Corky Posted 16 February 2012 Posted 16 February 2012 The Steven Finn thread has been discussing England.
Guest MattP Posted 21 February 2012 Posted 21 February 2012 What a shame the ODI's weren't before the tests, playing the spinners properly now and using their feet. Still should bounce back in Sri Lanka comfortably now before coming back to our own conditions.
Guest MattP Posted 21 February 2012 Posted 21 February 2012 Oh and Steve Finn is going to be an absolute monster. Could become our leading wicket taker of all time if he keeps developing like this.
Wherethefoxhat? Posted 28 February 2012 Author Posted 28 February 2012 England Test squad for Sri Lanka tour: Strauss, Anderson, Bell, Bopara, Bresnan, Broad, Cook, Davies, Finn, Panesar, Patel, Pietersen, Prior, Swann, Tredwell & Trott. What do you think about that squad?

Guest MattP Posted 28 February 2012 Posted 28 February 2012 Copied in from Finn thread... I think he has to start after what's happened in the last few months, he looks absolutely brutal. Regular hitting 88/89 even on these pitches. I wouldnt be surprised if we went in with an extra bowler and shoved Prior up. Sri Lanka don't carry much bowling since losing Vaas, Malinga and Murali. Cook Strauss Trott Pietersen Bell Prior Broad Swann Anderson Finn Panesar If they want to go in four then remove either Panesar or Finn for Bopara, I'd do neither.

I think the five man attack is an interesting. However, once you're past that, you've got Swann (massively overrated batting-wise these days), Anderson, Finn an Monty who don't exactly fill you with confidence. Given that one of our major strengths in our rise to the top has been our ability to bat deep and I can't see a five man attack coming soon, unless maybe you had both Broad and Bresnan in there. I wonder whether they'll go for a four man attack with Swann as the only spinner and have Samit Patel at number 6 primarily as a batsman but also as a second spinner. Ultimately I'm just musing
Corky Posted 28 February 2012 Posted 28 February 2012 Patel, although I don't rate him, is a sensible choice as an all-rounder.
Guest MattP Posted 26 March 2012 Posted 26 March 2012 Stunning start here, Sri Lanka 15-3 on a corking pitch. Our fast bowling attack just gets the job fine every single time.
Guest MattP Posted 26 March 2012 Posted 26 March 2012 And this exactly why Panesar shouldn't be in this team....he's just doesn't fit in with this all round cricket ethos we have now.
ScouseFox Posted 26 March 2012 Posted 26 March 2012 Monty I'd back myself to catch one, if not both of those.
ScouseFox Posted 26 March 2012 Posted 26 March 2012 Also, congrats to Jimmy on 250 wickets. And Patel on his first.
Corky Posted 26 March 2012 Posted 26 March 2012 I hope there is a repeat of the 2001 series over there. Terrible umpiring and an England win
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 27 March 2012 Posted 27 March 2012 Prior needs to be banned from using the review, plum LBW and he calls for a review. Wether or not he is behind the stumps or in front of them his reviews are appalling.
Wycombe Fox Posted 27 March 2012 Posted 27 March 2012 A bit self-destruct in the shot selection department. Some lovely sweeping
Wycombe Fox Posted 27 March 2012 Posted 27 March 2012 Good job our bowlers are carrying the batsmen. Sri Lanka 14 for 3
Guest MattP Posted 27 March 2012 Posted 27 March 2012 Feel sorry for our bowlers at the minute, best in the world and being let down by the bats.
purpleronnie Posted 27 March 2012 Posted 27 March 2012 Bowlers doing what they can, must be frustrating for them and I imagine even harder to hold their tongue if the batsmen continue to underperform.
Corky Posted 27 March 2012 Posted 27 March 2012 You can't blame the bowlers, they are performing in different conditions in several continents (and they can even claim they are doing okay with the bat). Yet we have Flower and Gooch, two top batsmen in their day, coaching the side, so I can't understand why the batting line-up is struggling so much.
