I think over the last few weeks we have seen the beginning of some very good partnerships that have greatly improved our performances. Mills/St ledger now look a very good pairing. Danns/wellens seem to compliment each other with danns having the bite and wellens the know how. Nugent/beckford also seem to be getting on the same wavelength and both putting in the effort and closing down as well as being a potent goal threat. As well as these pairings through the spine of the team, I can see an understanding forming between konch/dyer down the left, really encouraging for the future in my opinion.

Partnerships are what enables a team to be better than the sum of its parts

Mills & SSL are playing well together obviously & Danns & Wells certainly compliment each other better than anyone else we've had in midfield so far this season & Nuge & Becks are performing better together

This is the effect of a good manager who knows how to build teams, obviously it didn't happen over night & there is still some way to go, but the upward curve is here now.

elsewhere on the pitch other partnerships are forming too.

Peltier & Mills

SSL & Konch

Konch & Dyer

Dyer & Nugent

Danns & Beckford seem to be on the same wavelength to

and Gally & Peltier works well in attack with Gally coming in allowing Peltier the space to overlap, it is quite a weak defensive paring though

It adds up to us being a useful team & I think with a couple of signings to add a better balance to the squad... we'll be damn fine

Mills and SSL are looking good, though I do wonder how SSL and Bamba will get on as judging from what I've seen in the past months, Mills has looked the weakest link out of the three.

I do like Danns energy, reminds me of a better version of Abe, I reckon him and Drinkwater would be better than him and Wellens.

As you can see from my post I was struggling on the right side of the pitch, although I like gally I don't think he gives enough to the team both in terms of defending and also putting some 'weight' in the tackle. Hopefully drinkwater might add another dimension on the right!

Strange thread when you realise that Bamba is clearly our best defender so the SSL/Mills partnership hopefully won't endure. Drinkwater looks like he could be our best midfielder meaning that Danns/Wellens won't endure and as for Nugent/beckford I'm still not convinces about Beckford, I think any striker could work well with Nugent.

In fact Howard/Hopper looked good in the few minutes we saw it. :P

Not about being the best player, it's about who makes the best team together.

That much should be obvious to us of all people

Think bamba might find himself on the outside for a while, I was impressed with hopper, made some intelligent runs and also dangerous in the box

I'd like to see how a CM partnership of Danns / Drinkwater would get on. Nothing against Wellens - just think we need more legs in the middle of the park.

the team finaly look like it is begining to take a bit of shape and i think its alot to do with pearson ssl+ mills look stronk, no prbs with pelts and konchesky, drinkwatre and danns will give us fresh legs in cm. beckford finally is starting to look good and nugent is battling as normal. the only problem we have is down the wings gallagher isnt really a winger and dyer is playing well at the moment but we all know his limits. we should get cotteril in for free then try to sign someone maybe marshall i think there after him.

My opinion.

I know it might be your opinion, but Mills has looked so better with St Ledger at the side of him. I think St Ledger is technical, comfortable on the ball, dominant in the air and he also reads the game so well.

I think St Ledger is our best defender, something I have said for ages. He made on mistake against Bristol City, something that could have happened to any defender in the World, but other than that, he has been solid and has proved to be one of Sven's better signings.

But then it is kind of the point of focussing on partnerships rather than individuals.

It is the Gerrard and Lampard debate, at the time 2 of the best midfielders in the world were responsible for one of the weakest international midfields, because they couldn't perform together.

I agree that Bamba when compared to Mills and SSL is a better footballer, a better athlete, faster, stronger, better in the air and on the ground and pulls off some amazing last ditch tackles, his distribution is better and he can driveforwards with the ball.

But we have looked stronger since he left for the African Cup. This may be coinceidence, or it maybe that Mills and SSL complement each other well, better than Mills and Bamba, being in a back four, communication, organisation and discipline are as important as footballing ability. So if (and that is only an if) that is missing when Bamba plays and as a back four we are weaker with him in it, even though he is a better player individually, then we have to stick with Mills and SSL.

Of course we don't know, I honestly believe the difference in the last few weeks has been one of attitude and not ability and if Bamba had been here partnering Mills or SSL then he would be receiving as much praise as anyone else (likewise King).

I didn't see much partnership with SSL / Mills and Peltier / Mills in the first half at least against Swindon. SSL and Miils didn't exchange one word and looked like strangers to me, as for Miils & Peltier there was always far too much space between them and Peltier was often left marking two whilst Mills seemed intent on marking the same guy as SSL.

A team that could actually get many of it's 16 attempts at goal struck more accurately would have surely exposed these short comings.

The truth is, in spite of the 3 successive clean sheets the defence has not been seriously tested. Sure they did what they had to do but I'll reserve judgement on the potential success of our defence, maybe more time together will help.

I suppose Mills is very quiet, which is extremely poor for a supposed captain.

Very different to how Wellens was (and still is) always being vocal.

Out of the new guys Kasper would seem to have more of the personal traits needed for captain material

This quietness along the back-line is still a bit worrying & far cry from the lion-hearted centrebacks we look back on so fondly

I was astonished to learn that in the recent test it was the 100th time Strauss and Cook have made the opening partnership.

And they fvcked it right up too.
