One Arm Babba Posted 3 September 2011 Posted 3 September 2011 Lads and lasses, I have severe tooth ache and can't see a dentist until Monday morning. I'm taking codeine every 4hrs and up until 8 o'clock this evening it was giving me some sort of pain relief. But, now the tablets are doing nothing. I have oil of cloves, I have some Vodka. Any tips? I've broke bones, had a burst appendix but this is the most acute pain I have ever experienced.

In the morning you will have a massive hangover which will take your mind off of the toothache. Flawless.
GLC Posted 3 September 2011 Posted 3 September 2011 I had toothache all last week, really bad toothache, try ibroprophen and paracetamol together, it stops the pain for a while, whisky in the mouth works as well. But I will say the nhs is piss poor, my dentist is on holiday until Monday, so I had to see a different dentist Thursday just gone, he gave me some amoxicillin to take, but won't be able to take my tooth until he gets back off holiday in 3 weeks. I asked to see my dentist but because he's started treatment, she won't take the tooth out. All because he gave me drugs to take
Salieri Posted 3 September 2011 Posted 3 September 2011 I can't even get a bloody NHS dentist at the moment and am ****ed if i'm gonna pay to go private. Teeth currently resembling this :
Houdini Logic Posted 3 September 2011 Posted 3 September 2011 Emergency dentist tomorrow morning - it's not as expensive as you may think and whatever they have to do to sort your tooth, it's still the same price.
somebum Posted 3 September 2011 Posted 3 September 2011 hey man I feel your pain, If you can get hold of something called Orajel - it is a very small tube and about £5 - but you only need a small amount and it works very well - just like the dentist has stuck the needle into your gum, everything goes numb and it takes away the pain. They sell it at Wilkos, Boots, chemists - its a good stop gap.
Rincewind Posted 3 September 2011 Posted 3 September 2011 more vodka if that doesn't work try Brandy/whiskey/Gin/rum.............
stix Posted 3 September 2011 Posted 3 September 2011 Chewing on an aspirin at the 'root' cause is a temporary fix?
The Doctor Posted 3 September 2011 Posted 3 September 2011 Pull the offending tooth out with a piece of string and a door, then get drunk.
Thracian Posted 3 September 2011 Posted 3 September 2011 If the Oil of Cloves doesn't help there's this state of the art technology - if you can get hold of it! http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2011/08/110823115402.htm

Was thinking this, I'm living in Ireland and I cant track down an emergency dentist. I rang A+E and all they would do is give me painkillers. I think i'm gonna have to grin n bear it untill monday.
m00nie Posted 3 September 2011 Posted 3 September 2011 cocaine rub it in your gums.. soon go numb.. apparently
jonthefox Posted 3 September 2011 Posted 3 September 2011 I know where your coming from pal. I went on friday to get a tempory filling. It didnt hurt that much before, but i thought, y'know, go aand get it sorted. Now im friggin agony and will have to ring the cow on monday. Dentists....they know feck all.
AoWW Posted 3 September 2011 Posted 3 September 2011 Nurofen Plus was the only thing that worked for me when I had a tooth abscess, but I still had to up the dose (against recommendations) to taking one every 4 hours. Not much help, though, as they're still withdrawn from sale, I believe. I guess, working on the same idea though, alternating codeine and ibuprofen might do the trick. Oddly enough the only other 'remedy' I tried that seemed to bring any sort of relief was adding a fairly hefty amount of salt (as much as you can stand, really) to reasonably warm water - let it dissolve - then swill it around the mouth for several minutes - spit, don't swallow! Certainly won't hurt and if there is an infection may help to draw it out.
dave the caveman Posted 3 September 2011 Posted 3 September 2011 You can take codeine/ibroprufen together (you can even buy them together) and cycle those with paracetomol every three hours. Get some cordysol mouth wash to kill any infection. Worst pain ever. Good luck.
Libertine Dream Posted 3 September 2011 Posted 3 September 2011 Ive never tried this but I heard that a magnet helps. You could stick it to side of your face where the offending tooth is and see what happens!
The Doctor Posted 3 September 2011 Posted 3 September 2011 Drop a voodoo doll of a dentist on the tooth Or change all the dates on computers, phones etc. to Monday, making it Monday and so allowing you to visit a dentist.
Austin Posted 3 September 2011 Posted 3 September 2011 There's some stuff they sell in wilkinson in Corby called Orajel im sure you'll be able to pick it up at any pharmacist, I had sever toothache about a year ago, It's an amazing short term fix, although i'd still get to the dentist as soon as you can because when I eventually made it in they gave me the strongest pain killers possible.
stix Posted 3 September 2011 Posted 3 September 2011 cocaine rub it in your gums.. soon go numb.. apparently This WILL help. infact it WILL eradicate the problem. only a temporary fix though, and expensive(dependant on quality/purity this statement should in no way be connected to the acceptance that cocaine is a legal and acceptable form of eradicating aching of the tooth) Bloody decent though!!(back in the day dont judge me!!!)

Of course it will, Cocaine is an anaesthetic and was used by doctors until it was discovered to be highly addictive - Really the NHS should have kept using it and sold some on the side for addictions, hence funding itself and also reducing illegal drug trade.

Its a YES from me.
The Doctor Posted 3 September 2011 Posted 3 September 2011 Its a YES from me. People might disagree but if the major drugs were available on the NHS it would help reduce drug related crime by quite a bit. If the addicts can get the drugs "free" or for a small fee like prescriptions, they won't need to steal in order to get the money for their next fix.
