Guest Col city fan Posted 8 August 2011 Posted 8 August 2011 Well done Sven for winning at Cov - defensively solid, combatitive, created some chances, restricted Cov scum to very few.... HOWEVER..... despite Nugent's effort and work-rate, which was brilliant.... he WAS isolated up top.. I was watching him often, mainly first half, and he was becoming increasingly frustrated when his flick-ons were being picked-up by literally no-one. For me, to score enough goals to win this division, we must either: a. give him some help up top by playing another striker alongside him or.... b. stick with the 4-3-3 and sign that elusive striker who will score goals out of nothing, even when isolated up top. I don't think Nugent will do this enough and would rather see him on the left wing. Don't forget we were playing a relatively poor Cov side who will do nothing this season - when we go away to the Trees, Cardiff, West Ham etc... it will be a far tougher challenge. Are we gonna side that sniffer in the box, or does the formation need to change to enable us to score more goals? Comments please

Ric Flair Posted 8 August 2011 Posted 8 August 2011 It's imperitive we get a new striker and we will do, but it's not easy bringing in the elusive striker that we need, which is a very good finisher. This 5 subs rule is a shitter an'all as we have a very big squad with plenty of defenders and midfielders and we didn't name an out and out striker on the bench on saturday. I'm convinced we need to look abroad. Forget Maynard and Long who are too pricey for what they've achieved in their careers. If the owners want a big named signing as well then i'd bollock fifty large a week at Trezeguet and open up the league like a tin of hot dogs.

Sven will be mixing it up formation wise, once we have the personnel to do so. i expect we'll play 4-4-2 when needed. Big man, little man upfront as per Sven's want or comfort. Though I've seen Nugent play well enough on the left for a 4-3-3, and he hasn't got a bad cross on him, so if we have a decently mobile new striker then it should on paper work.

Nugent did an excellent job but is isolated. New striker please and this week or else we will find we are dropping points. Problem is BCFC and Reading are holding out for a big deal at the last minute - have we the balls to wait? The offer for Jong has been refused too so do we up the offer?

cc_star Posted 8 August 2011 Posted 8 August 2011 Yes we need another vassell is your man if you need someone to dribble in to the corner flag This formation just doesn't suit gally, probably waggy too and Howard isn't a 90min player at the top end of the table We need someone of the class to match our defence/forward line which is a quality notch above what we've had probably since the Lennon/Izzet era Long & Maynard seem to fit the bill, but I'm losing confidence in our ability to jump above Bolton, WBA and WHU in the ever-growing queue for them Billy sharp is proper injured and there isn't really anyone else who fits the mould of experienced championship goal machine Seeing as we have a wealth of talent in midfield & not so much upfront I think a change of formation would be best so we can get an extra midfielder on (although none of them are wide men) and one less forward Nugent & Gally would be my pick of who's on the books, would like to see Gally have a crack far more centrally then he's been under Sven, but he's obviously not the man to lead the charge in a 4-3-3/4-5-1

I'm happy with the team at the moment. We have enough quality to win games easy. If we stumble we can always loan a few strikers in January and still save the season. It will save us a bundle......
