Stay Positive Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 I mean, don't get me wrong. I don't feel massively comfortable with him between the sticks, and am a lot happier with Schmeichel, but all our fans seem to hate the guy with a passion, which I feel is a little unfair Maybe it's because he's made a couple of colossal mistakes against bitter rivals that the vitriol stems from, BUT it wasn't THAT long ago we were all chanting that he was "England's Number One", and I remember thinking, in the season that Kermorgant destroyed for us, that he was the best keeper we'd had in ages.

Not sure that's true - it's only 6 months since every touch of the ball from Ricardo was met with the cries of "Weeeeeaaaaaaaallllllllllllle" The problem Weale has had is the consistency he showed in the Pearson championship season went missing, and the howler at Forest last season was a very public, highly symbolic error which is hard to forget....but foul on Konchesky or not, his flap on Sat against Forest reminded me of Ian Andrews at his Celtic-playing worst unfortunately...

Very good point, but I'd still say that was almost exclusively down to lost confidence though, after being effectively told by Sven that he was rubbish. Doesn't change things, of course, and I don't think he'll ever be the same keeper he was in the Pearson season, sadly. And when I say I feel sorry for him, well, admittedly I can't feel THAT sorry for someone who earns that much more than me...
sdb Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 He's a decent keeper with horribly low confidence. Feel for him but he does need to lift himself now, not rely on the fans to do it. He's messed up too many times. That said, booing our own player/s is something I detest.
C.J Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 No, he's just abit low on confidence. Just remember back to last season when RicarD'OH was playing, we were screaming Weales name.

That would be the right move for all concerned now. I agree about booing too. It doesn't help anyone. I can accept booing at the end of the match if it's been an inept performance but booing of our own players at any other time is just unacceptable.
Salieri Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 No. Hope he has a good game tonight, will do wonders for his confidence even if it is only against Bury. Still should be adequate back up for Schmeichel.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 Where have all the Weale loving chanters got to? Odd, isn't it ? /
ozleicester Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 he has managed to make a lot of money and still not be good enough..so i dont feel at al sorry

Nice one. You could equally find many great saves he has made for us during his time here.

Sure, I remember all those, but I could probably find about five times as many clips where he's kept us in the game. Not going to though, 'cause I'm at work and video sites don't work here.
Joethemightyone Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 Chris Weale is awful and cost us vs Forest! If he stayed on his line we win! Too many cock ups for me!
Guest ttfn Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 I feel really sorry for the bloke. He came in to a club which had not had a regular number 1 since Rab Douglas, so didn't have much to compete with. But for 90% of his first season he was really good. But he ****ed up big time in the play-offs and he's never been the same since. What's more he seems like a genuinely nice bloke. I even felt sorry for him when he came on the other day. With no warm up, and the City goal under siege, he was on a hiding to nothing.
accessory Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 It's ironic how those who incessantly berate Weale's foul-ups are quite happy to turn any number of blind eyes to those committed by his manager.
Super_Fox_Boy Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 Like other posters have said he may have cost us a few points but hes also saved us a fair few times. His confidence must have been shot to pieces last season after he almost single handedly won us the game against shef utd last season only to be dropped the following game for ricardo. I like Weale and he's more than adequate as a back up keeper for us.

Very very good point, you get the feeling some people would be screaming "In Sven we trust" if he put Oakley in goal. As for the original question. I lost feeling any sympathy for pro footballers years ago.
Stay Positive Posted 23 August 2011 Author Posted 23 August 2011 I'd fancy my chances against him. Well, I guess I understand where everyone's coming from, but despite defending him, I have said on this thread that I don't believe he's good enough for Leicester City anymore. Still feel a bit sorry for him though, after what happened last season. No doubt whatsoever that he needs to move on and find a new club.
Mr Happy Posted 23 August 2011 Posted 23 August 2011 Sure, I remember all those, but I could probably find about five times as many clips where he's kept us in the game. Not going to though, 'cause I'm at work and video sites don't work here. Weale has made some amazing saves to keep us in games, most notably in the games where he was under pressure for his place, e.g the games before Ricardo was signed and the games were Kirkland's name was being thrown around.
