accessory Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 Good luck Sven, such a great bloke The guy in your avatar (one of several knifed by "nice guy" Sven during his time here) wouldn't think so..
StarFox Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 We all forget, it's not all about the results but the journey there. Sven has been an amazing part of this journey and I'm a little sad to see him go. As someone already mentioned, Sven really did care about this project so I wish him all the best in the future. :sge:
topharry123 Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 A 'couple' of trophies in the 90s... come on! He's won trophies in four different decades! His trophy cabinet compares to the best of managers. His pedigree cannot be questioned. His recent achievements aren't to be sniffed at either. He got Man City to their highest Premier League finish at the time and qualified for Europe, how's that not an achievement? If Newcastle fade away and still finish in the top ten, qualifying for Europe, surely that'd be classed as an achievement. His time with England has been discussed to death. You've chosen to focus on the negatives, but his record speaks for itself. You might think England should have gotten further than the quarters he led them to, and indeed they were slightly unfortunate not to, but a whole lot of others realise that this was a very respectable achievement. I would not say that England lost to inferior sides in any of those encounters, quite on the contrary. His time with Mexico was rubbish, absolutely rubbish for whatever reasons, I'll grant you that. With the Ivory Coast he was only there for the WC, they had nothing to lose and considering the short time he had with them, he got some respectable results with them too. He hasn't gotten much credit for taking us from bottom to the brink of the playoffs with a squad peppered with loanees either. His critics have instead focused on his failure to finish in the top six once we got into contention. Lastly, I do think it's odd that you say you 'like' someone you consider a 'con man with a myth of a reputation'. As said above, it could just as easily be argued that he got as much out of the team as they were worth. Why a semi-final should've been reached, I really don't understand. They got into a good position on more than one occasion, but they weren't favourites in any of those games. I think his performance last season got people (like me) to believe that with preparation and the freedom to largely get the players he wanted on perm's, we could've had a succesful season. He has basically assembled a whole new team, and I don't care what the players, fans or media say. You cannot guarantee that a new team has gelled to produce consistent results after just 13 games or 3 months. Especially when players like Beckford, Nugent, Mills and Johnson, all of whom are vital cogs in this team, have missed large chunks of the pre-season/season for various reasons. I don't think results have been satisfactory on the whole, but I also think he and his team should've been given more time. Excellent post in every single way. I 100% agree with everything that you have written. I like what he did with England, he got us to 3 quarter finals in a row and 2 losses on penalties and one to the winners of the tournament isn't exactly a bad way to go out. Had the penalties or the game against 10 men been against teams other than an excellent Portugese side or a Brazilian side full of talent then ok maybe we could look back and say that we should have won at least one of them. However, let's not forget that Sol Campbell scored a goal against Portugal in 2004 that would have taken us through had it not been disallowed, or that Rooney was sent off in 2006 leaving us with 10 men for well over an hour so had things not gone against us then he could easily have gotten us a little further in one tournament and so many more people would be more upset about him being sacked. My point is that you can judge Sven on what he didn't do for England, but in the grand scheme of things the reason he did not do better in 2 of the tournaments were no fault of his own. I'm babbling on but i will miss Sven and I wish him all the best. I just hope that our owners will have a little more patience with whoever comes in next.
Guest Col city fan Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 Great theory, tell that to your manager tomorrow morning. Hehe lol
hairy Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 Gutted. If we had won on Saturday we would be in the top 6.
tomtom Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 He'll end up in the prem next , possibly with blackburn and be a success ....proving the moronic boo boys wrong ! Good luck Sven , your a true gent and acted with charm and dignity at all times, including when being confronted by the twat stringer after the news had broke
Stay Positive Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 Thanks for everything Sven. The most ridiculous sacking I've ever witnessed at Leicester City. Can't help wondering whether, if we'd currently been 7th, but still 2 points behind the play-offs and only 5 behind 2nd, the owners might have been more lenient. I honestly think it's that "13th place" thing that's worried them. Anyway, I hope Sven goes on to prove all the naysayers wrong at another club. I really do believe he will, too.
flowwolf Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 Yes thanks a lot for those wonderful home games this season especially Reading Bristol and Milwall ,I shall never forget those games when I think of you. :crylaugh: :crylaugh: :crylaugh: I wish someone would stick a million quid in my hands and tell me "your sacked " Get a bloody grip you lot . Appreciation my arse.
Raj Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 Theres about 10 teams within reach of the play offs!! Wish folk would stop going on about how close we were to them We never actually got into them in Svens reign. Im sure all the other teams are thinking the same....we aint got a god given right to be in the top 6 you know!
VinceNoir Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 Well gutted about this I'm fearing that this will be last season all over again. Some guy will inherit Svens squad and probably bring in a bunch of his own loan signings. Can't believe he's been sacked. I was at a training session in Leicester on Friday and met Sven. He seemed happy and took his time to speak to everybody, the players all seemed please too as did Faz. And we're only two points off the play-offs. What a joke. Goodbye, Sven. I hope you get a huge compensation for this.
ian the fox Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 Dont think some players were giving 100% truth be known , they let Sven & the fans down , I personally never really felt Sven would lead us back to the Prem ...........Just a feeling I always had , Last season was a lie , big wins at home , pathetic losses to poor sides away the following week But I liked him as a man and wish him luck
gjp Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 He was not given enough time. Win 3 or 4 in this league and your top or there abouts. I am really worried who we get in now and some of the names like Davies ffs who are being mentioned ! I wish Sven all the best and thank him for his efforts and the extra publicity he got the club.
m4DD0gg Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 Cheers Sven thanks for the 4-0 Derby match was brilliant to watch. Gutted your gone and appreciate what you tried to do at City. The players have let you down. Shame you could not have gone upstairs at DOF.
pablos111 Posted 25 October 2011 Posted 25 October 2011 The most ridiculous knee jerk sacking of a manager I can recall. 3 games ago we are unbeaten in x, on a run of clean sheets and all was looking well. We've had a blip where luck hasn't been with us (ok we didn't play great either but unlucky key events turned the games) and then arguably one of the highest profile managers in the world gets the sack having spent a whole load of money on very decent players (many of whom may not have signed were he not at the helm). New Manager, will want new players when what we need is stability - to make a team out of the very decent players we have got and it was starting to happen - maybe a little 2 steps forward, one step back but slowly the very talented individuals he signed were becoming a team. I judge Sven from the start of this season and having bought a whole new team, I think we are in a bloody good position at this stage against teams that have played together for years bar minor changes. As the season progresses, the size of our squad would have come into it's own as other teams struggle with injuries etc whilst we continue to gel and get better Not now, new manager = new ideas, new formation , new favorites , new starting 11 for x games until the best one is determined, new loanees no doubt, playing with another manager's team. it's a vicious effin circle and I for one am completely fed up ! Good luck Sven! Thanks for everything! I didn't agree with everything you did but I don't have the pedigree, fantastic CV, and experience you have and I apologise for the way you have been treated! All the best - I for one am gutted you have gone! Couldn't agree more!
