Bob Weasel Fox Posted 30 December 2011 Posted 30 December 2011 Apart from Cov away he was ordinary anyway, good riddance
5waller5 Posted 30 December 2011 Posted 30 December 2011 Well the two things aren't linked. Fernandes going has nothing to do with Wellens. Other reasons for not playing the others instead could be that he quite simply doesn't fancy them. Fernandes wanted out, rumours that Johnson wanted the same (although nothing decent to back that up like there is with Fernandes). Abe played instead of King which leaves Danns, and lets face it when he has played he's hardly set the world alight. Yeah he might have been Palaces player of the year and played well at our ground. But how many fans opposition fans probably hold the same thoughts about Wellens (our player of the year)? For all you know he's tried combinations in training and not seen anything to convince him the others are going to be any better. That doesn't mean Wellens is his mate and he'll never drop him. If Pearson has the money to replace all the players in our team with better, then Wellens will be out of the window. Don't listen to the rubbish about Wellens being some kind of godfather figure ruling the roost... none of it can be backed up. I don't buy the Godfather conspiracy theory one bit. It's more basic than that for me. If i was Fernandes (or Abe, and Danns to some extent, but lets stick to Fernandes as it's his thread) I'd be sat in the ground on a saturday afternoon watching a dire game with a midfield that is clearly not good enough. Just as another opposition player gets to the ball first and sprints with it past a static Wellens who is shouting and pointing at his man for someone else to tackle, I answer my phone .... It's my agent; would i like to join 3rd in Serie A ... I may have even say no, I'll fight for my place - it can't be that hard to get into this team .... and then I'd watch 5 more games with the same personnel being picked ahead of me despite my 4 goals for the reserves, and no improvement in sight. I'd then jump to the same conclusion that most people have - I and noone else is going to shift that fat bloke in midfield from this side as the manager clearly actually wants us to play this style of football, otherwise he'd have tried something, no ANYTHING different. I'd probably also wonder what happened to the great club I joined with a world class manager at the helm with money to spend and wonder why they are playing pub football with absolutely no direction to the play. I'd then ring my agent back.

And, I thought Gelson made it clear he wanted out before Pearson even came back... So it actually makes little sense
5waller5 Posted 30 December 2011 Posted 30 December 2011 Big deal. We're a mid table championship side.

And, I thought Gelson made it clear he wanted out before Pearson even came back... So it actually makes little sense Gelson would have changed his mind if he'd have been in the side and enjoying himself. Sven, for me, was having a sticky patch in building a side to get out of this division - once out he'd have been very well equipped to be successful in the premier. Not something I think NP will be able to. I guess it's all opinion and conjecture .... that and 27-1 in the manager's trophy cabinet?

Babylon Posted 30 December 2011 Posted 30 December 2011 Gelson would have changed his mind if he'd have been in the side and enjoying himself. If you have the time try and find the article, I can't find the longer version and I'm not giving up hours to do so. But it was very clear on why he came (Sven) and why he wanted to leave (Sven leaving).

Mack Posted 30 December 2011 Posted 30 December 2011 He's gone, no point in keep going over the ifs an buts.
FantasticMrFuchs Posted 30 December 2011 Posted 30 December 2011 Not sure about him signing for Udinese, Strong reports in this mornings Cologne Newspaper that he was in talks with the club and Nuremberg.
seenitall Posted 30 December 2011 Posted 30 December 2011 So the guy good enough to play in Serie A was happy to be here while Sven was here but leaves after he's gone. Nige can't turn it around! Bodes well
funkyrobot Posted 30 December 2011 Posted 30 December 2011 Looked like all the other Midfielders who have played for us this season- distinctly average.

Bodes well What are you talking about? Fernandes joined for Sven and Sven only, he said as much. Stop trying to use it as an excuse to bash Pearson as he really did nothing wrong. Oh and Spider Kalac was good enough to play in Seria A and he was utter guff.
seenitall Posted 30 December 2011 Posted 30 December 2011 Another poor sap who the City fans drubbed out of the club who went on to be a top class player is another way of looking at it. I like Nige, it's not his fault his magnetism for top drawer players is a bit rubbish, I am sure when he wins a few major European league titles and manages England to the quarter finals of the World Cup, he will be attractive to play for too - now if only we could get someone like that.......

Tielemans63 Posted 30 December 2011 Posted 30 December 2011 Move on.. Get over it... Etc etc etc Absolutely. It's not like Sven got the best out of him is it? He didn't even pick him. It's a shame we didn't see more of him but it's hardly the great loss some are making out. Plus, if he was that bloody good why isn't he playing for St Etienne? Who's to say he'll even get a game at Udinese?
dog_4 Posted 30 December 2011 Posted 30 December 2011 He attracted berner and tunchev when we were in league 1! he's clearing the dead wood! getting the centre of midfield balanced from 6 to 4! after sharp so we'd have beckford, nugent, sharp and waghorn! and looking at wingers so we have more then one! ie robbie brady! doing a good job so far! results and performances arent great but behind the scences its going to plan!! All about Time!

It's a shame the one we did have still picked Wellens and King above the amazing Swiss International, who is constantly loaned out by St Etienne (who finished 1 place above the relegation zone) to the amazing Chevio in Seria A and the amazing Leicester in the Championship. These teams are about our equivalent of Wolves. It's also a shame that these top drawer players Sven managed to attract didn't perform for him, because if they had he would still be here. Names count for nothing, under Pearson last time we made the play offs with a team of frees, kids and lower league players, along with a few players who came for a fee. I think you have stars in your eyes, because the names of these people seem to be blinding you to the fact Sven and his "top drawer players" failed to once get us into the play off places in over a year.

MC Prussian Posted 31 December 2011 Posted 31 December 2011 Just to point one thing out: When I quoted the one snippet about Fernandes' status at the club some two months ago, it didn't say more than "Fernandes unhappy after departure of Sven. Looks at joining other clubs, most probably Serie A." This coming from the Swiss version of Metro. Make of that what you want. Personally, I think it's a huge chance wasted. Now we're stuck with a literally immobile centre midfield. Wellens and King getting ahead of Fernandes shows how dire the situation is. Btw, I'm not saying all of this just because I'm Swiss.
MC Prussian Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Supposed to be official now - Fernandes is joining Udinese Calcio on loan until the end of the year. Asked about his time at Leicester and the lack of playing time, he stated "it's got nothing to do with football, there's only political reasons for that." (Source: Swiss media)
The Doctor Posted 2 January 2012 Posted 2 January 2012 Political reasons - interesting or is that lost in translation and he means to do with the change of manager?
