These days it just pumps out more and more generic apple crap and then comes up with ideas like THIS SH*T Apart from it probably being a load of bollocks, lets face it, a half clever programmer will build a fix for it before it is on the market. Apple 'Planning To Ban iPhone Videos At Gigs' Recording your favourite band at a concert or festival could soon be a thing of the past, if Apple gets its way. Patent plans filed by the corporation in late 2009 have come to light, showing plans to automatically shut off iPhone cameras if they are held aloft. The Californian company's plans reveal that infra-red sensors would detect when a person is filming and would disable the camera. In the patent, Apple describes "using the camera to capture a second image that includes an infrared signal with encoded data". The phone would then determine whether that encoded data contains a disable command, and, if necessary, "disable a record function", or introduce a compulsory watermark. In the same patent application, Apple outlines other ways the infra-red emitter could operate to the benefit of users. One example cited is in museums. A transmitter could be located next to a museum exhibit and its infra-red signal could include data that represents information about it, appearing automatically on the iPhone. Apple also make it clear that there could be a future in retail environment for the software. James Holland, editor of technology site electricpig.co.uk, said implementing such an idea would be a 'long way off'. "Apple's plan is ingenious, and I can see why some music venues and artists would like it, especially if it stops bootlegging, but on the other hand many clubs and bars survive on word of mouth. To stop people taking photos to post to Twitter and Facebook would be lunacy. "A patent is just an expression of an idea, and no guarantee Apple's actually building it into the iPhone. "Implementing that sort of protection for a venue would be a large undertaking. "Enough infra-red light, carrying a coded signal to switch off cameras, visible from every angle around the stage - that's not something you'd take lightly, and since Apple would surely charge for the equipment a venue would need, it's a long way off yet." No Apple spokesperson was available for comment.

Jay Posted 16 June 2011 Posted 16 June 2011 reason to hate apple?reason to love em more like!!! does me head in when I'm at a gig (and I go to loads) that you spend ages waiting for the headliner only to be met with about 500 camera screens in the air!! seems to me some people prefer to watch the gig through a tiny pixelated screen than actually looking at the bloody gig!!! no kidding at Jamie Woon last week the girl infront was recording it on a phone and a camera and her boyfriend was recording it on his phone!!! bloody annoying!!!..... rant over!

Why you seemingly hate apple is also a bit of a mystery to me. mcdonalds, starbucks, microsoft, walmart, etc etc... I dislike many of the worlds big corporations for the way they take control and prevent small entrpreneurs from existing. apple once stood seperate from these groups and pretended they were different. Now apple have the most fervent and easily led suckers of all of these... just the mention of a new apple product has some fools salivating and queueing for hours on end so they can announce they have latest product that is little more than the same as the old one..but with a shiny red button (and an extra 100 pounds) To each their own, its not up to me how people act or spend their time and money... but this is why i dislike apple.

Going off topic here but how was the Jamie Woon gig? He's quality but hasn't gone mainstream yet and hope he doesn't! On topic, I doubt apple would ever do this. That means you can never take a picture if you put your phone above your head regardless. Stupid idea to even be considered.

Ha ha, to be honest it doesn't bother me but you might like this... I was on my way to the gym really early one morning before work and it happened to be the day the new iPad was released and there was a bloke outside the highcross with his fold out chair, sleeping bag, flask and book who had clearly spent all night camping out.... On his Todd! The only other people there were 4 young lads who had parked in the same car park as me (at about 7.30) and walked down in front of me! made me smile at that ungodly hour anyway...

At one point the bass got to a crazy level though

Apple continue to produce products which offer an outstanding user experience, and look great along the way. They also create markets and push boundaries in a way that makes room for other companies to enter. Case in point. The tablet market - most of the tech world said it was niche and wouldn't sell. 20 millions ipads later it looks like it ight overtake the laptop and every man and his dog is trying to get a piece of the action.

Totally agree, saw chase and status a few months ago, instead of raving, about 100 girls a the front had their phones out recording! Kills the atmosphere

I should add that I don't have an iPad because it seems a lot of cash for what it brings me right now. Wouldn't mind one though. If work would let me access the corporate wifi on it then it would be a godsend.
