Still yet to get in to the top 6 under Sven

I agree with Thracian but I'm not being funny here, if we did all of those things - we'd beat Barcelona. We're in the Championship, there's simply no way we'll be able to buy a team that'd be able to cover all of those qualities. However, I love his thinking.

The whole Sven/anti-Sven argument. Lets face the facts.

We're not winners, 4-4-3, pathetic for a team with this much spent on it.

We still don't know our best system - despite having not too far off our own pick of this league and even some of the Premiership's players.

We haven't tried to win an away game all season. Sven "fear of failure is the greatest barrier to success", nice one, I agree, so why does he fear failure?

Say what you like, last year, we assembled a strong side. I don't want to hear this gelling nonsense, our team last year could've made the top 6, even with Sousa's early faltering.

We hide behind the facts. You can say a few things which makes us sound brilliant, I could've gone "we were unbeaten in 7, hadn't conceded in 4 games all against top 6 sides, we've beaten 3 of the top 6". Statistically, we can sound good. Realistically, we're completely ordinary.

What do I see for the future? Not a lot, a repeat of last season. Even if we win 7-0 tomorrow, it changes nothing for me, what if we do win 7-0, and then take a negative mentality to West Ham? And go for the 0-0, and lose? We're back to square one. Tomorrow as far as I'm concerned, anything but a win is a disaster, it's Bristol all over again. If we went to somewhere like West Ham and won, I'll give my big praise, we're not particularly expected to win there, but even if we win comfortably tomorrow I'm not going to get carried away in the slightest because I know full-well we could back it up with more negative shit.

How true, we must pick up 6 points from these home games, Watford and Milwall are poor so if we don't there is no hiding place and no more excuses we are not at the start of the season anymore guys the honeymoon is over!!!

i wanna see yuki attempt a few freekicks if he's on the pitch. by most accounts he's got a beaut on him and he cant do much worse than konchesky is. all our set pieces seem to be dog shit atm.

All to early for this malarky still.

A win tonight won't get us in the top six yet we will be two points off auto promotion second place slot.

Calm down Dears.

I have always wanted to play with more width rather than as we do, however without any real wingers with a cross on them it's not gonna happen.

Quality of free kicks has been gash too - konchesky may need a rest from this responsibility.

I'm hoping SsL has a good game tonight otherwise I want big T in there.

Completely agree, I mean until a bit of nice work by Beausejour getting the penalty and Mills getting sent off, we looked comfortable, not great but neither did Birmingham. If we could have nicked a draw or even a late win for example the same at Cardiff away, when Vassell should have scored we would be top 6.

Bit harsh to blame it on Sven it is a tough league! Think we will start gelling and our depth of squad will help us come further down the seaqson.

But facing the facts the money spent, if we do not get into the PL Sven will be sacked IMO has been financially backed and has to deliver the goods!

So would you be one of those who says the league places are misleading at this 'early' stage? Yet you're using league points as an argument?

In any case, how do you propose we make up those 5 points on West Ham playing the way we are? Especially if we go to Upton Park and play negatively again and lose (which is quite likely)?

My concerns are more down to performances than anything else. This unbeaten run stuff is an argument that merely papers over the cracks of an underperforming team. Anyone watching our away games and thinking we are promotion contenders is deluded.

We WILL need to be better away if we want to go up, performance and points wise.

Yep, can't see what the problem with that is. It's misleading because the margins are so thin and there's so many points to play for. The fact that before last night's games we were in the position I mentioned merely illustrates that. Two wins from the next two and we could in theory be second. Equally, two losses from our next two and Watford could have caught up with us (who are currently sitting in 21st).

And no, I don't think that with our current attitude we'll be storming to the top of the league. But on current form we will certainly climb the table, and I truely believe that most of the issues will be addressed over the course of the season. This isn't out of blind love for Sven, but unlike some, I do believe he's had a positive impact here, and he's certainly not stupid enough to recognise the faults in our performances (you only have to listen to his post-match interviews to realise that) and fix them (compare last season's defence to this one, as a prime example). Plus, I've seen enough from us this season to suggest that if we can get a bit of consistency and produce the kind of performances we know we can (Derby, first halves against Forest and Southampton) on a regular basis, then there's no reason why we won't be up there challenging for automatic promotion. But that's just me...

With money we have spent anything less than 6th place will ultimately be a failure end of.

Everyone knows this.

The manager and players know what is required, it's up to them to show what they can do.

We've had three or four good chances now to get into the play-offs positions and failed every time when others draw you have to be winning simple as. Play-offs at best this season unless we win five or six on the bounce and get ourselves up there which come on were leicester we never do that!

The most frustrating thing for me is knowing we have the quality in depth and the potential to beat anyone in this league home or away :frusty:

Well, that's all good and dandy but still only theoretical talk - it's what you can produce on the day that matters.

We were 2nd after the first game this season. Fact.

Not a fact, we were 7th. One team won 3-0, one won 3-1, 3 won 2-1, and Blackpool matched our result but were portrayed as 6th based on the B being before our L !!

We could however be 2nd on Saturday if results go our way and we score a few goals !!

i.e. TRY to score a few goals, not get to 2 and then go into 45 mins of square passing mode

Not true, we kicked off before most of them so when our game finished we were second.

I stand corrected !! So we were in the top 6 for about 3 hours under Sven then i guess !

First game of the season, lunchtime kickoff, put us 2nd.

Your point's invalid bro.

And 8th is a good place to be, its those above us who feel the pressure and can slip up. I was pulling my hair out in a frost covered car last night listening to the moaners after a good result based on an uneventful but by no means awful second half.

As opposed to the likes of King, St Ledger, Wellens, Beckford etc, who have shown time and again they can take pressure in their stride..

A target of 6 points this week was an absolute must, and we failed to reach it. Even worse, we played two of the divison's bottom four sides, at home, and ended up with a net goal difference of MINUS ONE.

Not good enough.

I don't think anyone has anything to be concerned about, there is nothing in this league. We(Leeds) have been out the top 6 for most of this season, we were going up and down the table like a Yoyo before finally settling into 5th with a game in hand, simply put there is nothing between any of the teams, a win from Leicester and a couple of losses and draws for the people above will have you in striking distance of the top 6, and another win after that will have you in the playoff spots.

Being in the top 6 now means nothing, see Brighton, a consistant performance, and the winning mentallity will matter when it comes to pushing for the playoffs. Winning this league is like running a marathon, you can sprint out and run out of steam, or you can slowly but surely overtake those ahead of you.
