StanSP Posted 21 December 2011 Posted 21 December 2011 Ahhh, so that's why we bought Matt Mills... Everything's falling in to place now!

Swalker Posted 21 December 2011 Posted 21 December 2011 Don't change what's already working. Kasper, Peltier, Bamba and Konchesky are all solid at the back and can't be changed. Mills is decent but needs to sort his disciplinary out
danfox76 Posted 21 December 2011 Posted 21 December 2011 Wow this is more of a joke than the Peltier thread
Jimmy Posted 21 December 2011 Posted 21 December 2011 Wow this is more of a joke than the Peltier thread not really Bamba has a history of playing as a holding midfielder, to significant effect, but if we did so it would have to be in a 3 man CM
Guest MattP Posted 21 December 2011 Posted 21 December 2011 Is this a joke? It's bad enough watching him trying to pass it out of defence with 2-3 seconds more on the ball than he would have than in midfield. Junior Lewis springs to mind thinking of Sol chasing around players like Kevin Nolan in midfield. He's a centre half, any other position he would be a disaster. He also needs to seriously up his game from the last few weeks. I like it. Phil Jones comes to mind. Really? Seriously?
Guest MattP Posted 21 December 2011 Posted 21 December 2011 He plays there at international level aswel When did he displace Zokora and Yaya Toure from their combined 150 caps? Must have missed that.
Guest NGoloMode Posted 21 December 2011 Posted 21 December 2011 Really? Seriously? well clearly not on the same level but play style yea I think they are similar.
Guest MattP Posted 21 December 2011 Posted 21 December 2011 well clearly not on the same level but play style yea I think they are similar. They are both fairly decent in the air. That's where the similarity ends. Can't even compare Jones passing, positioning, goal threat and sense of gravity when running with the ball to Sol's.
Guest Col city fan Posted 22 December 2011 Posted 22 December 2011 Why can't a player be developed to play in a new position? Many managers have done this over the years... Little pushed Walshy up front, to good effect. Ferguson has done it with plenty of players, most recently Jones. Fergy loves a 'utility player' If the potential is there for a player to switch position then, with the right coaching it can be done. I simply feel the potential is there for Bamba to move upfield.. He has the attributes of pace, strength, aerial ability. Granted, he needs to train on passing. But it could be done with time and effort. From what I've seen of Bamba I see no reason why he couldn't make a very effective player just off the back four.

In a stumbling and, let's face it, underachieving and struggling squad, now is not the time to try out players in different positions. If we're top of the league with a considerable margin between us and 2nd or 3rd place, then yes we could experiment. A player can be trained in a new position, but we wouldn't reap the rewards of that player and their new position til well after the season has finished. Man Utd can do it because as that new player gets used to that new position, they can compensate with huge quality in other areas of the bitch. Jones can push forward because they have the rock that is Vidic or Ferdinand in defence. Plus, they are a team succeeding at the highest level. Right now, as much as I don't like it, Leicester are just a mediocre, average team in a tough division.
Richard Posted 23 December 2011 Posted 23 December 2011 I feel that his lacadazical attitude with the ball at his feet will put the defence under unecessary pressure, and as said previously I don't think he has the discipline to keep to that holding role, we've all seen him bombing forward from centre half and leaving the defence exposed. Why disrupt a developing partnership such as Mills + Bamba to play him out of position?
volpeazzurro Posted 23 December 2011 Posted 23 December 2011 Bamba occasionally has a successful foray forward but I don't think he's a defensive midfielder even at this level as his ball skills are nowhere near up to it imo. He's pretty good where he is, he's slightly better on the right compared to having to be on the left when Mills plays. I would like to see him paired with Tunchev, a far better defender than Bamba and Mills put together when fit. Tunchev reads the game very well and would perhaps be able to cover/compensate for Bamba's occasional abberations. Failing that Mills and Tunchev may also be worth a try.

Tunchev had a very good half a season in league 1 ....... been injured since, pretty much !! Finished I feel? out of contract in 6 months , I feel he will go home . Bamba has been and is our best c.b !!!! We need creativity in midfield some one that can travel with the ball,to open defences up. Plus a target man , a right winger and a new centre midfielder who can take a player on.... It's not rocket science but Sven failed , plz N.P dont make the same mistakes!!
AyewJoking Posted 23 December 2011 Posted 23 December 2011 I think a central defence of Mills, Tunchev and Bamba just in front of them would be good. Obviously, we'd have to sacrifice one of our creative midfi........
