They want £2m for him.

Thanks Bert -

Maybe it will settle around the £1.5 mark if it gets done then, and hopefully it does, I think he is worth it. Based more on his Ireland showing than recent club career. Remember he has Dunne of Villa and O'Shea of Man Utd, Clarke of Villa, as well as a few more emerging players, (Wilson of Stoke) and older experienced Champoinship players, (Bruce of Leeds, O'Dea of Celtic/Ipswich, Delaney of Hull) up against him for that spot but he plays when fit, always. He also has won admiration from Irish fans for always showing up, even when not fully fit, he makes the trips, a good bloke to have around a squad. I think he could step up if Leicester went up also.

Did you just put across a point which absolves all but the CB pairing for all goals conceded in the modern game? Did you seriously just do that ?

What do you think?

Sven's targets are going from promising (Nugent, Derbyshire) to downright shit (St Ledger, Korean guy, Mackail Smith)

Some in depth research there acooling, I'll trust your opinion

Average player.

Whilst I agree to an extent that he is average, the championship is a very average league and we can't expect to fill every position in the team with someone who is of premiership class.

We need some players in the team that are championship ready and competent at this level. He knows the league and we need a couple of battlers in the team who can mix it when we come up against tin-pot teams who look to ruin the game.

For all Sol Bamba's tricks we could do with someone next to him who is no nonsense and not afraid to mix it.

Fair points, but I hope we tell them to do one if £2m is the asking price.

Think St Ledger could be a good signing for us. Bamba needs a steady no nonsense defender next to him and he or Mee could be the solution. Also the guy obviously has potential, plays regularly for Ireland. Couldn't really do much with a poor Preston side. Including players such as Callum Davidson,Wayne Brown just mentioning the back 4! I think 2M is a bit too steep. We should meet at 1.5M and I think we have got ourselves a good solid Defender.

Also these are the kind of players I think we should be buying solid experienced Championship players that are 100% committed to doing a job for the team. I think we are dealing with our transfers so far the right way, they remind me of QPR's signings last season, all experienced championship players that know the league inside out.(Jamie Mackie,Paddy Kenny,Clint Hill,Shaun Derry,Bradley Orr,Rob Hulse)All of them apart from the last I mentioned played a part in clinching promotion last season.

If we go the way we have been in our financial dealings then I think it will be a season to remember!

They'll start about £2m, we'll start about £1m and it will be settled about £1.25m with £0.5m if we get promotion. We will not pay £2m. The player wants to leave. Ipswich and others who may be interested are not such a good bet for promotion so would have to offer more than us to get him ie £1.5m. The player will want to come to us 'cos we will pay him more. If all that doesn't work, we should get someone else.

It should be the same process for anyone we are pursuing.

Why ask then?

I asked in an effort to give fair hearing before dismissing you as a retard, buddy.

Which anyone who feels the CB pairing is responsible, exclusively for any and all goals any team concedes, clearly is.

What if the FB's (who in your world are upfield 90% of the time these days anyway, that was the first clue you might be a bit special) dont stop the cross, what if the midfield dont track the runs thus leaving the CB pairing outnumbered, perhaps 5 on 2. is it still their fault?

What if from a set piece, condeded for arguements sake by a FB in one of his rare moments in position, is badly defended by a midfielder who loses his man, who then scores. Is that the CB's fault?

Now I could go on, and on and on with differing scenarios whereby a goal is conceded through no fault of the CB, but there is only so much time I will spend with you.

Good luck out there, I think you may need it all.

Fair enough, you win.

I will accept your capitulation good Sir, and in return for its toothless and immediate nature, thereby having caused me no real bother, I have decided you may live.

Go forth and prosper my good man.

I wish you well in it all.

Right now, yes, as we only own Bamba and Hobbs, who's almost definitely off to Hull. He's a standard Championship defender really.

It seems from the report (if to be believed) would be almost a straight swap for Hobbs. If we are paying 750k for St Ledger and we are getting 800k from Hull. The question becomes is St Ledger better than Hobbs. I would suggest yes, in particular in his distribution and control. May not be as strong in the air though.

Add in Mills and a Mee or Duffy on loan and that is one hell of a group with Bamba of CB's

I think we may have given up on St Ledger as we made a decent bid of £750,000, and Preston have told us you can have him for £2M! Maybe why we are turning our attention to Mills as he has a lot of championship experience,he's a leader and he's got more quality than St Ledger. :scarf

The last reason why I think we are going for Mills,Whittingham,Schmeichel,Danns etc. As ASVen wants to buy players that are good enough for the Premier League and not just for the Championship, as if we sign these kind of players now maybe for a hefty price but at least we won't have to have a massive rebuild next season.

Leicester City will have to increase their offer for Preston North End defender Sean St Ledger.

City have made a bid for the Republic of Ireland international, believed to be £750,000.

Other clubs have also made an approach, but Preston boss Phil Brown has revealed there have been no offers to tempt the newly-relegated League One club into selling.

The 26-year-old is highly sought after and City see him as a player who can help shore up a defence that leaked 71 league goals last season.

However, Preston will not let him go unless their evaluation is met, and they will be looking for over £1 million for St Ledger, who has 19 international caps.

Reports that St Ledger has already undergone a medical at City are massively premature and it is believed the Birmingham-born defender is still on holiday having been given extra time off after playing for Ireland against Italy earlier this month.

"With regards to Sean, there is a lot of speculation and paper talk about him," said Brown.

"There have been bids put on the table for him, but nothing substantial enough yet to wet the whistle of the owner. We're going to take our time and give bids a lot of thought."

From the Merc.

PNE turned down 1.5m for St. Sledger in January from ipswich, 750k is laughable to be honest, add another 1 million and were getting somewhere, although i do think 1.5m would get accepted as we need to sell before we buy!
