NeilyBoy Posted 30 July 2011 Posted 30 July 2011 See HERE Not too much he coulda done different with the way the ball pinged about tbf.
RowlattsFox Posted 30 July 2011 Posted 30 July 2011 See HERE Cheers, I was wrong then, nothing Kasper could have done there I don't think, just St Ledger and Abe getting in each others way. Quality counter attack, pace is incredible, I've always liked how Mourinho leaves at least 2 attackers up when defending corners, more teams should do this.
shiv Posted 30 July 2011 Posted 30 July 2011 how can people say peltier was average compared to some of the others. he was class and looked comfortable all the time and lasted the full 90 despite the amount of substitutions, says it all. thought nugent looked quality as well. bamba looked immense as well And he had to deal with Cristiano Ronaldo running at him in the second half! Agree with you completely. And agree with Bert, Wellens was defo at fault for the first goal.
Guest NGoloMode Posted 30 July 2011 Posted 30 July 2011 Bit surprised at everyone rating Danns highly. Thought he had a poor game going forward. Got tackled and lost the ball a lot. Bamba was our best player by far.
cc_star Posted 30 July 2011 Posted 30 July 2011 Kasper 10 On my phone in the bak of my mates car so can't type out the rest tough game to judge on, but felt we fell short up front, think nugent will be a good companion to sum1 but not good enough with whats available at the club, but then again not everyone is Real Kasper 10 - Shouted at everyone for everything, came out really quick, good distribution & some fantastic closing down for 1 on 1's, at times looked and sounded like his Dad Peltier - 8 - damn good, we won't have problems at RB this season Bamba - 9 - Normally I'm critical of his lapses, but he was brilliant, got a foot in where it counts and never put a pass wrong Mills - 7 - Almost too up for it, can see him picking up 5 yellows before anyone else. Put his head where it hates, great stuff, but error for 1st goal Konchesky - 7 - Experience showed, got a foot in well but prone to the long ball from halfway line Abe - 9 - Unsung hero in the middle Wellens - 6 - Not his usual self, but was up against Alonso & co Danns - 7 - Good home debut, some good tackling & in the thick of it going forward but also some poor lapses Vassell - 5 - Some good runs but as usual nothing ever comes of them Nugent - 8 & 4 - Like he was two players, great running 1st half leading the line, 2nd half could have done with a wheelchair, badly needs a partner in crime, a 100% must have Gally - 5 - Didn't really get a quality foot on the ball, his lightweigh-ness showed Subs Howard - 7 - Didn't look passed it, got amongst, should have scored with the header from waggy's practically perfect freekick (from where I sat) Waggy - 7 - Never really got any time on the ball but when he did he whipped across an inch perfect free kick (I think) Johnson - 7 - Looked almost great but nowhere near match fit Oakley - 6 - Didn't get too many touches on the ball that I saw King - 4 - AFAIK didn't do anything other than get fouled for Waggy's free kick I don't even know where he was playing Ball - 5 - Slow, lets hope Konchesky doesn't get injured Dyer - 8 - Did the hardest thing and scored. Personally think he's above Vassell, although Sven will probably see it differently Sven - 9 - Hard to see how he could do better, if he wanted to change us being overran a bit in 2nd half he could have subbed earlier, but he got the team playing as well as anyone could have hoped
Daz93 Posted 30 July 2011 Posted 30 July 2011 Schmeichel 9 Some great saves and quick decisions/distribution Peltier 7 Stood up well and put in some good tackles Mills 7 Poor header for their first, but was pretty solid Bamba 9 Numerous saving tackles and helped with our goal Konchesky 7 Got back well after going forward Abe 7 Good nipping tackles, but like Danns, lost ball too easily at times Danns 7 Good battling and enthusiasm, lost the ball a fair few times, though Wellens 6 See Gally Gallagher 6 Some poor passs, didn't really get into the game Nugent 7 Some good runs for balls over the top, held it up well when into feet too Vassell 8 Took on players and beat them, looked sharp Subs: St Ledger 6 Beaten too easily at times Ball 7 Surprisingly good skill on him Oakley 5 Didn't do much when he came on Dyer 7 Good finish, about all he did in the little time he had Waghorn 6 Chased but not much more. Decent free kick for Howard's header, too Johnson 7 Great feet and played it simple, also made some nice forward runs Howard 7 Same old Stevie, winning ball in the air was effortless. He's a good sub to bring on in the last 15 imo King 7 Was brill when he turned the two Madrid players then crossed to Nugent
wakeyfox01 Posted 30 July 2011 Posted 30 July 2011 Waggy - 7 - Never really got any time on the ball but when he did he whipped across an inch perfect free kick (I think) Gave the ball away everytime he had it and broke down quite a few of our attacks as a result
londonfox_93 Posted 30 July 2011 Posted 30 July 2011 Bamba was immense! Schmeichel was our second best player today
ian_marshall Posted 30 July 2011 Posted 30 July 2011 Personally thought it Wellens mistake for their goal, trying a clever pass when it wasn't on. My thoughts exactly. Typical Wellens trying to play the Hollywood ball giving away possession cheaply when we should have been asking questions of the Real defence. Low and behold his error left a number of players out of position and we were caught on the counter and conceded a soft goal.
Danno Posted 30 July 2011 Posted 30 July 2011 Konchesky has been great in all the games he's played in up to now. Had my doubts when he signed but very good defender, has great vision, good at passing and has a good shot on him too.

Had my doubts when he signed but very good defender, has great vision, good at passing and has a good shot on him too. Not a neg against him because of the opposition, but did you think he played the long ball from halfway line to often (I know it's probably because he didn't want to go to far forward against Real & leave himself exposed) but it stood out for me, everyone else was playing quick low passes & he seemed quick to hoof it. Good & experienced at the back though

Good & experienced at the back though Yeah, but the majority of them were good passes and found his man, already better than Van Aanholt tbh.
cc_star Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 Yeah, but the majority of them were good passes and found his man, already better than Van Aanholt tbh. Yeah deffo
Nickfosse Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 Back 4 and keeper very good. Surprised one or two didn't rate Peltier, he was excellent espec against Ronaldo. I loved ,uaghton but Pelts looks a better defender to my eye. Naughton better going forward. Bamba was great though I think his gifts of reading it well, using hos pace and strength is better suited to better teams (his other great game was Man City). Not so sure he's as good at defending standad Championship hoofball. Mills played one great ball to Gally. Very committed but Bamba looked better even before his knock. Still think Mills will be a great asset in our league. Abe disappointed me and I thought he would be outstanding after his settle in season. Thought he would close down quicker than he did. Wellens had one. Nugent did his best and Vassell shaped up well. Gally lost 3 battles he should have won early on. Couple of nice momentys however. Really liked the look of Johnson and Ball second half. Lovely gliding running styles and with games will become fine acquisitions I'm sure. Howard and Dyer did ok with their 15.
Guest parky0607 Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 As everyone has said, bamba was quality, always there with some brave crucial tackles. I thought abe was slightly disappointing to be fair, he played a lot of blind balls, and looked a bit flat footed when the balls wasnt passed directly to his feet. Schmeical was excellent, fantastic one on one saves. Waghorn looked nervous and was miles away from the other strikers at times, so he wasnt available for steve howard to knock it on to.
One Arm Babba Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 Kaspar 9 - Good start, not much could be done about the goals Peltier 7 - looked a bit shaky at first but got better in the second half Mills 7 - fearless but bad mistake, rather that now than when the real test starts St ledger 7 - Didn't do much Bamba 9.5 - Excellent performance MOTM Konchesky 8 - looked very good, Im expecting him to have a good season Wellens - 6 - stinker. King 7 - ok Danns 8 - Good work rate Johnson 7 - didn't get chance to do much, looks very comfortable with the ball at his feet. Dyer 7.5 - 1 goal and 1 good cross Vassell 7 - ok, I expect Nugent to take wide right when the inevitable striker signing happens Howard 7.5 - Did well, still will be valuable in the championship Nugent 8 - good performance, ever willing and did his best in a 4-5-1 formation Waghorn 6.5 - average Abe - 7.5 - solid game, but a few bad passes Ball 6 - poor Gally 6.5 - bad day at the office Oakley 7 - looked steady. Still could be a benefit to our team.
lee(lcfc) Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 Kaspar 9 - Solid, goals weren't his fault, great in some one on ones Peltier 7 - average Mills 8.5 (9 if he stayed on for longer) - put his head in where it hurts, good performance St ledger 7 - Pretty average Bamba 9.5 - Excellent, great tackling Konchesky 9 - Solid, great on the ball. Wellens - 6 - Nightmare game, was as though he was half a sleep King 7.5 - didn't really get into the game Danns 8 - Good tackling, some bad decision making but generally good Johnson 7 - didn't look very match fit, made a good run or two, good passing Dyer 8 - Good Goal, terrible corner Vassell 7.5 - Not his best of games, average performance Howard 7.5 - Won the ball well, that's it. Nugent 8.25 - Good runs, but demonstrated that we need a good striker. Got stuck in well. Waghorn 6 - Was he there? If I've forgot anyone tell me you forgot ball
Guest Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 Personally thought it Wellens mistake for their goal, trying a clever pass when it wasn't on. Me too
Guest Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 I only watched the video link (a good one but you can't see off the ball obviously) Kaspar 9 - What an upgrade over Weale. He played some great one on ones and made some fine stops. Can't be blamed for either goal Peltier 7.5 - got better and better as the game went on. perhaps a little overawed to be playing one of the best 3 European teams at first, gave me real confidence by the end Mills 7 - Looked good in the little seen until the error for their goal, perhaps concussed, still les mistakes than Bruma. St ledger 6.5 - quiet but only came on for the second half, no obvious errors. Bamba 9.5 - Excellent performance MOTM. In attack he was dangerous but in defence he was sublime. Konchesky 7 - Not as impressed as some with him. but I'm not complaining. Wellens - 5 Looked a pace too slow - but it was against the Real midfield. not enough simple passes. King 6 - one decent battle and cross Danns 9 - Really liked his game, he has got me excited for this season - and his corners were very good too. Johnson 6 - didn't see too much from him perhaps a little unfit. Dyer 7 - put the ball in the net well (is that it for this season though), got to love his speed and workrate chasing back Vassell 8 - I thought he had a good game. Skinned his defender every time and often got crosses in. Ran back in defence. should have been given the ball more often Howard 7.5 - Steeevie is what he is. A target man. Should have scored with his header - that's unforgiveable but I can forgive him not having the legs. will be needed against some teams when the long ball is the opener. Nugent 8 - Worked hard, looked good but lacked the killer punch, needs to get used to his new teammates and they need to understand where he wants the ball. Waghorn 6.5 - didn't do too much Abe - 7 - Some good tackles but some poor passes, like Wellens looked a little slow against a great midfield. Ball 6 - poor Gally 8 - unlike some I thought he looked quite threatening and used the ball well. Just needs time to get used to Nugent Oakley 7 - Didn't have much time to do too much
Splidge_ Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 Kasper 9 - Good start, not much could be done about the goals Peltier 7 - looked a bit shaky at first but got better in the second half Mills 7 - fearless but bad mistake, rather that now than when the real test starts St ledger 7 - Didn't do much Bamba 9.5 - Excellent performance MOTM Konchesky 8 - looked very good, Im expecting him to have a good season Wellens - 6 - did not touch the ball once I don't think King 7 - ok made a few decent ball's in Danns 8 - Good work rate ran his dreads off Johnson 7 - didn't get chance to do much, looks very comfortable with the ball at his feet. unfit work in progress Dyer 7.5 - 1 goal and 1 good cross Vassell 7 - ok, I expect Nugent to take wide right when the inevitable striker signing happens Howard 7.5 - Did well, still will be valuable in the championship Nugent 8 - Tryed his hardest but was surrounded by madrid's elite Waghorn 6.5 - average Abe - 7.5 - solid game, but a few bad passes in the first half put crunching tackles in Ball 6 - poor Gally 6.5 - bad day at the office Oakley 7 - looked steady. Still could be a benefit to our team.
STUHILL Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 Kasper - 8 Very impressed with his few saves and distribution. Also, how angry he was when we conceded. Love that kind of passion!! Legend in the making for me! Peltier - 7 Thought he was solid without being spectacular. He has big shoes to fill following Naughton but I think he will be solid enough for us this season. Mills - 8 One word.. Commitment!!! The two heads he put in were crazy! Mad man like! Another future legend. I think he will be well worth his 4.5million pricetag. Bamba - 9 Fair play to him. Proved me wrong today. Thought he was outstanding. Some of his last ditch tackles were incredible and deserves his start next week. Konchesky - 7 Solid at the back but like Peltier would have liked to see more bombing down the wing. Used to seeing this with van Aarnolt and Naughton so hope we get it at Cov Wellens - 4 Extremely disappointed how he played. He didn't even look up for it which was crazy considering the occasion. The game passed him by and Danns made him look slow and fat. Danns - 9 I thought he was awesome. Complete midfielder with energy to burn. Could do it all and perhaps tried too hard sometimes. A definite starter for Cov. My favourite player on the day! Abe - 7 I actually thought he looked stronger and couldn't believe it when he was given orders to the back four a few times! Go Abe and his new found confidence (plus English!) Gallagher - 6 Poor performance really. Deliveries weren't as good as they can be and not being able to beat a man really showed. I would prefer a winger who can beat a man and cross! Nugent - 8 Was impressed with his work rate today and he is lot quicker than I thought but he is not our main striker this season. He will be awesome playing in the 3 but out wide and cutting in. Vassell - 7 Well what can you say. Same old stuff really. Blistering pace and always beats his man but can't cross and can't shoot and usually just falls over. Would sacrifice him for our new striker Subs King - 6 Not bad, but STILL not involved enough. He has to realise he can't just be making clever runs off the ball. He has to offer more as a midfielder and have more touches of the ball. Still should start Cov though Johnson - 5 Disappointed as he didn't seem to want the ball much but I was probably expecting too much. He will need time and I hope he can become a star player for us within a few months. Howard - 6 Usual self. Giving 100% and I think he looks in great shape. I think he deserves a final year with us as he is still a handful for any defence. Impact sub at best though Dyer - 7 Just showed what having a proper winger on could do. Beat his man and created a chance within minutes and then scored. Another one who deserves to stay 1 more year Waggy - 5 He is a unit now! I don't think its helped at all. He looks slow and clumsy. Looks a different player to when he was on loan. Damn shame but I think he could be going as he had no impact at all. Ball - 6 Not great but he did look confident on the ball and looked to pass on the deck. Needs time and will only ever be back-up. Better than Berner though? Not yet, but potentially yes. Oakley - 6 Usual Oakley, worked hard and did what he could but is becoming a very limited player and I can't see him being in our match day squads. Sven - 6 Didn't see him once out on the touchline and I was also disappointed with how the 4-4-3 worked out. We never really looked a threat until Dyer came on and I do worry we don't have a plan B, such as a switch to 4-4-2 as he hasn't signed any wingers yet and Gallagher can cross but is slow and cant beat a man, and Vassel is fast, beats his man but can't cross or shoot!! We need a top striker in and perhaps a winger too. Also, I hope we commit more to attack against Coventry as none of our midfielders looked to support the attacks and we ended up with Nugent crossing a ball in to just Vassel surrounded by 3-4 defenders! Overall, very impressed with our defence but the attack side needs one or two additions!!
carterfox90 Posted 1 August 2011 Posted 1 August 2011 Kasper - 8 Pelts - 8 Bamba - 8.5 Mills - 6.5 Konchesky - 7 Abe - 7.5 Wellens - 5 Danns - 7.5 Gally - 5 Nugent - 6 Vassell - 7 Subs: SSL - 6 Ball - 6 Waggy - 6 Dyer - 7 Howard - 6.5 Johnson - 6.5 King - 6 Oakley - 6 agreed
