MC Prussian Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 Apparently, there's been an explosion in the government district of the Norwegian capital. http://www.bbc.co.uk...europe-14252515 Tabloid newspaper VG seems to have taken the biggest hit. There's said to be people bleeding all over the place. Valerenga - any additional news?
davieG Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 Vålerenga said this shook his building and his fiancé had to be evacuated from her work place. All a bit close But they both appear to be ok, thanks for asking. A large explosion has hit near government headquarters in the Norwegian capital Oslo. The blast is thought to have caused damage to the offices of Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and a number of other official buildings. Mr Stoltenberg was unharmed, said local media, but witnesses said at least eight people were injured in the city centre explosion. Pictures from the scene showed glass from shattered windows in the streets. All roads into the city centre have been closed, said the NRK newspaper. An NRK journalist, Ingunn Andersen, said the headquarters of tabloid newspaper VG had also been damaged. "I see that some windows of the VG building and the government headquarters have been broken. Some people covered with blood are lying in the street," Associated Press news agency quoted him as saying
MikeyT Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 Blimey, not good at all. Lets just hope that any casualties aren't serious.
davieG Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 Looking at the aftermath on the news it's a wonder no one's been killed, assuming that's still the case.
Zingari Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 More bad news . Are there any indications yet if this is a terrorist act , or a gas/electrical fault or something ?
davieG Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 More bad news . Are there any indications yet if this is a terrorist act , or a gas/electrical fault or something ? Not as far as I can see police are not commenting on the cause, apparently one fatality has been reported.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 Bad news indeed. Glad to hear Val and family are ok. Reports of the smell of sulphur would probably have me leaning towards it being a crude bomb.
Zingari Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 Not as far as I can see police are not commenting on the cause, apparently one fatality has been reported. just had a look on a few other sites and there is a few mentions of a tangled wreck of a car at the scene , but nothing confirmed
Trav Le Bleu Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 just had a look on a few other sites and there is a few mentions of a tangled wreck of a car at the scene , but nothing confirmed How insulting! Val drove to work in that!
davieG Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 How insulting! Val drove to work in that! That's why it's wrecked then as he can't drive.
davieG Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 Seems more and more like it's a bomb and police are now talking fatalities. Police are now saying it is a bomb.
davieG Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 Who'd want to blow up Norway? There's a fair few Muslims living in Oslo and Norway seems to have some involvement in Afghanistan.
davieG Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 Some more pictures - http://www.rte.ie/news/2011/0722/oslo.html
Zingari Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 Who'd want to blow up Norway? Not sure , but maybe something to do with this . http://www.ndtv.com/article/world/explosion-near-prime-ministers-office-in-oslo-1-dead-121379 The blast comes as the Scandinavian country has grappled with a series of home-grown terror plots linked to al-Qaida, and six years after an uproar over cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in neighbouring Denmark. Last week, a Norwegian prosecutor filed terror charges against an Iraqi-born cleric for threatening Norwegian politicians with death if he's deported from the Nordic country. The indictment centred on statements that Mullah Krekar - the founder of the Kurdish Islamist group Ansar al-Islam - made to various media, including American network NBC. MC Prussian Posted 22 July 2011 Author Posted 22 July 2011 Well, the bomb hit the tabloid VG the most, I read it was planted inside their main building (which is adjacent to the government district). Right now, seems to me this is an attack in the wake of the NOTW/Murdoch/Brooks scandal and not directly politically motivated.

Most reports are saying Government buildings were hit the most, why would anyone want to bomb a newspaper building as a result of the Murdoch scandal. Do you recognise these?

Do you recognise these? Last one looks just like the building in Grubbegata 10-15, the one to the left of the heliport (check Google Maps).
davieG Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 Latest from Val they're trying to close of my street now, but people are still walking dogs and stuff - still a bit worrying, apparantly they still haven't found the other bombs
MC Prussian Posted 22 July 2011 Author Posted 22 July 2011 How do they know there's other bombs? Have the been informed beforehand or has someone noticed the police?
Zingari Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 How do they know there's other bombs? Have the been informed beforehand or has someone noticed the police? yes , i was thinking the same thing ,
davieG Posted 22 July 2011 Posted 22 July 2011 How do they know there's other bombs? Have the been informed beforehand or has someone noticed the police? I think it's just strong rumours that his fiancé picked up when she was evacuated after the first explosion considering they didn't get them out but put them in the basement of a building
