dannythefox Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 Had a bit of time to think about this and though I still hope MON gets the gig I do have some reservations.... 1) Does he still have the hunger to manage at this level? When he joined us first time he was still trying to prove himself, he's done a hell of a lot since - if he's swayed by the offer of a huge contract is he coming for the right reasons? 2) If he's treating LCFC as a stop-gap between now and Spurs / United / England job - surely that's not good for us?Say he got us promoted this season and left half way through next we'd be in the position of needing a new manager once again. If MON is to return he needs to be 100% committed otherwise he won't really be doing us any favours. There's no point giving someone the job who sees it as a short term position. He wont take the job if he's not 100% committed.

There's no point giving someone the job who sees it as a short term position. 1) He's a professional, I don't think he'd be here solely for the money. Yes it might be a contributing factor but does the MON you remember do things by half or just for money? No. If he comes he'll be fully committed. 2) I couldn't care less if he uses us as a stop gap. Have you not seen how hard we've found it to get back to the Premiership over the last few years?! All we need is someone to get us there, and asap, and with these owners I don't think we'll look back. What would you rather: MON comes and gets us up and leaves for one of those jobs halfway through next year, or he doesn't and we don't go up and the Thais do one?! No brainer for me. We'd be a very attractive proposition to prospective managers in the Premiership and would stand a very good chance of getting a more than adequate replacement. Come for the short-term, come for the long-term but please, please, please MON... COME!
Tielemans63 Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 We'll have to agree to disagree on the last point. I honestly wouldn't want him here if he's only planning on being here a year - honestly I wouldn't. I think if you're in it for the short term then you're not really fully committed are you? How can you be if you were constantly on the look-out for a bigger job? I think it would be a bigger blow for the club than you are anticipating if he came and then buggered off soon after. Short term- ism rarely results in sustained success. Don't get me wrong - I'd love to see him back here but I think he should be coming with a 3/4 year plan at least. I actually don't think he will come because he knows his heart won't be fully in it. More than happy to be proven wrong though!
Kitchandro Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 I don't see MON as a long term appointment. If he had any success at us, the bigger clubs would remember what a great manager he was and would go for him. TBH, I always thought he wasn't bothered about another job unless it was a really big one.

IF he came here for the short-term then he'd have to do well to get that bigger job. O'Neill returning is not risk-free for him. What happens if he comes and does even worse than Sven, with the squad and the money we have? Are Spurs, Sunderland etc really going to want him then?! No matter how long he's looking at being here his outlook would have to be that success were imperative for whatever period he were here. I have no problems with someone having that outlook. All we need is someone to get us to the Prem and things will really happen from there. If we don't get there, the Thais won't stick around with us in the Championship forever and that is the biggest threat to LCFC currently, not how long someone's our manager. Granted, it's not ideal to be chopping and changing manager but Leicester City as a Premiership club is a whole lot more attractive to a bigger group of prospective managers than Leicester City in the Championship with owners that are demanding promotion sooner rather than later, with the consequence of losing your job if this isn't achieved.
seanswhisper Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 I do not know where you're all getting your info from on On Mon in talks. http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11712/7267155/Foxes-yet-to-contact-O-Neill
themotivator Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 last updated 4:15..... on a 48hour timescale, thats a long time ago mate...
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 Isn't this from an interview Sky did earlier today? 12 hours is a long time in football, plus the things said are pretty generic chairman speak for when they're looking to appoint a new man. Do you have anything else other than this to back up your opinion?
Ilkeston_Fox Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 That was at quarter past 4, I think it's been said that MON has been talking to the club from around 7pm onwards....
ARM1968 Posted 26 October 2011 Posted 26 October 2011 I doubt there have actually been talks!! All seems a bit lackIng in business sense to sack Sven with no one in line to replace him. However I think that's the case!!
