Guest lcfc80 Posted 11 January 2012 Posted 11 January 2012 To be honest I think I made the post referring to this just after I had watched the Wimbledon 99 semi and thats what brought it on, that night it was 8,000 odd (mainly rough) blokes between the age of 18-40, it made me think that night there was nothing anyone could chant at us that anyone gave a shit about or that could ruin it for everyone, so I think I was talking about the difference in our travelling support in ten years rather than anything else. I thought the support at Forest was absolutely dire tbh and I can't believe anyone who has followed City to any of the big away trips in the 90's could disagree. It's old fashioned but when you see a massive following that involves a shitload of women and kids the atmosphere is going to be a bit wank. I'm willing to accept the years of 5,000+ pissed up blokes as representative of a football club going to Vienna is a thing of the past though. Great in a way but also awful in another way. I can't agree that you either that you have to be either helping it fester or totally against,. like one of the posters above said, there has to be a sensible point somewhere in the middle of someone like me and Accessory and that's what the police and football clubs need to be aiming for. I don't think me saying I dont believe action should be taken over a "You used to be English" chant quite equates me to condoning some of the stuff that happened outside the ground. If it does then I think the people analysing it need to show a little bit more common sense on the issue. One thing is for sure, our supporters better be squeaky clean tuesday, because they will be looking for absolutely anything to slander this football club. I'm with you mate (although the wimbledon game was 97). Football used to be good, a good laugh, good banter, no one caring about what is said etc etc, that semi final was brilliant, rotherham 02 was probably the last one I really enjoyed. I dont go anymore because i simply dont like it, i don't like the whole direction football has gone tbh as it is no more a working mans game. and what i think is even sadder, I've just listened to the section on 5live about it and fair plays to the fans that rang in and said they weren't bothered. but that copper has just said they are investigating THAT 'you used to be english chant' because someone complained to the police. FFS what sad git would complain about THAT chant to the rozzers, probably the same people that cry at the stewards for swearing, go sit in the family stand if you dont like it. now im not defending what happened to the singh fella or whatever is name is as it is wrong to be get what he got but lets not pretend city fans are sqeaky clean, anyone remember the sikh lad that used to run about with the forest lads for example
flowwolf Posted 11 January 2012 Posted 11 January 2012 Any chance of singhy's autograph ? A star is born !
Captain... Posted 11 January 2012 Posted 11 January 2012 Don't understand why we feel the " you used to be English" chant is taken as derogatory , after all we are not a quaint little vicar of Dibley type place any more are we ? In fact we should take it as a complement an acknowledgement of our multi cultural city we now live in. Perhaps we could sing back " we're so multi it's unbelievable" There are 2 sides to it though, the intent and the interpretation. For example: I could call you a "paki lover" for that comment, you may feel proud that you are able to integrate into society and not be prejudiced towards others because of the colour of their skin and not take offence and take it as a complement... but I would still be a racist inbred cvnt who deserves a good kicking.

Agreed that's why we should throw it back to them in terms of " so what we are proud of our diversity it's you morons that have a problem with your culture . If we acknowledge that " you used to be English " gets to us it amounts to agreeing with them because we give credence to their argument and that there may be some truth to it ( which there isn't ) PS Dr Singh any chance of a autograph ?

Yojoe36 Posted 11 January 2012 Posted 11 January 2012 Since when did the Leicester Merc start putting quotes from FT on their articles? Bloody hell, I hope they ignore mine.

This is where I have problems with that chant, it doesn't really offend me and I don't think it was meant as abuse towards our ethnic community, but by taking offense as a lot have then I guess in that way it is offensive, even if not intentionally. So if we didn't take offense then there would be nothing to be upset about. Unfortunately this chant has over shadowed the real issue that a number of our fans were racially abused outside the ground, and that is not acceptable.
Babylon Posted 11 January 2012 Posted 11 January 2012 Since when did the Leicester Merc start putting quotes from FT on their articles? They have been taking sports info off here for ages. Sad state of affairs.
Babylon Posted 11 January 2012 Posted 11 January 2012 Unfortunately this chant has over shadowed the real issue that a number of our fans were racially abused outside the ground, and that is not acceptable. Obviously Forest stewards heard racist abuse in the ground also to eject some of their fans for it!!
Corky Posted 11 January 2012 Posted 11 January 2012 You seem more put out by the complaints than the Forest fans. You don't believe that the 'Used to be English' chants were about anything other than the ethnicity of Leicester do you? If it was cos of foreign ownership, they'd be singing it every other week. You used to be Bilo, you're not anymore.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 11 January 2012 Posted 11 January 2012 They have been taking sports info off here for ages. Sad state of affairs. Yet never quote my stuff. It doesn't make sense
Babylon Posted 11 January 2012 Posted 11 January 2012 Yet never quote my stuff. It doesn't make sense Foxy Peter has been quoted loads.

Yes but exactly why does it offend people? it needs to be explained by those offended. I have not heard anyone explain why loosing our " Englishness" is offensive.
smallpauldj Posted 11 January 2012 Posted 11 January 2012 And I suppose when we play Brighton away someone in the away end wont start the does your boyfriend know your here chant? Once again the left wing brigade sounds there victory horn. I dread the day we ever have a civil war over here cause chances are we wont win!

Don't worry mate all the left wing hand wringing Walters do is talk. Just hit them once with a big builders fist complete with acab tattoos topped off with a Gold sovereign ring and they go down quicker than a barmaids knickers. Bring on the revolution.

Of course they will but anyone with any sense will not join in

I have not heard anyone explain why loosing our " Englishness" is offensive. For the billionth time... it was not just that chant, there were other chants worse than this inside and outside the ground. If they had just sang the one song, the chances are people would maybe given them the benefit of doubt. But they didn't, they chanted other songs and even had people ejected for racist chanting by their own stewards!! Those complaining have probably heard the other stuff, maybe even read what Singh had to go through and decided the chant wasn't about having Thai owners. It was suggesting that in some way it's wrong, or a bad thing to have a mix of people as fans or in our city. Which in turns means they think something is wrong with people from other backgrounds. Again, this is about more than that one chant though. This is being played by the media because it was out in the public domain and could be freely recorded off youtube. It is highly unlikely people have been offended by just that one chant, I would suggest it's more of a combination of that and all the other bits that day. When you read Singhs account of what happened, and see his comments about not wanting to take his kid to a game because of the abuse he hears. How can anyone not believe this stuff shouldn't be going on at footy. Inside or outside the ground.

Babylon Posted 11 January 2012 Posted 11 January 2012 you do know it was THAT chant that someone complained to the police about don't you You don't know exactly what has been reported or by whom. Yes they are looking into that one. But There were two clips, one with clear racist abuse outside the ground and one with that chanting inside. There have been also other reports of racist abuse inside the ground and two forest fans were ejected during the game for racist abuse. Just because something isn't on Youtube, doesn't mean they won't know about it, and won't look in to it. Unless you work for Nottingham police you don't know what they are looking at.
