DorsetFox9 Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 Nuff said, some great headers and blocks today. along with Bamba, Peltier and Konchesky i thought we were good value for the clean sheet.
broughtonblue Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 definately his best game for us, actually seemed to have a good understanding with bamba today, onwards and upwards
Guest ttfn Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 Don't see it I'm afraid. If we want to be a progressive team, we need people who can play football. Mills is clearly a good defender, but he's not a footballer. Early days though; I hope to be proved wrong.
acooling08 Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 He was pretty dominant in the air, but his distribution was poor, especially first half.
Happy Fox Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 He didn't make any of those long passes from what I recall kept it nice and simple, had a solid game winning majority of headers, hopefully he will go on strength to strength now
Callabinho Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 He is a good defender and today he proved it! Thought he had a cracking game!
martyn Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 For £4.5 million, I want more than headers and blocks. DIstribution was shocking, particularly first half and Bamba bailed him out on a couple of occasions where he got drawn forward to the ball, lost out, and then was hopelessly out of position. I'm certain he'll get better, but he does not deserve to be congratulated for his showing today, he was amongst our poorer performers.

Yeah he should be getting at least 3 a game from centre half, cos he cost 4.5 million quid.
ozleicester Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 Would whoever has stolen the real Foxestalk, and replaced it with this positive clone.. please look after it until our next loss.

There you go, your hopes have been realised.

LCFC BEAST Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 Who cares if he cost £4-£5 million pounds?! It's not your money being spent, it's the owners, of whom bought him to do the job and today he did that brilliantly. Yes his distribution is bad but I thought we all wanted to stop the long balls up top? You can't complain about something that he does if no one wants it done in the first place. Give him and Bamba time and they will form a solid partnership. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither is their partnership. Great day today Millsy and hoping for more of the same!

Mills is being congratulated here for making 'headers and blocks'. Defenders like that are 10 a penny and while I do see the point about the fee being inconsequential, I think it's natural to expect slightly more from your centre half who has commanded such an inflated fee. Reading of the game, pace (over short and long distances) and distribution are also facets of a centre half's game and I've yet to see evidence that Mills has any of these. His distribution today wasn't based on long hoofs, the problems emanated from Mills attempting to clip numerous balls into the feet of our strikers and expertly picking out a Brighton shirt on at least 4 occasions. I hope Mills and Bamba do form a solid partnership, and no doubt Mills will improve, however, in no way does he deserve to be singled out for praise today.
Lambert09 Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 Very harsh IMO, think his distribution was bad for the first 15 but bambas was a lot worse...he played 2 superb long balls, unfortunately the strikers didn't bring them down. The headers he won today were vital...just because they wernt last ditch nobody notices. He won a lot of balls that he would be forgiven for not winning. Which I think massively helped the clean sheet. Could be the confidence boost he needed.
Simmo86 Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 Apart from a shaky first 10-15 mins thought he was a rock today. Made another fantastic block in the 2nd half just like he did against Soton. Him and Bamba look more of a partnership today

If people can criticise him after his first appearance, then in all fairness they can give him some praise on his first decent showing too. Can't have it both ways!

Guest shearfox Posted 18 September 2011 Posted 18 September 2011 He was brilliant, did nothing wrong, best we have been at the back all season.
skinnydipper Posted 18 September 2011 Posted 18 September 2011 Thought he got better as the game went on but he got caught flat footed on a number of occasions, most notably when Mackail- Smith missed from 3 yards Still, better than earlier performances and hope the improvement continues

I want him to do well but could you really see the guy in the premiership? If he has been brought just to get us out of this league then its a costly purchase, its his duty to win headers, make tackles, and blocks, and for 3.5m to 5m depending on which source you believe, you would expect a better reading of the game, some classier distribution, a word in the ref's ear once in a while, some gee'ing up of team mates and the odd goal here and there, fair play to the lad I can't argue with a clean sheet but take Sol out of the equations and partner him with St Ledger I wonder how many would be as confident then.
Babylon Posted 18 September 2011 Posted 18 September 2011 Mills is being congratulated here for making 'headers and blocks'. . In no way does he deserve to be singled out for praise today. He's singled out because he's taken a lot of shit for his poor performances (deservedly), and yesterday was much improved on what went before. There is a long way to go, nobody is thinking he's the next Bobby Moore after a half decent performance, but people were very quick to make threads ripping him to bits... did you complain then?

I thought he had a massive improvement Kepped it simple won 90% of his headers and yes he had a couple of stray passes however he was a million times better than he was wen he first arrived . Onwards and upwards! Blue army!
Alpha Gifts & Awards Posted 18 September 2011 Posted 18 September 2011 Some people just take time to settle, new area, team etc, etc. Personally, looks like he's trying to hard and should rain the long passes in for now, until he feels more at home in his new surroundings etc. Just lay it off short fella, and you'd have had a great time today ). Patience!
