Bamba in midfield?

Alot of people on here have suggested Bamba playing a defensive role in the midfield which i think could work. He's quick, strong and good in the air plus he likes bombing on every now and then, now i know this aint football manager but his natural position on there is a defensive midfielder but can also play at the back and is as good at the back so maybe worth a try? Then it leaves room for Tunch to come in and partner Mills.

The more i hear this idea i try and remember Bamba saying in his own words that he doesn't like playing midfield hibs did it on a regular basis with him too. Personally the more i see wellens gally and king shrug at attackers and let them walk past the more i want big bamba there to chop em.

hell id put our back 4 in our mid atm atleast we might be able to keep the ball and have width with pelts and konch

I remember Bamba saying that too, that he doesn't like playing midfield, but the idea is growing on me, but at the same time, is experimenting with players in new positions the right thing to do right now? Bamba would certainly be more vocal too.

If he plays in a 3 man midfield, then i think he'd be better than Abe, so I see no harm in trying, the guy is a beast when it comes to snatching the ball off people

The idea has crossed my mind too. My barber up here in Edinburgh is a Hibs fan, apparently they often played him in midfield.

He doesn't have a bad touch at all, but his distribution is fairly poor. The guy never loses a header at the back though, which would be missed if we did this. Probably worth giving it a try when we next bring Tunch off the bench, take off a centre mid and switch Sol into the middle. Could be what we are looking for in terms of an anchor in midfield.

Always wanted to see him in midfield. I remember Hibs fans mention that he plays better in the middle than he does at the back.

As for whether he likes playing there, that is a sepearte issue.

I am pretty sure, if he was benched for a couple of games, he would enjoy any position.

I would like to see Tunch given a chance.

I'd like to see tunch with mills but again i think Bamba is up there as one of our best players and i'd still want him in the team. Who knows Pearson said there would be changes boxing day so let's just wait and see

I don't think he is a midfielder, I'm sure he could do a job there but we lack creativity in midfield he is not going to provide it, I would like to see him play as the sweeper role as a back 3/5 Mills and SSL/Tunchev as centre backs Bamba sweeping up and bringing the ball out from the back, I have always liked a back 5 with wing backs and Konchelsky has the engine to do that job, he was everywhere against Hull, Peltier would be solid on the other flank. This would allows us to have "luxury" player Gallagher in his natural position and free up the midfield from having to sit so deep.

Of course all systems rely on the personnel, but I think it would play to our strengths good solid defenders and provide support for our front 2 who should be scoring for fun in this division. Whilst shoring up our weakest part the midfield and meaning not playing with wingers, which is good because we don't have any.

Bamba would be much better suited in the midfield, mainly because the bloke isn't a defender!

I've not seen a centre half at Leicester with the naivety of Bamba for a good while, and that includes Matt Mills.

Yes he's quick, yes he's strong and yes he's good in the air. Key ingredients for a defender too I agree, but the mindset of the man is not that of a centre half. He goes walkabout so often it's frightening.

It seems every goal we concede can be connected to poor positional play from Sol Bamba. Take Billy Sharp's first one Saturday. He's peeled off the big man a treat and found space in between him and Konchesky. Great ball to find him yes but the fact he’s in that little pocket is because he left Bamba in no mans land.

It's remarkable how much I hear, 'yes, but what about those last ditch tackles he makes?'..........Good defenders don't make those tackles, they don't need to.

His pace is the only quality that keeps him from being totally useless at the back.

Yes! I would like Bamba ( or an equivalent) playing just off the back four.

I think this is essential IMO..

It would take some pressure off the defence and compensate for our other midfield lightweights...

It would also give the creative players more time on their attacking duties...

The important thing is that Sol would have to know his role ie... Win the ball, lay it off.. Win the ball, lay it off.. Ad nauseum....

IMO this type of player is exactly what the team needs... Some midfield steel

Every goal? that's a big over statement isn't it? it's not his fault for the second one at forest where weale got beat by a lob or the SSL mishap against bristol not to mention 2 EARLY BATHS for his so called central partner i think he is very defensive minded and thats also why he said in his own words that he wouldn't want to be a midfielder because of his defensive mind.

I actually said "It seems every goal we concede" - I'm not lumping all the blame on him, that would be unfair and totally inaccurate. It's his defensive role I'm bartering and my point is he hasn't got the awareness of one.

He's so defensively inept it's frightening.

It might be frightening but what is even worse is he has probably taken on more players than the rest of the squad this season

We need a midfield 'powerhouse'...

What IS frightening is the physical weakness of our midfield.....

Bamba ( or an equivalent) is what this team needs...

No, Bamba should never play in midfield. Ever. A defensive midfielder has to have some ability when it comes to passing the ball, and Bamba just doesn't have that ability. If we're going to use a defensive midfielder, Fernandes or Abe would be much better suited to the role. There would be much more pressure on Bamba when he has the ball too, and I'd worry every time he got the ball that he'd lose it.

Keep him at CB. I still believe that him and Mills can form the best partnership in the league under Nigel's stewardship.

Just can't agree...

Fernandes allegedly wants out

Abe has been given his chance and has proven to be just not good enough

That midfield is weak weak weak..... Physically speaking.. Is it just me or is it crying out for a player who is physically strong, tough in the tackle and good in the air... I must be missing something because, for me, this is clear as day..

Both under Sven and now Pearson our midfield is over run with quick counter attacks that put our back five under immense pressure, time and time again.

We MUST get a stopper who can put his foot in and break up opposition attacks.

This is why we have lost so many at home this season... Teams have soaked up pressure... And then burst forward.

Who can stop this? Pussy boy Gally? Dyer? Kingy? Old man Richie?

I would suggest none of them... And this is why our back five have been late in challenges, nervy on the ball and under frequent pressure.

THE DEFENCE NEED HELP...

And if Bamba is not the powerhouse we need sat in front of the back four it certainly ain't fookin Abe!

Yes wingers, yes another attacker.. But IMO sorting out the defensive weakness in the middle of the park has to be the main priority.

This is soooooo clear to me... It's crystal

I don't think NP wants to risk our CB pairing so putting Bamba in DM makes no sense at all, I agree with your sentiments that the midfield is crying out for a Seyi Olofinjana type midfielder.
