Only bad thing was he kicked the ball straight out of play a few times. Peltier - 7 - Defended well, not as attack minded as Naughton but solid display. Very precise header in the corner. Bamba - 8 - Rock. Also beat about 3 or 4 players in his mazy runs too. Mills - 7 - Seemed solid enough didn't stand out for me. Konchesky - 8 - Seems a very solid signing. Good defensively and a decent passer too. Abe - 7 - Worked hard all day and tackled well, although he was outmuscled on occasion. Fernandez - 8 - He never seemed to tire. Won the ball so often, decent passer, good organiser. Wellens - 7 - Got stuck in, good play acting to get the Cov player sent off! Danns - 7 - I can see why he scored 10 for Palace. A very forward minded midfielder. Almost scored twice sliding in at the back post. Vassell - N/A - Silly challenge really. Seemed energetic before he was off. Nugent - 7 - Ready to run at players but a few bad touches/stray passes. Hit the post with a header. Seemed frustrated as the lone striker. SUBS: Gally - N/A King - 7 - Looked decent, surprised he didn't start. He wasted about 5 minutes at the end in the corner! Sven - 8 - Good selection, and nice formation change when Vassel was sent off (went to the diamond). Well timed subs. Cov - 6 - Were pretty decent and had the best of the first half, even before we were down to 10. Ref - 5 - The usual.

Needs to take more command of the defence though Pelts - 8.5 - Should have got more of the ball in space out wide. Looked pacey and lively. Great to score on debut Mills - 7.5 - Solid Bamba - 8 - Even more solid Konchesky - 6 - Distribution not good,nearly got caught out a couple of times Abe - 7 - Did OK, filled in well at right back. Nothing overly special Fernandes - 9 *motm - great energy and commitment. Class act Danns - 7.5 - Very good first half, drifted out a bit second half Wellens - 7.5 - Solid Vassell - Sent off too early to rate Nugent - 7- Needs to work on fitness but could be good for us Subs King - 8 - Class above when he came on Gally - 6 - No time to influence game

Peltier - 7 - Pleased with his performance, in my opinion, as good as Naughton. Good in the air, good going forward and good defending. Bamba - 7.5 Mills - 7 Konchesky - 8 - Some decent passing. Abe - 7.5 Fernandez - 8 - Organized!! Wellens - 8 - Fantastic cross for the goal. Danns - 7.5 - Never tires. Vassell - N/A - Sent off. Nugent - 7.5 - Good running and good in the air. Pleased King and Gallagher didn't start, I don't think we missed them.

Did ok defensively Abi 6- nothing outstanding Vassell 3- needs to go back & read the rule book!! Wellens 6- nothing really happened, very clever with the sending off Fernandez 8- showed a bit of class, other midfielders take note Danns 5- another disappointing performance, expecting alot more from him. Ok keeping it short but his long balls went wayward to many times Nugent 6- being lone striker not being his strength ran out of puff. Sending off not helping him Subs Gally 5- not on for long but tried to keep the ball King 7- done well when he came on Sven tactics 5- Nugent up front on his own, not a positive formation & it seemed we stood off a poor side too much. Atmosphere 9- good all round performance by the 6000 + fans Coventry 5- looked a better side than us in the 1st half but I think that was down to us standing off them. Cov fans 1- shocking turn-out for a local derby

Dealt well with the few saves and situations that might have troubled him, usually threw the ball out constructively and certily let his team-mates know what was expected).. Peltier 8 (Includes one mark for the winnnng goal andthe rest for some unfussy but efficient defending).. Bamba 8 (The Bamba we first saw.Completely in control with a bit of finesse to surprise us). Mills 7.5 (Just quietly contributed to Coventry hardly making a threat from inside or around the area) . Konchesky 8 (Looked the part and tried to be constructive even if his weighting of the ball wasn't always right). Abe 7 (Industrious as ever but still ran into blind alleys and offered little support going forward apart from one half decent snap shot). Fernandez 8.5 (Forever involved and hardly lost a challenge). Wellens 8 (Arguably gave us our chance of winning with his contribution in getting Baker sent off. Made the goal with his free kick.) Danns 6.5 (Had chances to score but failed to get onto a couple of passes that flew untouched across the box). Vassell 0 (His recklessness might have cost us dearly). Nugent 7 (Looks so potentially dangerous but was left criminally short of support. How his header which hit the inside of a post came out I don't know and he also squandered a10-yarder but he does make such good and selfless runs. He'll be getting frustrated if we carry on as we are though cos the bloke's being wasted and our staff really don't seem to have much idea when it comes to creating things). Subs King 7 (Won the ball from unlikely situations several times, used the ball well outside the box and created a chance out of nothing by evading a couple of defenders and uncharacteristically mishitting his finish. Such a pity. It would have been another on his list of brilliant goals had it come off). Gallagher 6.5 (Did well to win a couple of high balls and make a couple of dangerous sorties which sadly came to nothing). As for Coventry, well, I was seated in their Lloydspharmacy stand and it showed how excited they al were when a youngster sitting next to me went out into the cafe concourse three times during the first half alone. He must have wondered what he'd done wrong for his mum to be so cruel as to keep dragging him back! They look doomed to relegation nd I'm a bit surprised we didn't go for more goals against them. Their fans had very little life in them and hardly said a word trooping out of the stadium.

Wellens was class and abe had his fair share same as danns! plus Sven had to put nugent up on his own after Vassell was sent off

Peltier - 7, good short passing and good goal, needs abit more experience. Bamba - 8, always seemed to mop things up at the back and some great runs. Mills - 7, needs to settle in a little more, some hesitation but still looked strong. Konchesky - 8, probably motm with fernandes. Great long balls and showed his premiership experience. Abe - 8, good short passing and won us a few corners, good positioning and showed passion. Wellens - 8, good aggression as usual and passing. Fernandes - 8, probably motm. Looks like a great signing and good going forward and keeping the ball. Also strong and good in the air. Danns - 7, same as Mills, needs to settle in but looks to be good going forward and also seems to have more passion than others. Nugent - 7, also need to settle in but seems to have his eye on goal and made some promising runs. Vassel - Unlucky.

This exactly - I was watching him often first half and he was getting very frustrated at the lack of balls coming through to him and literally NO-ONE around him when he won flick-ons

I struggle to see where else the support is going to come from. Not sure about playing Danns out wide either. Abe looked assured at right back. Fernandez was immense. Here we go. Kasper - 8 Did everything asked of him, only negative were some of his kicks but can't complain Peltier - 7 Going to struggle to match Naughton but thought he produced a solid display. Decent start considering he has stepped up a level. Bamba - 9 Superb Mills - 9 As above Konchesky - 7 Did look a little nervy but defends well. Thought our back line looked very organsised and Kasper was only really tested from long shots. Fernandez - 9 MOTM. Composed, positioning superb in possession and out of it. Abe - 8 Energetic, competetive - impressed me at right back also Wellings - 8 Typical Ritchie... Danns - 8 Solid debut. Great bit of skill at the end in the corner. Liked the celebrations too...seemed to mean a lot to him Nugent 7. Difficult once Vassel had gone but looked OK. Needs to work on his fitness a bit. Vassell -N/A silly...no malice in it tho perhaps just a bit too keen and rusty? King - 8 Superb Cameo - looked stronger on the ball and found pockets of space brilliantly. Even when he had no support he looked to go past people. Shame he didnt finish his mazy run. Team - 8 Solid, organsied. Weren't brilliant but didn't need to be. All players looked comfortable in possession

Despite his enormous kick, he seems happy to play it short, which helps. Peltier 8 - Impressed. Solid in defence and tried to offer an outlet a la Naughton, even when we were down to 10 men. Great header. Bamba 8 - One misjudged header aside, I thought he was excellent today. Mills 7 - Solid enough, and distribution seemed better today. Konchesky 7 - Similar to Peltier, but no goal. Abe 7 - Hassled and harried as usual. Did a job at right back but it's not even a medium-term option really. Fernandes 8.5 - Hardly put a foot wrong all game. Excellent short, sharp passing and was always available. Beast in the tackle. Wellens 7.5 - Great cross for Peltier's goal. He was the main culprit in the second half for slowing our intensity - he just seems to sap the pace out of every single counter-attack. Danns 7 - Again, worked hard, and a fantastic bit of play at the end when we were trying to wind the clock down. Showed a willingness to get forward but had little tangible impact on the game. Vassell 0 - A completely moronic challenge in any situation, let alone 10 minutes into a new season. Nugent 6.5 - Tried his best, and had a great header against the post. Needed to stay more central when we went down to 10 men though as whenever he went wide we had nobody central. subs: King 7.5 - Really involved for a change. Made a massive difference having a midfield player on who was always willing to gamble on a run into the box. Gallagher 4 - What was Sven thinking? If you are going to play up front on your own you have to be fast, strong, or tall (preferably all three) so you can either chase balls in behind or hold it up. Gallagher is neither of these things. Surely Dyer would have been a better option? Sven 7 - I think we got away with it a little today. Against a better team our lack of pressure on the ball in the final 20 minutes would have been exposed. I know we'd been playing with 10 men for most of the game, but we still had another sub to make.

Mills- 8 Bamba- 8 solid with couple of good runs Konchesky- 8 Abe- 7 Fernandes- 9 bossed it! danns- 7 Wellens- 8 Vassell- off to early to rate. Nugent- 8 Subs- king-9 on form looked very threatening, lacked the support at times. Gally- 7 Ref- poor decisions, poor game Linesman on the left- complete shocker! Cov- more squirrels than fans, embarrassment. When the players came to the fans at the end of the game you could see this is a tight squad who genuinely want this!!!

When we went down to 10-men, and the change of midfield to the diamond formation, did a great job of stopping the threats from the right and helped Bamba and Mills immensely, seems to have gone un-noticed Danns - 7.5 decent debut, closed down really well, seemed to tackle himself a couple times but got into some great positions... more to come from this man + loving his passion (not passion) for city already Wellens - 8 battling display from Wellens, really worked with Fernandes, great energy Fernandes - 9* Man of the match, unbelievable movement on and off the ball, weve signed a gem here Abe - 8.5 awesome display... and well played when right back made one unreal tackle! Class Vassel - too early to rate but sending off funny as anything... ref got the decision spot on Nugent - 8.5 brilliant work rate and deserved a goal, fantastic signing Subs King - 8 worked so hard and actually closed the game out for us by stretching Cov late on, good call Sven Gallacher - 7.5 people moaning about him being up front... come on now thought he did well, not really enough time to impose but still did a job that can only be described as a frustrating role being a lone striker Sven - 9.5 Class tactics, changing the midfield into a diamond formation after the sending off, restricting Coventry to bits and pieces from the wide areas and filling the middle. Also freeing up the full backs, bossed it even when Cov still had 11! Cov - 7 Not bad, no creativity whatsoever, long hard season for these guys
