Mike the Metal Ed Posted 23 September 2011 Posted 23 September 2011 http://sport.stv.tv/...at-celtic-park/ Celtic have begun a study into the feasibility of bringing standing sections back to top-flight football. Scottish Premier League stadia have been all-seated since 1994 but STV has learned that the possibility of introducing a standing section to Celtic Park is being investigated. Letters have been issued to Celtic shareholders ahead of their AGM in mid-October and among proposed resolutions is a proposal by the Celtic Supporters Trust, though not the directors, to make alterations to the ground The proposal details supporters thoughts on the issue and points out both social and financial benefits for supporters. A response from the board within the document confirms that steps are already being taken to consider the viability of such a move. It reads: "The Board welcomes the Trust's interest in this issue and is pleased to confirm that a feasibility study is already underway, under the direction of the Chief Executive." Although law currently prevents standing areas for top flight clubs in England and Wales, there is no such legislation in Scots law. However, Scottish Premier League rules currently prevent standing within grounds in their competition. STV understands that eight of the 12 member clubs would have to vote in favour of a change to the rules on the issue but should Celtic's study return positive conclusions the matter may be put before the League. It's a while off yet, but if this could work in the SPL, then it could shoot down a lot of the all-seater myths in the English leagues.
Mack Posted 23 September 2011 Posted 23 September 2011 OK to the standing, but the top flight football is missing!
The Doctor Posted 23 September 2011 Posted 23 September 2011 OK to the standing, but the top flight football is missing! You clearly don't watch Scottish football and just base your opinions on the old firm games and what crap journalists say. It's not premiership standard, I don't think anyone would seriously claim that, but it's nowhere near as bad as you think.

Thats why Inverness have Lee Cox, Jonny Hayes and Billy McKay as well as Eric Odhiambo previously playing for them. I'm fed up of this Scottish football argument - you have Celtic and Rangers who are currently imo Championship standard sides and then you have the rest who span from lower Championship to Blue Square. Before you argue that Celtic and Rangers would be good Premiership teams, did they not get knocked out of Europe? Did Hearts (supposedly 3rd best team in Scotland) get trounced by Spurs reserves? Did Celtic not lose to a minnow Swiss team and as for Rangers? I can't remember who either. This is all whilst a championship Birmingham proceeded. I caught a bit of the Hibs match last weekend on ESPN and it was like watching sunday league football - awful control, no skill, just unbearable football to watch. Makes me laugh that Shamrock are in Europe and Rangers are not.
ajthefox Posted 23 September 2011 Posted 23 September 2011 A Scottish football team are trying to make headway on standing and 4 posts in it's already descending into a "how good is Scottish football?" debate. Fooking brilliant. Lets just completely ignore the actual story in that this could potentially be very significant with regard to how we watch the game in the future.
purpleronnie Posted 23 September 2011 Posted 23 September 2011 It could happen in scotland due to the difference in laws, it will never happen in england unfortunately. They seem to allow their ultra group to stand without hassle so its not a huge leap to introduce standing areas, they seem to be one of the few clubs who listen to their fans.

A complete revival of standing areas in Scotland could spark demand for a change in the law here, it's an easier sell to say that it works in Scotland than to say it works in Germany because of the UK's inherent mistrust of anything "forrin".

And to the fella moaning the reason I mentioned it was the article said 'top flight football' in association with Celtic. That is laughable.

It could, but I very much doubt it.
