wattolcfc Posted 18 September 2011 Posted 18 September 2011 Great game? What were you lot watching? He was average. He was always going to win balls in the air today (which he has failed to do all season) against their small attack and I can't remember him playing a long ball that actually got anywhere near our men. Improvement from him but still a long way from the finished article i'm afraid.
phillthefox Posted 18 September 2011 Posted 18 September 2011 Although he won a few headers every pass forward was given away, he only seems confident going short to bamba, thought he was given the run around at time and looked out of position when tracking forwards. had it not been for bamba AGAIN we would have been 2 down at half time. hoping he improves greatly as so far not over impressed with him, not a scratch on his reading days.
martyn Posted 18 September 2011 Posted 18 September 2011 He's singled out because he's taken a lot of shit for his poor performances (deservedly), and yesterday was much improved on what went before. There is a long way to go, nobody is thinking he's the next Bobby Moore after a half decent performance, but people were very quick to make threads ripping him to bits... did you complain then? I agree, a player can't be universally judged and labelled after 1 or 2 performances, but one can judge a player's individual performance on any given day. Please don't confuse the 2. For me, a slightly improved showing does not warrant the level of praise some have levelled upon Mills here. Irrespective of whether he has been pilloried before, I don't agree with championing mediocrity. As I have said before, I'm hopeful that Mills will improve and will be happy to join in with praise should it be deserved.
martyn Posted 18 September 2011 Posted 18 September 2011 Strange opinion? I thought he had a massive improvement Kepped it simple won 90% of his headers and yes he had a couple of stray passes however he was a million times better than he was wen he first arrived . Onwards and upwards! Blue army! 'Strange' because my opinion is different to yours? You think he played well, I beg to differ on this occasion (1st half particularly).
crisp packet Posted 18 September 2011 Posted 18 September 2011 He is our player slagging him off ain't going to make him any better , it's not his fault WE PAID 'x'for him. Rising too '5 so called ' million ?????? ( who knows???) Just back him as I said he's our Matt mills now!!! He can't Pass ?? That's why he plays centre back for fooooks sake !!! ' head it and kick it ' ' corners ' That's a centre backs job ...... Bamba does the rest ... with two ' playing c.bs I give u bamba and bruma , great going forward positionally all over the place. Mills 'head and kick it' bamba 'Can play' In a way I am glad the transfer window has closed as sol bamba is p.l class and I feel his head maybe have been turned !
Walshy5 Posted 18 September 2011 Posted 18 September 2011 Whilst i believe that a defenders prioity is to defend i thought the reason we sold Jack Hobbs was because he wasnt a good enough footballing CB. Matt Mills is no better of a footballer and he,s over 4 million pounds more expensive. It doesnt add up for me.
LukeyZade Posted 18 September 2011 Posted 18 September 2011 Nuff said, some great headers and blocks today. along with Bamba, Peltier and Konchesky i thought we were good value for the clean sheet. Peltier over pantsil any day
kiwifox6 Posted 19 September 2011 Posted 19 September 2011 i wonder what people will say when Beckford latches on to one of his long balls and scores.....
Dicko Posted 19 September 2011 Posted 19 September 2011 Mills was excellent, and I don't know why people are on his case for his distribution. He knows his limitations, and will ordinarily look to play a simple pass to Bamba or one of the midfielders, and the only time he goes for a long pass is when he doesn't have an option, and in that case i'd rather he banged it long than dally in possession waiting for an opening. We aren't Barcelona. Defensively, he's good in the air, got a great eye for a tackle (he's made a number of challenges that could be deemed "risky" in going to ground but he's good enough to time them right and win the ball), and also reads the game well which I don't think he gets enough credit for. The clean sheet will do all the defenders the world of good confidence-wise, Mills included.
Izzet is God Posted 19 September 2011 Posted 19 September 2011 Didn't have an amazing game...was fairly solid though which is how he should be performing consistently! His distribution was very poor but he's overall game was good enough, nothing exceptional but I was more impressed with the likes of Bamba and Konchesky on Sat. At least he looked more comfortable than previous
panky and our gang Posted 19 September 2011 Posted 19 September 2011 Though I agree Mills should not be praised in particular for his performance on Saturday, I think we should be at least pleased that he seems on that showing to be playing a bit more like the player he was at Reading . I know it is an old cliché but good players don't become bad players over night . Lets hope this match helped him turn the corner and go on to be the player he was at Reading for us .
Houdini Logic Posted 19 September 2011 Posted 19 September 2011 Certainly an improvement, but would have been his fault if the CMS goal went in - caught napping
LCFC BEAST Posted 19 September 2011 Posted 19 September 2011 It's also not his fault WE payed 5 million for him! It's harder for him to now live up to the expectation of his price tag, just like Andy Carroll for Liverpool.
Head Honcho Posted 19 September 2011 Posted 19 September 2011 He was brilliant, did nothing wrong, best we have been at the back all season. With Cardiff having 26 shots on target last Saturday let's hope he has a couple good games on Wednesday and Sunday
