Walkers Stadium/Filbert Way

I've noticed recently that all official press releases no longer refer to the 'Walkers Stadium' but instead use 'Filbert Way'... Does this mean we have a new name? Did I miss something!?!?

the owners want to rename it the King Power Stadium so they are probably negotiating a buy out of the contract with Walkers

I'd rather it just stayed as Filbert Way than keep changing name every few years due to sponsorship. Can't believe we're on that bandwagon.

That big income shaped bandwagon?

Jeez. New stadiums will be sponsored, get used to it.

having a sponsor doesnt mean you cant still refer to the ground filbert way, filbert st was officially called city stadium but everybody still called it filbert st, if the owners want to call it king power stadium and pump millions of pounds into the club at a time where other clubs are financially unstable to promote their name thats fine by me

The original naming rights were only ever for 10 years. A snip at £500k too, apparently.

PS. King Power Stadium would sound ridiculous. Like the sort of place an ancient monarch would have fed peasants to lions or something for his own entertainment.

I heard that King Power want to keep it called the walkers, cause they know how the supporters feel

But thats what Ian Stringer said so............ :sweating:

Hoos wasn't at the club when the naming rights were negotiated. Mandaric also renegotiated when he first took over the club, also before Hoos.

At the time the club were in dire financial strengths. Walkers had a strong negotiating platform and little reason for sentimentality having lost the shirt sponsorship to LG, they exploited that position ruthlessly.

I dont think the KP stadium sounds too bad.

I think it sounds nuts. ;)

Crisps, nuts... I like it. We have some continuity there - and continuity becomes tradition.

We also need to combine a reference to the traditions of the game with a little nod to our current financiers.

How about "The Theatre of Crisps (Thai Red Curry Flavour)". The bit in brackets would allow some room for manoeuvre, so for example if the club was bought out by Paulo Sousa, "Thai Red Curry" could become "Piri Piri".

I think it's important that we don't stray too far from the traditions that the game is all about.

Still a shocking deal by our then board. Compare and contrast to the deal Arsenal did for the Emirates.

It bugs me that Walkers have the sponsorship rights until 2017, but I'd rather see the current owners spend money on strengthening the side than on buying the contract to change the stadium name.
