iancognito Posted 4 October 2011 Posted 4 October 2011 If we're talking performances on the pitch then Junior Lewis though there's a few in the Hall Of Shame. Alan Paris (summed up the Pleat era) Mark Bright (it wasn't racial abuse Mark, it was just abuse, you were crap) Lee Morris (not that he ever made it on the pitch) Brian "Scary" Carey (What's the opposite of commanding defender?) Zelko Kalac (Joke figure and he continues to be just as steady to this day) I also have some bad memories of Ian Andrews in goal in the mid 80s but a few people have said in the past he was quite decent on his day, so I'll reserve judgement on that.
kimsalabim Posted 5 October 2011 Posted 5 October 2011 Matt mills or Yakubu. Matt Mills? Are you serious? Were you even at Saturdays game? One should think before posting, as anything you do say could be admissible as evidence in making you look a complete tw*t.
lcfc_sam_p Posted 5 October 2011 Posted 5 October 2011 Kimsalabim..why don't you read every post in the thread? If you had you'd realise it isn't me making myself a complete tw*t. You've had a stinker. Whooooooshhhh.
lcfc_sam_p Posted 5 October 2011 Posted 5 October 2011 Love how you pick the matt mills comment out and not yakubu either haha! Deary me.
nuttytimmy Posted 5 October 2011 Posted 5 October 2011 Some, err, interesting responses here. For me it has to be either Wise or Akinbyie (purely for the inflated price we P***r T****r paid)
Schlupp Posted 5 October 2011 Posted 5 October 2011 In my generation it's got to be either Carl Cort or Akinbyie,DJ is up there thou.Don't agree with the Wayne Brown shouts he was a good player for us,What he said was disgracefull but on the pitch he was very solid.
accessory Posted 5 October 2011 Posted 5 October 2011 One was the one we all heard about what Brown said and the other was that Brown was being constantly riled by a couple of players in the dressing room all year with stuff that went beyond banter so he pretty much snapped and whilst going for someone said some things to have a go back. I promised the player who told me the second version I would never tell anyone so no chance of me putting it on a public forum! Whether provoked or not, he escalated the dispute with team-mates to a level it should never have reached. Once he brought race into it, there was no way back for him. He was unprofessional and disrespectful.

poggypogpog Posted 9 October 2011 Posted 9 October 2011 Akinbiyi - £5,500,000 over 11 league goals = £500,000 per goal. Take into account a probable £15k a week wage and signing on fee and you have a VERY bad buy. Roughly works out as £641,818 a goal. Oh dear. Thank God Mr Taylor made up for it with Junior Lewis.

Rhysm Posted 10 October 2011 Posted 10 October 2011 Akinbyi for the money was a terrible player - remember him being nutmegged from a throw in once. Matt Jones and Darren Eadie were both unlucky with injuries but were expensive none the less so also represent bad buys. Gunlaugsson and Dj were both expensive and unfancied by the manager so also represented bad buys. .... then there are the players who even at free transfers represent bad "buys". I still hold that it was Kevin Pressmans fault that Micky Adams lost his job. Adams obviously thought he would be ok back up to Ian Walker, but when he had that stretch in the side some of the goals he conceded were a joke - his que de gras being the lob from the opposing goalie.

I remember getting bladdered at a club (either Zoots or Crystals) and seeing Brian Carey sitting on a bollard outside once. I pointed at him and said, very loudly, and in a terribly patronising way "F***ing hell, it's Brian Carey". Honestly, the way I said it, I may as well have said "You're SHIT mate!". He looked at me as though he was going to shove a broken beerglass in my face, but thankfully kept his cool instead. A week later, I saw Iwan Roberts at a club, tickling girls with a feather as they walked by. Everyone was going up to him and saying "Score a hat trick for us this weekend Iwan". And he did.
CupidStunt Posted 10 October 2011 Posted 10 October 2011 who would be O'Neills worst signing? spider kalac, and that gay bald bloke, arnur
Stay Positive Posted 10 October 2011 Author Posted 10 October 2011 spider kalac, and that gay bald bloke, arnur McGhee signed Kalac, I thought?
CupidStunt Posted 10 October 2011 Posted 10 October 2011 Mcghee signed Kalac?, hmm, maybe your right I take that back, but he was still s h i t
Stay Positive Posted 10 October 2011 Author Posted 10 October 2011 Mcghee signed Kalac?, hmm, maybe your right I take that back, but he was still s h i t Agreed. But let's face it - he got us promoted, causing all that confusion amongst the Palace players!
CupidStunt Posted 10 October 2011 Posted 10 October 2011 Aye, maybe, but i remember the cup game against Bolton i think it was, where he cost about 3 goals iirc, and we lost 4-3 at home?
Stay Positive Posted 10 October 2011 Author Posted 10 October 2011 Aye, maybe, but i remember the cup game against Bolton i think it was, where he cost about 3 goals iirc, and we lost 4-3 at home? Yeah. I was there for that as well. He played the grand total of 2 games for us before that play-off final and let 6 goals in, 5 of which were entirely his fault.
Tielemans63 Posted 10 October 2011 Posted 10 October 2011 What about our other record signing - £360,000 waste of space Mark Blake? He was fooking terrible.
Guest Col city fan Posted 10 October 2011 Posted 10 October 2011 Lee Marshall... Another ridiculous Peter Taylor bit of nonsense. At least we sold him for what we paid.. 750k

We did manage to, somehow, re-coup 2.2million for him! As for the Gunnlaugsson shouts how much did we pay for him? I don't remember him being that bad. He was always one of our first penalty takers in those shoot-outs that took us to Wembley as well, so for that alone he would rank above the likes of Wise, Akinbiyi, Lewis, Low and the hoardes of dross such as Andy Johnson that we had to put up with for a few seasons. It's amazing looking back how there was always the belief/hope that we could push for a play-off place with the likes of Josh Low and Darren Kenton rocking up on frees and with Rad Douglas in goal
samlcfc1 Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 Peter Gilbert, luigi glombard, marco Ferreira, Rufus brevett and joe hammill were all pointless can't say they were crap because they probably share less than 10 apps between them
Corky Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 Gunlaugsson was always the first to take a penalty in the many shoot-outs we had in 2000 and scored each time. Plus he scored some great goals.
