Babylon Posted 20 December 2011 Posted 20 December 2011 Put Mills in the middle... at least he can't play any long balls then.
NewburyFox Posted 20 December 2011 Posted 20 December 2011 Just can't agree... Fernandes allegedly wants out Abe has been given his chance and has proven to be just not good enough That midfield is weak weak weak..... Physically speaking.. Is it just me or is it crying out for a player who is physically strong, tough in the tackle and good in the air... I must be missing something because, for me, this is clear as day.. Both under Sven and now Pearson our midfield is over run with quick counter attacks that put our back five under immense pressure, time and time again. We MUST get a stopper who can put his foot in and break up opposition attacks. This is why we have lost so many at home this season... Teams have soaked up pressure... And then burst forward. Who can stop this? Pussy boy Gally? Dyer? Kingy? Old man Richie? I would suggest none of them... And this is why our back five have been late in challenges, nervy on the ball and under frequent pressure. THE DEFENCE NEED HELP... And if Bamba is not the powerhouse we need sat in front of the back four it certainly ain't fookin Abe! Yes wingers, yes another attacker.. But IMO sorting out the defensive weakness in the middle of the park has to be the main priority. This is soooooo clear to me... It's crystal Fernandes chose to play in a reserve game and scored four. Doesn't sound like someone who wants out... We do need someone like that, but Bamba just shouldn't be that guy. He struggles with his discipline as it is and he can't pass. Neither Fernandes or Abe are perfect for the role but I'd prefer both of them in that role to Bamba. I agree that we need a player to fill the defensive midfielder role with a 'powerhouse', but it just shouldn't be Bamba. Fernandes isn't strong but he has exceptional stamina, is decent on the ball and can pass. I'd be worried every time that Bamba got the ball as he has a habit of trying to play a stupid pass or trying to run past someone when a simple pass would be the best choice. Teams would be expecting it and he'd lose the ball so many times. It just seems like such a bad idea. A loan until the end of the season would be ideal, we can't expect to get the right players in a decent deal in January.
marbelladave Posted 20 December 2011 Posted 20 December 2011 Fernandes played because there were scouts coming to the game, he will be gone in January as will Johnson. If one of the Japanese clubs make a half decent offer Abe will be gone too. Danns could be off too, with n'Dubz and JLS interested, Berner will be paid off and Schlupp will be let go, on loan initially. That should tighten up the squad somewhat!
Corky Posted 20 December 2011 Posted 20 December 2011 Danns could be off too, with n'Dubz and JLS interested, Good to see you keeping up with popular music David.
marbelladave Posted 20 December 2011 Posted 20 December 2011 Good to see you keeping up with popular music David. They're NASL teams aren't they, JLS must be, they're certainly nothing to do with music........ Here speaks a man who has just bought a Spotify account so that I can play all 42 of the Dick's Picks albums currently listed.......
sphericalfox Posted 20 December 2011 Posted 20 December 2011 Alot of people on here have suggested Bamba playing a defensive role in the midfield which i think could work. He's quick, strong and good in the air plus he likes bombing on every now and then, now i know this aint football manager but his natural position on there is a defensive midfielder but can also play at the back and is as good at the back so maybe worth a try? Then it leaves room for Tunch to come in and partner Mills. I think that's half of Bamba's problem. He's caught out half way up the field in midfield, and causing whoevers left at the back serious issues. I appreciate that he's trying to play positive, but probably wouldn't have to do that if the midfield did their jobs right.
Webbo Posted 20 December 2011 Posted 20 December 2011 I've thought this for a while. He doesn't have to be a brilliant passer, just win the ball pass it short to someone who can. As someone as also said it means he can get forward more as well. It's got to be worth a try.
RumbleFox Posted 20 December 2011 Posted 20 December 2011 The idea has crossed my mind too. My barber up here in Edinburgh is a Hibs fan, apparently they often played him in midfield. He doesn't have a bad touch at all, but his distribution is fairly poor. The guy never loses a header at the back though, which would be missed if we did this. Probably worth giving it a try when we next bring Tunch off the bench, take off a centre mid and switch Sol into the middle. Could be what we are looking for in terms of an anchor in midfield. Hello to you sir! I only say that as I live in Edingurgh too. never met a fellow fox up here!

For six months we have had an international, ex premier league, holding midfielder who can do all those things and more. We have given this player precisely zero opportunities to play this role, but now we are so desperate that we are going to ask our best central defender to do it.......WTF!
munf1987 Posted 20 December 2011 Posted 20 December 2011 F**k it, just play beckford in defence along side dyer while we're mixing players around. Yes bamba can probably play DCM, but he's our best defender at the moment so where is the sense in this? Not all teams need a defensive midfielder. The pairing of king and wellens seems to not be working at the moment but we need someone to sit in the middle and pull the strings at a quicker pace than wellens does, so we actually get behind teams and not allow them to get into shape

I hope the rumours about Fernandes leaving are premature, and that he's given a proper chance by NFP.
marbelladave Posted 20 December 2011 Posted 20 December 2011 Exactly. I hope the rumours about Fernandes leaving are premature, and that he's given a proper chance by NFP. No chance, he's gone...... Huge waste, shame........
Sylvie85 Posted 21 December 2011 Posted 21 December 2011 Think Bamba lacks the engine to play in midfield, even if you play him infront of the back four. To play that position you have to be so disciplined and that's not a word i would associate with big Sol. I also feel (as others have mentioned) that he would lack the passing ability to fulfil that role. So, yeah let's give it a go!!
GianEmmo Zola Posted 21 December 2011 Posted 21 December 2011 He looks good enough marrauding forward when he should be at centre half. So why not. When we signed him didnt the team we signed him from said hes better in midfield?
Webbo Posted 21 December 2011 Posted 21 December 2011 Think Bamba lacks the engine to play in midfield, What do you base that on?
Corky Posted 21 December 2011 Posted 21 December 2011 Bamba does have the ability to glide almost effortlessly past players. Play little give and go's with King and it might be a better option than Wellens and King.
Oakes5 Posted 21 December 2011 Posted 21 December 2011 Bamba does have the ability to glide almost effortlessly past players. Play little give and go's with King and it might be a better option than Wellens and King. Why does King have to even feature with this idea?
Corky Posted 21 December 2011 Posted 21 December 2011 Why does King have to even feature with this idea? Won't Bamba have a partner then?
StanSP Posted 21 December 2011 Posted 21 December 2011 Won't Bamba have a partner then? A lot of our fans seem to eradicate players. Tunchev is replacing Bamba, Mills and St Ledger at the centre of defence. It now appears Bamba will replace Wellens, King, Fernandes, Johnson in the centre of midfield. The key to winning this league is playing with less players on the pitch than the opposition. Did you not know that?
Oakes5 Posted 21 December 2011 Posted 21 December 2011 Bamba can have any partner he wants but i cant understand why people choose that person to be King. And besides that **** me Bamba in midfield behave. This Ian Holloway over again McCauley up front drop Fryatt back into midfield? Were a football team with a heavy financial backing we should utilise this by buying football players who can and want to play football.

Corky Posted 21 December 2011 Posted 21 December 2011 Bamba can have any partner he wants but i cant understand why people choose that person to be King. . Because, if it was to happen (which I don't think it will) then I believe King would be best suited to play that role.
