Police launch chant probe - Forest fans fall under the spotlight

Nope. I've said those chants should be reported.

The video we have asked them to investigate is embarrassing and makes us look a joke, god knows what we'll get from them next time after this.

But the reporting of that video has lead to them 'reviewing CCTV and following a number of lines of enquiry', and guess what? That may well lead them to discover what else was said.

Its not even racist to publically say you don't like a certain race so can someone with some knowledge in this area actually tell me what the police can do, remembering the police enforce the law of the country, not the moral high ground

I think its completely silly. Admit it, we will all laugh cause it's Forest, but its pathetic. Mention race anywhere in football now and a big issue will be made. I might wait till some twonk sits near me at home that don't have a clue, or tells me to sit down at an away game and go tell the steward he keeps shouting racist words, see em off out in a jiffy!

Love it. They're being investigated for racism when I clearly heard some Leicester fans chanting 'He's fat, he's round, he's six feet underground, Brian Clough' lol

I know it's not racist, but it's still pretty harsh.

Yeah, because that's exactly what happened to the original poster.

This clearly isn't just down to just that one video.

Video has now been taken off YouTube.

Bit slow, but glad the little fvckwit is ashamed.

At the end of the day if people were offended and judging by accounts on here and other ecidence on youtube forums etc the police have a duty to investigate it might ammount to nothing. All we can hope for is that the people who do this kind of thing switch on the TV go to sky sports news and see their club their supporters being probed for racists chants and go cold and get nervous and scared because deep down they know it's wrong and they know they might be in trouble and they've tarnished their club because they have been a fvcking silly boy and then they learn to stop and support their team in the right way

Is it isn't it?

I need to get back to Germany to watch my football and leave the English stuff to the guardian readers in mustard trousers.

Not condoning the behaviour of either fans outside the ground but im convinced some people won't stop until everyone is sat down with a coffee and a programme for 90 mins.

im with you 'you used to be english, you're not anymore' is not offensive. It's banter and people need to get a grip

I find the Brian Clough chant an absolute disgrace and anybody that sings it should be chucked out. Harmless banter is brilliant but that just NO. Imagine if it was sung about a family member. I'm sure the players don't like hearing it and the management team will hate it. What happenes to getting behind your team? Maybe we should take a leaf out of Lech Poznan's book?

anyone even thinking about doing 'the poznan' should be slung out of the ground and given a life time ban in my honest

The Crime and Disorder act provides the power to convict people who commit offences that are racially aggravated so if you commit a public order offence which is what would cover this situation and it's compounded by the fact it's racially motivated then a power of arrest exists.

The penalties for these offences on conviction are greater than the normal offence. In this instance the worst case scenario for the offenders would be six months in prison, they would almost certainly also get a lengthy ban from any games.

This really isn't an offence you want to be convicted of as the punishments are harsh.

So the basic answer to your question is there is a lot of law for the police to enforce in these cases, and it also includes homophobic offences so chants at Brighton fans could fall into the same category.

I think this is stupid and being massively blown out of proportion. They just chant these things to get under our skin and its clearly worked. I wouldnt take it as some racist hate crime - more misguided banter. It wouldn't surprise me if some of them singing it were black. We are just as bad singing about Brian clough. It's football rivalry, get over it!

I consider the Salford shooting a hate crime

Not some petty chant sang by 2 year olds. grow some balls there a main rival.

Such a fine line between banter and hatred,im really not offended when they sing most of these chants, its water of a ducks back, but what pisses me off is when idiots single people out like Dr the singh(his post),now thats a different story,i would throw the book at theracist morons if they were like those in the youtube clip,i could bend over fart and knock them over.

But the stuff inside the ground filmed on YouTube gave the vermin the confidence to have a go at Dr the Singh.

it's disappointing, for many reasons, that some posters seem to be siding with the racists ahead of our own.

There are bigger issues at stake here than "rivalry" between two clubs.

Fans on both sides, from all races, should be able to attend games without fear of abuse or harassment. At the moment, that clearly is not the case.

You seem more put out by the complaints than the Forest fans. You don't believe that the 'Used to be English' chants were about anything other than the ethnicity of Leicester do you?

If it was cos of foreign ownership, they'd be singing it every other week.

Believe me when all of this blows up in our faces they will be singing it at us every week, we have made a rod for our own backs in this case.

Are you continually ignoring the fact that there were other chants as well as the English based ones on purpose? Either way, it's getting really, really boring.

That video of the chant is the focus of the enquiry, there are youtube videos of people shouting Paki Bastard, and other accounts of more abusive chanting, such as town full of Paki's and some individual stories of abuse outside the ground. That should be the focus of any enquiries, not an ambiguous bit of banter, which can easily be dismissed as aimed at the owners, and the very high profile way they have taken over the club, our main sponsors are Thai, the name of our ground is named after a Thai company, Air Asia, Singha Beer are amongst our sponsors. It can, and will, be argued that we are not an English club.

My main concern is that the video of the chant will be dismissed, we will look like a bunch of idiots, and the actual racism will go unpunished.

All this was said by scousers and others about Patrice Evra.

But in the end he proved to be vindicated, as will we.

Again a bit of a difference.....

Scrapnels right here, that video will be laughed off by the authority's and we'll be getting this ten times louder in the future.
