The Year Of The Fox Posted 25 August 2011 Posted 25 August 2011 Been away from here for a couple of weeks. Been too pissed off with whats happening down Filbert Way to bring myself on here so sorry if anythings been mentioned about this before; I had a phone call today (recored messgae) from one of these lawyer firms asking whether I'd taken out Payment Protection Insurance on a personal loan before 2009. (which I had) Apparently I'm entitled to a refund as the majority of PPI was miss-sold by lenders. Does anyone know anything about it? Its on a 'no win no fee' basis so I have nothing to lose, correct? I've also approached my lender directly and am getting the paperwork sent out by them too.
DUBNBASS Posted 25 August 2011 Posted 25 August 2011 i just claimed back mine directly. check money supermarket for all the details you need to claim it back yourself why pay someone. i did mine over the phone with the issuer and got a cheque last week for£530
Webbo Posted 25 August 2011 Posted 25 August 2011 Whatever you do don't use one of those companies that phone you, they'll take 25% +vat of anything you get. Use the template on Moneysavingexpert.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 25 August 2011 Author Posted 25 August 2011 Thanks. Its not a con then?! The bird I spoke to said that the government have set aside £9bn to repay borrowers. Ill do it directly with Halifax
The Year Of The Fox Posted 11 November 2011 Author Posted 11 November 2011 Got refunded a couple of hundred quid today too. Not bad for saying I even claimed on the PPI when I was redundant
Trav Le Bleu Posted 11 November 2011 Posted 11 November 2011 So you actually used it? And then got the money back? And then you asked, "Is this a con?"
The Year Of The Fox Posted 11 November 2011 Author Posted 11 November 2011 So you actually used it? And then got the money back? And then you asked, "Is this a con?" Somebody did say its still possible to claim a refund even if you've claimed on the insurance. Had I never claimed I'd have been refunded the best part of a k. Only thought it was a con as you see all these adverts from no win no fee lawyers. Well worth looking into
Filbert_Ross Posted 11 November 2011 Posted 11 November 2011 i got £650 back from Santander, they got in touch with me first about it too.
accessory Posted 11 November 2011 Posted 11 November 2011 I know someone who got offered nearly £20000 as a refund by Lloyds TSB at the start of September. He accepted the offer, but has yet to see a penny of the money. You'd have thought Lloyds TSB would have been looking to settle these cases as soon as possible. Until they do, they'll never be able to move on.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 11 November 2011 Author Posted 11 November 2011 20k? Bloody ell! I made my claim directly to the Halifax just after I started this thread. Got the confirmation letter yesterday, so perhaps it won't be too long for your mate now?
cambridgefox Posted 11 November 2011 Posted 11 November 2011 so people want something for nothing, sums up our society,i bet the majority of people this loan insurance was offered to was explained in full.
Tielemans63 Posted 11 November 2011 Posted 11 November 2011 i got £650 back from Santander, they got in touch with me first about it too. Me too! Same amount, same bank. What really pisses me off is that to this day they've never apologised for pretty much defrauding me. They just do what the **** they want don't they? They should have been fined massively - cnuts.

Stay Positive Posted 11 November 2011 Posted 11 November 2011 so people want something for nothing, sums up our society,i bet the majority of people this loan insurance was offered to was explained in full. That's why I've never bothered reclaiming. I can't remember whether it was explained to me or not.
cambridgefox Posted 11 November 2011 Posted 11 November 2011 That's why I've never bothered reclaiming. I can't remember whether it was explained to me or not. Thats refreshing to hear, mind you if you really are not too sure i would claim as you are obviously not pulling a fast one.
Tielemans63 Posted 11 November 2011 Posted 11 November 2011 so people want something for nothing, sums up our society,i bet the majority of people this loan insurance was offered to was explained in full. The point is that PPI was supposed to be optional. I can say hand on heart that the tosser who sold me my loan never ever mentioned PPI let alone that it was optional - if Santander hadn't contacted me (because they'd been rumbled by the FSA) They hid it within my repayment charge - how ****ing sneaky is that?

I can say hand on heart that the tosser who sold me my loan never ever mentioned PPI let alone that it was optional - if Santander hadn't contacted me (because they'd been rumbled by the FSA) They hid it within my repayment charge - how ****ing sneaky is that? Very,i used to work for a high street bank many years ago and believe you me im not a fan,but perhaps times were different, but every loan insurance was explained and optional, perhaps thats what irks me as i played by the rules, dont think as much pressure was put on staff all those years ago!!!
Tielemans63 Posted 11 November 2011 Posted 11 November 2011 so you didnt have any idea about this insurance? I can honestly say I had no idea. Claiming PPI hadn't even crossed my mind until Santander wrote to me to tell me I'd been misold it! Just after they wrote to me the first time u dug up my paperwork and there's nothing even vaguely related to PPI mentioned anywhere. I have a pretty good memory and the agent who sold me my loan never mentioned PPI - I'd have more than likely agreed to it in all honesty! However, that doesn't make the deception right!
Tielemans63 Posted 11 November 2011 Posted 11 November 2011 Sorry - only saw your reply after my second reply! I'm sure this isn't indicative all bankers at all. Just a few give the many a bad name which is a real shame.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 12 November 2011 Author Posted 12 November 2011 so people want something for nothing, sums up our society,i bet the majority of people this loan insurance was offered to was explained in full. How is it something for nothing? Yes I knew about the PPI and yes I claimed on it. But its up to the banks to decide. I don't think its something for nothing, as the bank wouldnt pay someone out if they weren't owed it.
rico Posted 13 November 2011 Posted 13 November 2011 Just found some loan agreements i had back in 2003/4,think i'll be claiming on them tomorrow

Got the confirmation letter yesterday, so perhaps it won't be too long for your mate now? Yeah, he's got the money now, though apparently the bank took nearly a week to tell him the refund had been paid in. Strangely enough, the day the refund was received was also the day he rang up the Financial Services Ombudsman to register a complaint about the delay.

Sounds a right pain in the arse, couldnt he look at his account himself the lazy shit!!.
Guest Posted 1 July 2012 Posted 1 July 2012 I wouldn't trust a company who copies and pastes without proof reading. You can claim yourself, and not have to pay anything from out of your award to a third party.
ithuriel Posted 1 July 2012 Posted 1 July 2012 I might be owed something, i do not really know. Will have to take a look see through my old paperwork. These automated callers though have been doing my head in as are the real peeps that ring about it, sometimes i get home from work and 5 messages are on the answer machine about PPI. This has been going on for seven months now without let up. Then again when i hurt my hand at work 5 years ago i remember walking through town with my arm in a flexible cast and having ambulance chasing lawyers pestering me near the clock tower. They wanted me to lie basically since i could have had a claim but seeing as it was partly my fault i could not go ahead with what they were proposing, sometimes i'm to honest and prideful for my own good.
