**** sake, its a big wide world out there! If you think "You used to be english, you're not anymore" is really racist and hurtful then you have lived a very sheltered life. As said before it was distasteful but thats just what happens at a football match, especially when your playing your "hated local rivals"! We are homophobic towards Brighton so whats the ****ing difference!

Having said that, any racist remarks aimed at individual people is disgusting and the people responsible for that should be punished.

I'm sorry but WTF . So your saying its ok to be a racist as long as you are in large groups shouting at other large groups? Maybe i'll email the BNP you post so they can use it . I mean no matter where when or against how many ppl or even as your saying " its only a little racist it's ok " FFS . And so by your logic if i went up to just one person of asian decent at fotty and shouted " We used to be english now we're not" I would be scum BUT if i sing it at hundreds of ppl im a just having a laugh ? OK makes senseWhat message does that send out to kids who are in the crowd, that being a little racist at a football ground is ok ? Little things like this thread just breed ignorance .

No he is saying that there is a big difference between 5000 people shouting something at 5000 other people about a city, and having someone come up in to your face and abuse you personally.

Why? Is the end goal not the same?

I really don't understand how someone can be offended enough to make a complaint about forest chanting " you used to be english , your not anymore "

They have sung this every time i've been to the city ground which leads me to think our society is just starting to become incredibly race concious with everything else that has been going on in football.

Can someone who was actually offended explain why they found it offensive. Not someone who merely thinks it might be offensive to other people.

I asked the same thing mate but never got a satisfactory answer. It seems some people actually look to get offended.

Thankyou shrapnel. Atleast you get my point.

As for this response, I have never read such shite in my life. Where the hell does the BNP come into it?!? You have completely twisted what I said. That chant was borderline racist at the very most. It had no racial hatred behind it whatsoever and it was being sung in the heat of the moment about our city to try and wind us up - Nothing more. A group picking out and racially abusing a single person is a totally new kettle of fish. Obviously that has hatred behind it and needs to be dealt with robustly. Dont come on here and basically acuse me of being racist. Wind your neck in pal.

For the billionth time... it was not just that chant, there were other chants worse than this inside and outside the ground. If they had just sang the one song, the chances are people would maybe given them the benefit of doubt. But they didn't, they chanted other songs and even had people ejected for racist chanting by their own stewards!!

Those complaining have probably heard the other stuff, maybe even read what Singh had to go through and decided the chant wasn't about having Thai owners. It was suggesting that in some way it's wrong, or a bad thing to have a mix of people as fans or in our city. Which in turns means they think something is wrong with people from other backgrounds.

Again, this is about more than that one chant though. This is being played by the media because it was out in the public domain and could be freely recorded off youtube. It is highly unlikely people have been offended by just that one chant, I would suggest it's more of a combination of that and all the other bits that day.

When you read Singhs account of what happened, and see his comments about not wanting to take his kid to a game because of the abuse he hears. How can anyone not believe this stuff shouldn't be going on at footy. Inside or outside the ground.

Babylon / Captain thank you for explaining why you think the " you used to be English " is offensive , you put it much better than I could and I now understand it's full implications.

Make your mind up... I'm starting to think you are here to just wind people up.

Why? Is the end goal not the same?

Not really in a crowd it is nothing personal, your are not singling anyone out, you are also not alone, are you honestly saying you think it is the same thing to be in a group that is being shouted at by another group, as have one person come up to you in the street and shout something at you.

As Leicester fans you represent the club and the city, when they used to chant things like you're going home in an ambulance were you upset? Now imagine someone came up to you in the street and told you that you are going home in an ambulance you would probably shit yourself, I would.

Maybe they complained to the grammar police...

It might not be personal to you, but if that group of people are insinuating that there is something wrong with not being white. Then I would suggest it could be personal to people in the crowd who aren't white. It shouldn't matter if it's one person or a thousand saying it, it doesn't make it right.

The other chant you mention is not singling people out for their appearance, or insinuating they are lesser of a person because of the colour of their skin. It's just an attempt to intimidate.... and a crap one at that.

But that wasn't the point being argued, the point was that what happens between two crowds is different to individual confrontations, of the incidents at Forest, the ones that are more disturbing are the individual altercations outside the ground, not the chanting.

The other point being made was about mob mentality and how those at the ground who get swept up the emotion of the game and join in chanting are not the same is those outside the ground who singled people out and insulted them.

I am not saying it is ok to chant racist things, I just think that it is a hell of a lot worse to single people out outside the ground when there are not thousands of people and a much greater distance between the two groups. This really should be the focus of all of this.

Of course a group of people abusing one person outside a ground is probably a lot more frightening. But abuse is abuse, chanting aimed at a whole crowd may be less intimidating, but it's still picking out a small number of individuals because the colour of their skin. Yes what happened outside is far worse, but by saying we should only focus on that means you are condoning the other.

Singh, Raj and any other lads there probably have thick enough skin now for the stuff in the ground to be water off a ducks back. We shouldn't have to rely on the fact people are used to that stuff (and a lot worse) as the reason for them not being overly offended.

The other point being made was about mob mentality and how those at the ground who get swept up the emotion of the game and join in chanting are not the same is those outside the ground who singled people out and insulted them.

I have already said myself that I don't believe everyone that chanted it is instantly a racist. An idiot, most probably, but not necessarily a racist. It doesn't mean the police shouldn't try and trace those involved to at least warn / educate them. Somebody started these songs, and for all we know it's the same people as the ones who targeted Singh outside the ground.

That's why the whole lot should be looked at.

At no point in that post did i accuse you of being racist , if it came across that way then im sorry. The point i was trying to make was why should it be acceptable because its "just what happens at football" which is what you implied . IMO although maybe more personal i don't see why its more acceptable to insult a crowd for not being white than one person . It these little chants that although may seem nothing to some go on everywhere now and surely thats a big problem. it maybe only a little racist but no matter how small it should never be labelled as funny or acceptable because its just wot happens at football.

You used to be english your not any more.

How correct is that and could be sung at every club and to every club.

If your german and you get a passport you are german

If your English and get a passport you are BRITISH.

As for the small town song well thats iraq and arrab nothing to do with our assian brothers.(just shows how thick they are)

The only one that is not banter and funny is A Town Full Of P's. And no it should not be sung but it is.

The best thing we could do is ignore it but now we will be the biggest target going for the morons.

And with 8000 at the ground sorry is not personal. Also not like we are perfect we used to sing songs about race n colour, munich and more recent GAYS and Brian Clough

Who cares whether it's true? You'd have to be stupid to even entertain the idea that the 'You used to be English, you're not anymore' isn't directed at our high ethnic minority population.

Yes, we not entirely innocent. Not one person has claimed we are. Two wrongs don't make a right.
