PaulMcCartneysLoveChild Posted 22 November 2011 Posted 22 November 2011 Rangers are in a seriously bad position financially, but if they accepted any bid I reckon Jelavic would turn it down. His agent would no doubt be looking for a top 10 EPL club, anything less than that would be a stepping stone to a larger club. Jordan Rhodes is a far cheaper option who I think would stay at a club like Leicester (ie Championship) for far longer.

It depends where we are in the league, come the end of Christmas if we are in the top 4 then I think Jelavic may be tempted to come.
Tommeh Posted 22 November 2011 Posted 22 November 2011 He can **** off, 'club like Leicester' Completely goes against Pearsons way of working anyway. Beckord, Nuge with Howard and Schupp as the plan B is more than good enough for this league.
Tielemans63 Posted 22 November 2011 Posted 22 November 2011 Isn't the guy like Croatian mafia or something? We could pair him with Beckford and have the league's most gangster forward line.
PaulMcCartneysLoveChild Posted 22 November 2011 Posted 22 November 2011 Yeah, if we can get up the league then I agree Leicester becomes more attractive. But you get feck all in terms of commitment from some of these types. Im sure he has said somewhere that Rangers could be a stepping stone. Remember big Alain Boumsong from Rangers? He made the same noises and ****ed off to Newcastle at the first chance. It would be great to get a player who you can be confident that is going to stay at Leicester for at least 3 years.

John Matrix Posted 22 November 2011 Posted 22 November 2011 Isn't the guy like Croatian mafia or something? We could pair him with Beckford and have the league's most gangster forward line. beckford is a plastic gangster
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 22 November 2011 Posted 22 November 2011 He doesnt want to come here, we dont want him
Narborough_fox Posted 22 November 2011 Posted 22 November 2011 Whether he wants to play for us this is insane;
Happy Fox Posted 24 November 2011 Posted 24 November 2011 http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football/premier-league/transfer-rumours/1312/47/swansea-and-leicester-go-head-head-rangers-star? Swansea and Leicester to go head-to-head for Rangers star By Warren Haughton Thursday, November 24 Rangers will allow striker Nikica Jelavic to leave in January - with Swansea and Leicester going head-to-head for his signature. The Croatian striker moved to Scotland from Rapid Vienna for £4m just over a year ago and has been a hit in the SPL, scoring 25 goals in 37 appearances for the Blues. Swansea boss Brendan Rogers is desperate for more firepower to boost his side's chances of Premier League survival. The Swans have scored just 12 league goals so far this term, with only West Brom, Stoke and Blackburn scoring fewer in the league. New Leicester boss Nigel Pearson is also keen on taking the big striker to the Midlands, but Jelavic would prefer a move to the Premier League to enhance his chances of making the Croatian squad for Euro 2012.
Narborough_fox Posted 24 November 2011 Posted 24 November 2011 If that's true, p*ss off Swansea and go back to your own league. Nikica's ours.
Happy Fox Posted 24 November 2011 Posted 24 November 2011 If that's true, p*ss off Swansea and go back to your own league. Nikica's ours. I doubt they would splash the cash they aren't going to spend £7.5m, we on the other hand might
Matt Posted 24 November 2011 Posted 24 November 2011 Excellent record in Scotland....means fuck all, means he'll be decent in League One/Two, but the Championship (And maybe even League One saying that) and above, you have to question whether he'd cut it. No thanks.

No thanks. He is a Croatian international what is wrong with you, not every player in the SPL is diabolical, there are some good players just because we have had a bad experience with some of the players coming from Scotland is not to say that Jelavic couldn't cut it at this level and at the prem should we get there.
Guest Col city fan Posted 24 November 2011 Posted 24 November 2011 I think if we are gonna pay anything like 7.5 mill for any striker currently playing in Scotland our scouts better be absolutely sure he's the real deal.

MC Prussian Posted 24 November 2011 Posted 24 November 2011 Shouldn't we be looking at a proper winger first?
Guest Col city fan Posted 24 November 2011 Posted 24 November 2011 Shouldn't we be looking at a proper winger first? Without a doubt IMO..
Happy Fox Posted 24 November 2011 Posted 24 November 2011 Shouldn't we be looking at a proper winger first? Maybe we are as well, I imagine NP has got a list of targets who he wants in the January transfer window Jelavic may be one of them.

I never said he wasn't Croatian, I never said he was Scottish. I said he's had 1 good season in Scotland, that is what i'm basing my opinion on, SPL isn't a good league, He's a good player in the SPL not sure he'd hack it in the Championship because barr Celtic/Rangers most SPL teams would struggle in League One and above. The rumoured £7 - 9m...I'd rather not risk that type of money on a SPL player.
Filberts Treat Posted 24 November 2011 Posted 24 November 2011 Really can't believe some of u are turning your noses up at him. Your acting like it's gonna come out of your own pockets. If Nigel's happy with it then what's the problem

No thanks. Because nobody has ever successfully played in the two countries..... And it's not just Jelavic's goalscoring record in the SPL - it's not like Kris Boyd - his technique and overall play is very special and on another level to any other striker in that league. He's a Henrik Larsson / Brian McClair type player who you can immediately tell would be a success south of the border, and if you look at some of the strikes he managed last year you'd realise to cast him off as a dud immediately and say his strike rate 'means **** all' would be unfair at best. That said some of the figures quoted are a little steep. I'd think £3 million tops but Rangers would never accept that.

Well yeah they did pay £4 million for him. £6 million would be a good place too start if we were going in for him. Depending on how Rangers financial situation is during January would dictate how much we'd pay for him.
