are great but in a free flowing short passing football team like Sven's they don't fit. Players can't just fit straight into system, some are good in certain formations and not others
I am Rod Hull Posted 11 June 2011 Posted 11 June 2011 Letting Hobbs go is a huge cock up... Lack of vision or what... NOT happy ..........................................................
fleckneymike Posted 12 June 2011 Posted 12 June 2011 This argument is going round in ever decreasing cirlces. Hobbs was OK when Brown was there to hold his hand and talk him through games. Brown left taking with him Hobbs' reading of the game. No one is disputing Hobbs' form for Pearson playing a very strict and rigid system akin to table football, under manager(s) who have a different philosophy and want the ball retained and passed he isn't half the player. Surely it makes sense to sell him to a club which suits his style rather than keeping him here where he'll never play regularly and prove to be a liability when he does.

Congrats on adding to it I agree though, everything has pretty much been said. Will be slightly more interesting when we hear of any developments.
