the_fosse Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 I for one am hugely disappointed with our lack of interest in keeping Jack Hobbs. Under Pearson he shown so much potential and by playing him alongside an experienced centre half you can see the boys quality. I think it’s a bad piece of business letting Hobbs go, especially if we’re replacing him with Sol Bamba. Now Bamba is a bit of a fans favourite but he is not the answer to our problems, in all fairness this bloke will add to them. Yes he’s quick, yes he’s strong and yes he’ll score the odd goal but defensively he’s naïve and a liability. His positional sense is poor, he makes attacking runs without thinking things through at the back and he needs a steady head next to him to reign him in! His last ditch tackles are applaud-able and made not only because of his good pace but because of his inability to defend in the first instance! Good defenders don't need to make late saving tackles, they eradicate the threat before it becomes one. Bamba doesn't read things well, Hobbs can. Hobbs v Bamba is a no brainer for me and we’re picking the wrong choice by a country mile.
Fox92 Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 I agree. I wanted to see Hobbs here, at Leicester, in the first team, next season. He wasn't brought by Liverpool for no reason, the potential was there and I think part of it still is. As you said, he was quality under Pearson, and I don't think he can just drop from player of the year to nothing. Yes he’s quick, yes he’s strong and yes he’ll score the odd goal but defensively he’s naïve and a liability. I don't think Bamba is fast though, but I do feel that he is a liability.

While I agree with you in some of the points, I think that Jack Hobbs was good in Pearson's system where he didn't need to have control of the ball for significant periods of the game. He clearly is limited in terms of his ability on the ball and doesn't fit Sven's idea of a centre half. I would like someone to come in before he leaves though.
Webbo Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 I really like and rate Hobbs but if he's not going to get a game here what's the point of hanging on to him? We just have to trust Sven's judgement on this.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Cant blame hobbs if he goes. Quality player, bettered by no-one sven brought in last season
Jimbo Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 I agree. I wanted to see Hobbs here, at Leicester, in the first team, next season. As you said, he was quality under Pearson, and I don't think he can just drop from player of the year to nothing. He wasn't sold by Liverpool for no reason either, and for a very cheap price.
Brown Fox Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Cant blame hobbs if he goes. Quality player, bettered by no-one sven brought in last season What about Moreno!
bmt Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Starting to feel a bit like Weale vs. Ricardo. Please just back the managers decision. Yes I would have loved Hobbs to adapt his game and flourish under the new style, but he hasn't. He was given chances and he hasn't performed. If he leaves, so be it. I for one would much rather watch Svens team playing attractive football than the hoof-ball we were used to (even though it was effective under Pearson).
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Hobbs isnt one of Sven's favourites, like Fryatt he just doesnt see him in his plans. Stupid I think, Hobbs is better than any other defenders we have had recently.
Corky Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Would like to see Hobbs stay but we may be getting someone better in.
AdamN Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 People seem to forget that Sven wasn't here last season. He didn't see the performances that made Hobbs player of the season. He came here in October, and since then, Hobbs hasn't shown him why he was rated so highly under Pearson. He needed to shift the players that weren't performing, in order to turn the season around. As Hobbs wasn't performing at the time, it's hard to see how you can criticise Sven for wanting to replace him. As such, he brought Bamba in, who put in some sterling performances at the start, and cemented his place in the side. At the time, everyone was praising Sven for such a magnificent signing. By the time Bamba's performances started to falter slightly, Hobbs had already been sent on his merry way to Hull, so there was hardly an option to bring him back into the side anyway. By now, I wouldn't be surprised if Hobbs would rather be at Hull under Pearson, much like Fryatt, and I really can't see him being in Sven's plans either. Ho hum.
Stevosevic Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Hobbs was awful last season. Before Sven and after Sven's appointment. He only has himself to blame, he knows he didn't perform when Sven came in, the same can be said with Fryatt. They should have known you don't get long to impress when a world class manager gets appointed. I've heard that Hobbs is no saint off the field either, as with Fryatt.
bmt Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 I don't think Bamba is fast though, but I do feel that he is a liability. For a center back he is ridiculously quick, not sure why you disagree?!
darko2k7 Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Hobbs isnt one of Sven's favourites, like Fryatt he just doesnt see him in his plans. Stupid I think, Hobbs is better than any other defenders we have had recently. Davies, Vitor , Mee are all better IMO.
Guest Col city fan Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Cant blame hobbs if he goes. Quality player, bettered by no-one sven brought in last season This... Hope this don't come back and bite Sven on the arse
Guest Col city fan Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Cant blame hobbs if he goes. Quality player, bettered by no-one sven brought in last season [/ Still think Hobbs will become a top centre back
goose2010 Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 am i the only one that thinks hobbs is over rated?? i would much prefere to have vitor and bamba (or mee) at the back. We need a leader and for me hobbs isnt the answer. I'm not sure where all this bamba hatered has started from either? why are people thinking he is a liability?? ok he made a few mistakes but name me a player in our back for that didnt???
Babylon Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 bettered by no-one sven brought in last season But he also wasn't any better than anyone we brought in last season. Hobbs was shit last year, end of story. Whether it's the style of play, or how we set ourselves out (more attacking) I don't know. Whatever it is he didn't look comfortable from day one of the season, I'd rather get rid and bring someone in who will look comfortable in that system (if it's possible).
Libertine Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Vitor > Mee > Tunch > Bamba > Davies Davies isn't a left back you gimp.
Mack Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 I think we can find better than both of them this summer. I would also disagree about not finding anything better than Hobbs last season, Vitor was superb when he was fit.
ajthefox Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Disappointed Hobbs is probably going but not surprised and when you look at it from Sven's point of view, if he doesn't think Hobbs is good enough then there's not much reason to keep him.
Brown Fox Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Cant blame hobbs if he goes. Quality player, bettered by no-one sven brought in last season Personally though I thought Mee and Vitor were much better than Hobbs, it was just as a unit our defense was shit. Individually each were very good. Most people would love a defence like Naughton-Vitor-Mee-PVA but as a unit last season we were shite.
stix Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 Round & Round in circles.....again! Hobbs was poor last season, under Sousa & Sven. He was given the opportunity to bag himself a 1st team place and blew it. Then got the arse, went on loan to Hull(under Pearson might i add) and still didnt impress. It seems pretty obvious he wants a move so just let him go. And the way some peoples brains work on here is utterly baffling.
